Cardiff upset the odds and battle back to grab the points at Cityโ€™s expense in their first home match in the Premier League. Andre Villas-Boas shifts to 4-3-3 for the visit of Swansea, while Michael Laudrup tinkers with his forward options once again:

The Game Changer

An emphatic 4-0 win at home to Newcastle on Monday evening saw Fantasy managers loading up on Cityโ€™s attacking assets ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Plenty anticipated a walkover in light of the Magpies mauling โ€“ almost 65,000 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) snapped up Sergio Aguero while over 76,000 opted for Edin Dzeko ahead of this afternoonโ€™s showdown in Wales.

Compared to the visitorsโ€™ front two, Fraizer Campbell was no more than an afterthought but the former United frontman showed his top-flight credentials by bagging a brace and assist to send Pellegriniโ€™s side back to Manchester with their tails between their legs. Andreasโ€™ Corneliusโ€™ return to fitness saw the big Dane warm the bench and although heโ€™ll be pushing for a start, itโ€™s Campbell who remains in the driving seat for the lone striker role, with his cut-price appeal (5.5 in FPL) bound to get the bandwagon rolling over the next few days.

The Underused

A shoulder injury whilst on international duty over the summer kept Aron Gunnarsson far from Fantasy radars as the season approached.

Those looking for a route into Malky Mackayโ€™s midfield had mainly focussed on Kim Bo-Kyung, after the Korean notched three times over the summer but, having recovered in time for the Bluebirdsโ€™ final pre-season friendly, Gunnarsson looks a vital component of the Cardiff central midfield three.

Sitting alongside Kim and new boy Gary Medel, the Icelandic international opened his account for the season to serve Fantasy managers a reminder of the attacking threat which produced eight goals and six assists in the Championship last time out. Craig Bellamy, Kim and set-piece taker Peter Whittingham have proven far more popular picks but with a mere 0.3% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the 5.0 priced Gunnarsson could be another differential contender worthy of our consideration.

The Selection Poser

While the starting XIs at the Cardiff City Stadium were pretty much as anticipated, Manuel Pellegriniโ€™s decision to replace Edin Dzeko with Alvaro Negredo midway through the second-half will have the Bosnianโ€™s owners on edge ahead of the weekend home clash against Hull. Dzekoโ€™s superb opener maintained his recent form but it was perhaps telling that Sergio Aguero was retained for the full 90 minutes against the Bluebirds; Negredoโ€™s late goal will also give his manager food for thought as City look to recover from todayโ€™s unexpected stumble.

Andre Villas-Boas and Michael Laudrup gave Fantasy managers plenty to mull over at the Lane. The Spurs boss shifted to a 4-3-3 formation and demoted Gylfi Sigurdsson to the subs bench after just one game, with Etienne Capoue joining Mousa Dembele and Paulinho in the centre of the park. Villas-Boasโ€™ spending over the next few days will likely hint at his preferred formation over the season ahead but for Sigurdsson, the signs are already looking ominous. While Andros Townsend staked a claim for inclusion with another strong display on the right, he, too, will be bracing himself for increased competition over the next few days, with two or three new faces anticipated.

Swanseaโ€™s Europa League duties continue to affect Laudrupโ€™s selection policy up top. Wilfried Bony was once again named on the bench, with Michu preferred as the lone striker and Jonjo Shelvey tucking in behind โ€“ the Ivorian could be set for a Fantasy exodus if this continues for much longer.

    hey guys
    i got anelka, hazard, ivanavic.

which one to get rid of first or take a hit and move 2?

i have 2 mil in the bank so can go up to 7.4 for striker?

otherwise move ivan for a cheapy and upgrade to giroud or sturridge?

    cheers

Take a hit and ditch Anelka and the one Chelsea player you dont wont long term

I would transfer Ivan for a 4 or 4.5 and upgrade to Giroud

I have a few rats in my ranks. Who would you slot into this woeful defence?
    Coleman Rat Turner Clyne Brayford

My plan was Rat to Zabaleta this week with Turner/Brayford to Toure in a couple of weeks time. Any others I should consider? Thanks...

