Sunday offers a couple of four o’clock encounters, with City facing a trip to newly promoted Cardiff, alongside a lip-smacking encounter between Europa League rivals, Tottenham and Swansea at the Lane.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be looking to build on the fine 4-0 win over Newcastle on Monday to inflict a second defeat on new boys Cardiff. Malky MacKay’s outfit failed to make an impression on the West Ham defence on the opening day but may fancy their chances against a City side without the services of skipper Vincent Kompany.

In North London, Swansea will arrive having suffered a 4-1 home defeat to champions United but boosted by their midweek Europa League victory which saw them put five past their Romanian opponents. They’ll meet a Spurs side also buoyed by five goals in Europe and looking to add to their three points gained at Palace last weekend, a victory that came courtesy of Roberto Soldado’s cooly taken spot-kick. All eyes will be on the Spaniard today as he sports the Fantasy armband for many.

The team news is in and as is follows:

Manuel Pellegrini makes just one change to the team that swept aside Newcastle on Monday evening. The City boss brings in Javi Garcia for the injured Vincent Kompany at the back and keeps faith in Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero up top, with Alvaro Negredo warming the bench once again. Matija Nastasic is fit enough for the subs bench as he steps up his recovery from an ankle injury.

The Bluebirds also make just a single alteration to last week’s team. Andrew Taylor returns at left-back after serving a one-match suspension, with Declan Jon dropping out. Fraizer Campbell leads the line again, though new boy Andreas Cornelius makes the bench after an ankle complaint.

At White Hart Lane, Andre Villas-Boas rolls out a 4-3-3 and hands Etienne Capoue a first start for the hosts alongside Mousa Dembele and Paulinho in central midfield, as Gylfi Sigurdsson shifts to the bench. Andros Townsend replaces the injured Aaron Lennon on the right after impressing in the midweek Europa League win over Dinamo Tblisi.

Michael Laudrup makes a couple of alterations from the side that started against Man United last week. Fit-again Jonathan de Guzman and Pablo Hernandez replace Leon Britton and Nathan Dyer, with the latter remaining sidelined with a hamstring complaint. Michu leads the line again with Jonjo Shelvey ion “the hole”, meaning Wilfried Bony warms the bench once more for the Swans.

Our Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and available throughout today’s games for those in search of some real-time chatter as events unfold.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What do people think of Townsend? Looked good against that pub team they played midweek.

How did he perform today against Swansea?

Thoughts on this? I have 2 FTs.

    Hazard / Lukaku --> Silva / Giroud

Are these the best 2 players to buy?

      Both forward moves anyway.
I would get Luk and Haz out.
Only thing would be if Arsenal sign a striker.
I would maybe avoid Giroud myself.
But maybe worth the punt on this form.

If Garcia spent that much time in the Cardiff box maybe thats why they conceded 3, Pellegrini should look at this.

But what a tool, playing mid at CB away from home with Nastasic and Kolarov on the bench - I look fwd to more of these decisions at the Etihad 🙂

Paulinho's Threat rating is almost double that of the next highest spurs players, which was Dembele.

Spurs are floundering. Those two should be running the show but should not be doing all the work in attack too.

Every game is different mate, thay had the freedom and opportunities to get fwd today because they were at home, 3 man midfield and a lone striker that needed to be supported.

I thought they dovetailed very well with Capoue doing a job in there too...
          Floundering Spurs are not.

Two 1-0 wins for Liverpool and Spurs shows why they'll both finish above Arsenal.
          Arsenal cant do 1-0!

No they should actually contribute to attack considering they had Capoue to protect the back line. I think the wing play is where Spurs were compromised - Chadli is OK, he didn't seem to do anything overly useful and Townsend whilst a good player keeps on thinking he's Bale and cuts in and goes for the shot instead of a pull back or a cross.

Thats what I am saying, in a 4-3-3 the wingers and strikers should be registering big on the threat scales, which they just werent. I'd say look at the members stats, but you need to cough up first.

I just dont understand why the love for Soldado. To buy into a striker in fpl you have to believe that they will be the main outlet for an attacking team. I just cant believe that yet with Spurs.

Defoe's average position is miles further forward, he knows what to do.

Also have you ever noticed how Lennon doesnt look before crossing? Everytime he crosses he aims for the penalty spot, its curious.

he's a finisher and he plays as the lone striker.

That Spurs havent figured how to play to his strengths yet is normal - Ferguson said the same of RVP after 6 games last season that United were still figuring how best to play with him in the team.

Spurs create a lot of chances and Soldado has always scored goals - it will work 🙂

But he's scored twice so I think now IS the time to own him...

But the other options are Giroud, Benteke and Sturridge, which are good options making it a tough call but I'm going with Soldado.

Seen enough of him in Spain and CL games to have LOTS of faith in him.

Struggling to work out what lessons to learn from this.

City were poor, and lost, so justified my decision not to bring any of their players in.
But Dzeko and Silva still collected attack points, and they are both owned by many of my rivals.

Soldado was largely quiet, but Spurs won another penalty and he scored (this won't happen every week). Definitely not worth £9.5m, but many of my rivals own him.

This is irritating. Nothing is ever black-and-white.

I think its clear you can expect points from the City attack. Just back any one attacker and you can't go wrong.

        I'd suggest the opposite.

We can expect points from the City attack, but I expect them to be so diluted between their players as to make no-one a viable asset for our fpl teams.

well, I think I'll back Silva in the long-term. Consistent points (especially because it looks like owning both Hazard and Coutinho is going to prove frustrating).

I got Lambert this week and I'm pretty sure he'll do better/play more than Dzeko. Plus I don't want the additional pain of fretting over whether he'll play or not.
