Cardiff upset the odds and battle back to grab the points at Cityโ€™s expense in their first home match in the Premier League. Andre Villas-Boas shifts to 4-3-3 for the visit of Swansea, while Michael Laudrup tinkers with his forward options once again:

The Game Changer

An emphatic 4-0 win at home to Newcastle on Monday evening saw Fantasy managers loading up on Cityโ€™s attacking assets ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Plenty anticipated a walkover in light of the Magpies mauling โ€“ almost 65,000 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) snapped up Sergio Aguero while over 76,000 opted for Edin Dzeko ahead of this afternoonโ€™s showdown in Wales.

Compared to the visitorsโ€™ front two, Fraizer Campbell was no more than an afterthought but the former United frontman showed his top-flight credentials by bagging a brace and assist to send Pellegriniโ€™s side back to Manchester with their tails between their legs. Andreasโ€™ Corneliusโ€™ return to fitness saw the big Dane warm the bench and although heโ€™ll be pushing for a start, itโ€™s Campbell who remains in the driving seat for the lone striker role, with his cut-price appeal (5.5 in FPL) bound to get the bandwagon rolling over the next few days.

The Underused

A shoulder injury whilst on international duty over the summer kept Aron Gunnarsson far from Fantasy radars as the season approached.

Those looking for a route into Malky Mackayโ€™s midfield had mainly focussed on Kim Bo-Kyung, after the Korean notched three times over the summer but, having recovered in time for the Bluebirdsโ€™ final pre-season friendly, Gunnarsson looks a vital component of the Cardiff central midfield three.

Sitting alongside Kim and new boy Gary Medel, the Icelandic international opened his account for the season to serve Fantasy managers a reminder of the attacking threat which produced eight goals and six assists in the Championship last time out. Craig Bellamy, Kim and set-piece taker Peter Whittingham have proven far more popular picks but with a mere 0.3% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the 5.0 priced Gunnarsson could be another differential contender worthy of our consideration.

The Selection Poser

While the starting XIs at the Cardiff City Stadium were pretty much as anticipated, Manuel Pellegriniโ€™s decision to replace Edin Dzeko with Alvaro Negredo midway through the second-half will have the Bosnianโ€™s owners on edge ahead of the weekend home clash against Hull. Dzekoโ€™s superb opener maintained his recent form but it was perhaps telling that Sergio Aguero was retained for the full 90 minutes against the Bluebirds; Negredoโ€™s late goal will also give his manager food for thought as City look to recover from todayโ€™s unexpected stumble.

Andre Villas-Boas and Michael Laudrup gave Fantasy managers plenty to mull over at the Lane. The Spurs boss shifted to a 4-3-3 formation and demoted Gylfi Sigurdsson to the subs bench after just one game, with Etienne Capoue joining Mousa Dembele and Paulinho in the centre of the park. Villas-Boasโ€™ spending over the next few days will likely hint at his preferred formation over the season ahead but for Sigurdsson, the signs are already looking ominous. While Andros Townsend staked a claim for inclusion with another strong display on the right, he, too, will be bracing himself for increased competition over the next few days, with two or three new faces anticipated.

Swanseaโ€™s Europa League duties continue to affect Laudrupโ€™s selection policy up top. Wilfried Bony was once again named on the bench, with Michu preferred as the lone striker and Jonjo Shelvey tucking in behind โ€“ the Ivorian could be set for a Fantasy exodus if this continues for much longer.

    To heck with wasting big money on strikers (said the RVP owner), i have brought Campbell in. His fixtures for the next 5-6 weeks dont look too bad and might be a cheeky wee punt. You can keep your 1 sturridge/soldado one goal wonders at twice the price...;)

    Mign-4.0
    Toure-Kosc-Murner-Clyne-Chester

      Morrison doesn't look like he'll be playing much, so you'll be with 10 men + 1 point.

      If you think your replacement for him can get more than 5 points, the hit is worth it. Otherwise, no.

    Angela - could be out for good and dropping
    Hazard - blank GW
    Jonny Williams - 5th mid but only appearing from the bench

    0.5 in the bank. Any strikers worth it for less than 6.0? Considering Chamakh but would need to think about getting rid of Williams as would mean having double Palace.

    Im currently RVPless.

    GW3 Blanks i need to get rid of: Haz & Iva

    Dunno if i should take each GW as it comes or plan ahead to get RVP in, or just save FT.

    Main 3 options atm seem like:

    A) Save

    B) Haz -> Whittingham/Brady (GW3)
    Dzeko -> RVP (GW4)

    C) Haz -> Silva (GW3)

    THE WHOLE MAN CITY WAS POOR NOT JUST DZEKO!

    was any city player today NOT poor?

    name me one as i watched the match. maybe aguero was a bit more lively but he never passed the ball and kept losing it

    it was a whole team performance that was poor not just dzeko. there is every chance that dzeko might be benched for next week but i wont be surprised to see kun sit out as is not good for a player's confidence to be benched after a scoring match

      I don't think Dzeko was poor, i thought City played ok the goals they gave away were very sloppy, meaning there defense was poor, the rest were fine. I can't see Kun being benched, Negredo and Dzeko are too similar so i doubt they'll play together. With Hull having 10 men behind the ball Aguero is needed. I see Negredo and Aguero starting personally.

      Praying Dzeko starts as I've just put him in.....might backfire, but he can score from the bench pretty well.

      Thanks lads, would have been more safe to captain if he had scored, but hopefully, start in both games so far means he's number one in the oecking order.

      Soldado, treading VERY thin ice. He's been lucky with his pens so far. I'm getting rid soon. Despite their signings, their seems to be no flair player in the squad to make anything happen.

        The counter-argument is that as they gel, they will only get better.
        I agree that goals from penalties are not exactly inspiring confidence, but I really like having strikers that have pens to fall back on...

    Mignolet Boruc
    Terry Toure Collins M.Turner Chester
    Hazard Walcott Silva Snodgrass Kim
    Soldado Sturridge Bony

    Which moves should I do? Should I get rid of both Terry and Hazard?

    I am thinking of maybe getting Kun is as well, but that would be for an 8 point hit.

    Cheers.
