Cardiff upset the odds and battle back to grab the points at Cityโ€™s expense in their first home match in the Premier League. Andre Villas-Boas shifts to 4-3-3 for the visit of Swansea, while Michael Laudrup tinkers with his forward options once again:

The Game Changer

An emphatic 4-0 win at home to Newcastle on Monday evening saw Fantasy managers loading up on Cityโ€™s attacking assets ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Plenty anticipated a walkover in light of the Magpies mauling โ€“ almost 65,000 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) snapped up Sergio Aguero while over 76,000 opted for Edin Dzeko ahead of this afternoonโ€™s showdown in Wales.

Compared to the visitorsโ€™ front two, Fraizer Campbell was no more than an afterthought but the former United frontman showed his top-flight credentials by bagging a brace and assist to send Pellegriniโ€™s side back to Manchester with their tails between their legs. Andreasโ€™ Corneliusโ€™ return to fitness saw the big Dane warm the bench and although heโ€™ll be pushing for a start, itโ€™s Campbell who remains in the driving seat for the lone striker role, with his cut-price appeal (5.5 in FPL) bound to get the bandwagon rolling over the next few days.

The Underused

A shoulder injury whilst on international duty over the summer kept Aron Gunnarsson far from Fantasy radars as the season approached.

Those looking for a route into Malky Mackayโ€™s midfield had mainly focussed on Kim Bo-Kyung, after the Korean notched three times over the summer but, having recovered in time for the Bluebirdsโ€™ final pre-season friendly, Gunnarsson looks a vital component of the Cardiff central midfield three.

Sitting alongside Kim and new boy Gary Medel, the Icelandic international opened his account for the season to serve Fantasy managers a reminder of the attacking threat which produced eight goals and six assists in the Championship last time out. Craig Bellamy, Kim and set-piece taker Peter Whittingham have proven far more popular picks but with a mere 0.3% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the 5.0 priced Gunnarsson could be another differential contender worthy of our consideration.

The Selection Poser

While the starting XIs at the Cardiff City Stadium were pretty much as anticipated, Manuel Pellegriniโ€™s decision to replace Edin Dzeko with Alvaro Negredo midway through the second-half will have the Bosnianโ€™s owners on edge ahead of the weekend home clash against Hull. Dzekoโ€™s superb opener maintained his recent form but it was perhaps telling that Sergio Aguero was retained for the full 90 minutes against the Bluebirds; Negredoโ€™s late goal will also give his manager food for thought as City look to recover from todayโ€™s unexpected stumble.

Andre Villas-Boas and Michael Laudrup gave Fantasy managers plenty to mull over at the Lane. The Spurs boss shifted to a 4-3-3 formation and demoted Gylfi Sigurdsson to the subs bench after just one game, with Etienne Capoue joining Mousa Dembele and Paulinho in the centre of the park. Villas-Boasโ€™ spending over the next few days will likely hint at his preferred formation over the season ahead but for Sigurdsson, the signs are already looking ominous. While Andros Townsend staked a claim for inclusion with another strong display on the right, he, too, will be bracing himself for increased competition over the next few days, with two or three new faces anticipated.

Swanseaโ€™s Europa League duties continue to affect Laudrupโ€™s selection policy up top. Wilfried Bony was once again named on the bench, with Michu preferred as the lone striker and Jonjo Shelvey tucking in behind โ€“ the Ivorian could be set for a Fantasy exodus if this continues for much longer.

DZ seems a good idea, esp when drunk.

I'm pretty hacked off that Darren Bent has popped up already, I was hoping he'd stay under radar until match fit so he'd be a good differential.

The first goal Cardiff scored should have been Kim's assist: he dribbled past about 4 City defenders to provide a delicious cross for Frazier Campbell, whose point-blank shot was blocked by Hart and rebounded in by Gunnarsson.

    A. Sturridge
    B. Benteke
    C. Soldado

Currently I think A and B. Sturridge scored his two goals in open play, while Soldado had to rely on pens. Benteke scores in open play and is on pens.

I think I may angle for all 3, but at a push, I would also say A & B. I think it comes down to Spurs' extra Europa fixtures potentially disrupting them come the weekend. So little in it between the three (though Benteke I think is the one who stays regardless).

Tough one. I'm in a similar predicament in that I'm not sure whether to get him or Giroud in for Lukaku. When he started again and scored today my mind was made up but Negrado was afforded a decent amount of time and looked good. I would have thought that it must be about time for the manager to start him next week. Then if he really impresses where will Dzecko find himself in the pecking order...

    Rate in order of urgency

    A. P45 for JRod
    B. P45 for Kim
    C. P45 for Hazard
    D. Put on sick pay for Foster
    E. Do nothing. Two free transfer next week could be invalueable

          Hahaha nice one.

I'd go A, depending on the rest of your team and money in the bank. Norwich usually stubborn at home and not sure how Ozzie's arrival affects JRod. If there's no worthwhile upgrade you can afford, then C.

Wouldn't be confident of returns for either A or B this week but think the extra free transfer could be more valuable, unless you have money in the bank for a substantial upgrade to J Rod.

I am scared that If Dzeko doesn't play, and one chelsea person on the bench, I'll have to play an extra defender in a bad fixture (toure or chester) If I take a hit and get rid of both, I may not even have to use Kim, let alone one of toure.Chester. It would, of course, cost 4 points.

Gotta wait to see what kind of form Haz and Lamps are in, though. Also gotta decide how much I think Lamps will legitimately play.

Also.........I want Coleman. Really badly. I think he might be a 5 mil OOP every week midfielder. You sitll not interested?

Other htan that ,good fantasy day! Cap'n soldado and Dzeko come though, even if City imploded defensively.

I think Toure is still playable even though he might not get a CS (the mistake I did this week). Pool defence is actually looking pretty decent with Mig and Toure settling down well.

Definitely don't take a hit, your team is much better than you make it out to be. You just have to trust Dzeko to deliver the goods whether he starts or not (will definitely feature for 20 mins atleast but likely to start)

If you can get Silva by upgrading Haz/Lamps, I would do it depending on what you make of tomorrow's game.

Coleman's 5.2 mil already (should rise more this week) and looks like his tougher fixtures are coming up. I'm still not convinced he's worth it / playable every week but got to admit I've been wrong so far. Cardiff away and Chelsea at home - you reckon CS in one of the games? if so, a hit might be worth it.

Reasonable for me too considering I've got 2 CS on the bench. Thinking Ivano > Collins and gives me some cash in the bank to play around with in the international break. Worried about Snoddy and might upgrade him to Michu in gw4

        Thoughts?

With John (CAR) and Williams (CPL) unlikely to start, Hazard and Benteke on a blank, and Negredo looks to replace Dzeko any time soon. Which transfer would you make?

    A. Benteke to Sturridge/Giroud
    B. Hazard to Santi/Silva/Michu/Nolan
    C. Williams to Whittingham (CAR)/Jarvis

I have Chester playing against City on the bench to cover one of John, Williams, or Dzeko.

I'm leaning to transfer Hazard out so I'll have 2 players covering for 3 prone to be benched players.

Pellegrini came out after the match and said he was pissed off set pieces cost them the game so maybe, just maybe, he'll be looking to keep the 6'4" Centre Forward on the pitch a bit more often until Kompany is back...
