Cardiff upset the odds and battle back to grab the points at City’s expense in their first home match in the Premier League. Andre Villas-Boas shifts to 4-3-3 for the visit of Swansea, while Michael Laudrup tinkers with his forward options once again:

The Game Changer

An emphatic 4-0 win at home to Newcastle on Monday evening saw Fantasy managers loading up on City’s attacking assets ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Plenty anticipated a walkover in light of the Magpies mauling – almost 65,000 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) snapped up Sergio Aguero while over 76,000 opted for Edin Dzeko ahead of this afternoon’s showdown in Wales.

Compared to the visitors’ front two, Fraizer Campbell was no more than an afterthought but the former United frontman showed his top-flight credentials by bagging a brace and assist to send Pellegrini’s side back to Manchester with their tails between their legs. Andreas’ Cornelius’ return to fitness saw the big Dane warm the bench and although he’ll be pushing for a start, it’s Campbell who remains in the driving seat for the lone striker role, with his cut-price appeal (5.5 in FPL) bound to get the bandwagon rolling over the next few days.

The Underused

A shoulder injury whilst on international duty over the summer kept Aron Gunnarsson far from Fantasy radars as the season approached.

Those looking for a route into Malky Mackay’s midfield had mainly focussed on Kim Bo-Kyung, after the Korean notched three times over the summer but, having recovered in time for the Bluebirds’ final pre-season friendly, Gunnarsson looks a vital component of the Cardiff central midfield three.

Sitting alongside Kim and new boy Gary Medel, the Icelandic international opened his account for the season to serve Fantasy managers a reminder of the attacking threat which produced eight goals and six assists in the Championship last time out. Craig Bellamy, Kim and set-piece taker Peter Whittingham have proven far more popular picks but with a mere 0.3% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the 5.0 priced Gunnarsson could be another differential contender worthy of our consideration.

The Selection Poser

While the starting XIs at the Cardiff City Stadium were pretty much as anticipated, Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to replace Edin Dzeko with Alvaro Negredo midway through the second-half will have the Bosnian’s owners on edge ahead of the weekend home clash against Hull. Dzeko’s superb opener maintained his recent form but it was perhaps telling that Sergio Aguero was retained for the full 90 minutes against the Bluebirds; Negredo’s late goal will also give his manager food for thought as City look to recover from today’s unexpected stumble.

Andre Villas-Boas and Michael Laudrup gave Fantasy managers plenty to mull over at the Lane. The Spurs boss shifted to a 4-3-3 formation and demoted Gylfi Sigurdsson to the subs bench after just one game, with Etienne Capoue joining Mousa Dembele and Paulinho in the centre of the park. Villas-Boas’ spending over the next few days will likely hint at his preferred formation over the season ahead but for Sigurdsson, the signs are already looking ominous. While Andros Townsend staked a claim for inclusion with another strong display on the right, he, too, will be bracing himself for increased competition over the next few days, with two or three new faces anticipated.

Swansea’s Europa League duties continue to affect Laudrup’s selection policy up top. Wilfried Bony was once again named on the bench, with Michu preferred as the lone striker and Jonjo Shelvey tucking in behind – the Ivorian could be set for a Fantasy exodus if this continues for much longer.

Fixtures a bit so-so but I don't really see any other midfielders I particularly love either. Need someone to get in for Hazard to field a half decent XI.

I hope Foster is out next week because if he's fit I'm sure I'll pick the wrong keeper for the third time in a row.

      Several possibilities:

      1. V early (I.e now) if you cocked up your draft
      2. After the transfer window closes, when we'll know about all major signings and have a good feel GW the season is shaping up.
      3. Following a DGW. Depending on whether there is a blank, could be immediately before or after the DGW - the goal s the use the WC to lad up on DGW players and score big!

Late DGW, preferably 32-35. Fill up team with high scorers from those teams without having to plan ahead and bring in players ahead of time. For best results get two consecutive DGW allowing bench full of DGW players for second.

Late season DGW if you can save it til then

Otherwise if you have too many injury troubles and poor form issues to put out 11 even with a hit or two then use it early. Best to save it though

Lots of people like WCing in the first international break though

When you cant see things improving in the forseeable future....many players injured, suspended or transfered out at the same time. You can take a hit some weeks by doing more than one transfer at a cost of -4 points for each extra transfer so unless its squeeky bum time, save your w/c.

Hazard is currently 2nd most picked player in FPL. 1/3 of FPL own him and starting tomorrow they will start to offload him as he has a blank next weekend. Before his price decrease, 60.000 player need to drop him hence I think we still have at least 1 more day to consider our options. I already have Walcott, Coutinho and Mirallas so I will skip them to research. Here is my list:

Silva: His price is very kind with 9.1m. His ICT rate is far superior then all other midfielder. Unlike, Navas, Silva cross - like his assist to Negredo today - but also dribble into center. 10 penalty area touch, 5 shot in box shows how he is close to score. The next 6 fixtures is not the strongest one but still not bad at all except United game.

Cazorla: Following his Ecuador trip, he was present against Fulham in the hole role. Even though he created chance,he is not looking for score to much. Arsenal has a very strong fixture starting Tottenham at home - traditionally a goal bonanza game. The ones who believes coverage may be cool for him. His price - 9.9m - is the expensive one between other options.

Michu: Last year surprise haven't open the account yet for this year against United and Tottenham. He has not involved for scoring in this two games, still one think he is always good is his shoot accuracy. He couldn't scored against DeGea and Lloris but if Foster won't be available, there is a good chance for him to find the WBA's nets for his first for this year. Still, Swansea will play against Liverpool and Arsenal following 3 weeks.

Chadli: Actually he wasn't on my shortlist but I decided to add him following some data mining. First of all his 7.5m price is a budget friendly. Secondly Tottenham fixture is very strong after Emirates. Chadli's 21 mins per chance created and 31 minutes per shots are quite impressive even though he did not convert any FPL point yet in 2 GW. Worth to keep an eye to him because his rates are better then Mirallas so far.

Following this research I think I will go for Silva. What is your opinion, whom you will pick for hazard?

      Otherwise your team will be:

      Migs
      Toure / Coleman / Chester / Ward
      Coutinho / Mirallas / Silva / Williams
      Dzeko / Soldado

Migs plays against United = 2 points.
You're playing two newly promoted defenders, including Chester away to City.
I don't know who Williams is or if he even plays.
      You're playing a 4-4-2.

On the left, but he drifts everywhere.

He was pretty involved, but typically rubbish with his finishes and untypically poor with his final balls.

He's way overpriced but with these fixtures he's an alright purchase I would say.

Same here. Didn't own him all last season and I can't justify paying 14m for him. Plus he's the default captain choice, for me I'd rather think about who i captain rather than take the easy route.

Was he taken off as a precaution or was it tactical in your opinion? Because I only saw the footage of him on the bench bleeding and nothing else.

    Thanks 🙂

Surely stick this week and then get rid - he got the goal and Pellegrini was mixing it up a bit later on. Dzeko will surely play some part and I would not move him on yet.