One thing about my defence is it's been perfect so far. Rat must go to another West Ham defender.
Regardless of price, who do you really think will get clean sheets, go to the season ticker.
If you don't have Toure then that is strange, he and Coleman are the best value in FPL.
Yanga Mbiwa just got me a nice 6 too.
      Collins is cleaning up.

I was set to go Collins pre-season until talk that he would be second choice. Bad last minute decision. I like Zab for potential attacking returns in the next few + clean sheets. Do you think Collins is nailed? I couldn't stand another West Ham selection failure.

Collins is the most nailed on defender as he is their leader, their voice. He is mental, just what they have craved. Go for simple cheap defenders who get points. Zab can be good, but I will always recommend Lescott, but that's just my style.

Fiso has been way off for falling prices. Check back after the price changes, you'll see than only ~5 of them will actually fall. TotalFPL has been way more accurate.
I don't think that we can conclude that there will be more fallers than risers overall.

Elnino....sorry for the delay, here is my response.

Thanks for saying my team is ok. Maybe a hit is a little desperate. I'm just a bit worried about what happens without Dzeko.

Sorry about the bad sub choices. You gotta admit, you were dbeing a little risky.

I gotta respectfully disagree about Toure. I know they got two cleanies, but I just think United are dangerous.

I can easily do either Lamps or Hazard to Silva, and gonna captain him, too probably. Maybe I'll just have to risk one more week with Dzeko. If prices don't change too much, and if I do Hazard>Silva and keep Lampard, I can do Dzeko>Benteke without adjusting funds.

Collins is a great signing, he is another one I really wish I had. (you talked me out of him day before opening day.....not bitter or anything, since you also talked me INTO lamps!)

I understand your Snoddy concerns. Really thoughts Norwich would be good moving forward. Have you considered Adam? On set pieces with a bunch on monsters, cheap, and you have to think he could even get penos from Walters.

That plan looks good, Silva next week and Benteke the following. Really there are folks considering Dzeko this week, so don't panic too much about him. The fixture looks good for returns and City will be vying for a comeback.

Reg captaincy, I'm looking at Silva or Feoooo. What do you make of the North London Derby? Loads of goals again?

I had Collins all along too instead of Murner and going into Gw1 with an injury doubt I felt was risky. One of those risk/reward options that went wrong.

I thought you had Rat and I was feeling glad I talked you out of him. Sorry if you had Collins instead...

I don't fancy any Stoke player tbh but also really fancy Michu, he's looking pretty sharp again ala last season. Good fixtures from gw4 too

I hate to say this but I've made a plan to get RVP in after more than a year. Can't let club bias get in my way once again.

I see why you're considering it, and I would be lying if I wasnt doing the same.

I HONESTLY think that a Soldado/Tekkers/Sturridge frontline will outscore any RVP frontline this year.

I do not want two 5.0 midfielders.

I would like at least one every week defender.

3 reason why I am hoping I dont have to get RVP.

But I do have a plan for it if I do. And it is one ugly team/

1 is invalid for me as I would then have RVP/Tekkers and Soldado (or Studge)

2 fair point but with no mids in 5-8 range really stepping up, I'm liking the looks of Barkley/JWP (well aware that big mids may hit form but I'd have Silva/Walc/Lamps which is pretty flexible to moves)

3 Toure is my every week defender

              REALLY looking at it now.

RVP/Tekkers/Studge does kinda sound like the sex. This I cannot deny. But haivng to play Kim or JWP every week? I don't know.

we're two weeks in: its too early to just shrug off the whole 5-8 midfield bracket altogether. Can't be assured JWP will start, either.

Toure/Migs every week? That's scary. Also, Liverpool may well sign a new center back. I know you are bitter on missing out on Toure this week, but he just isn't an every weeker, not yet. And when Coates returns, it could be even tougher.

CPL mci WBA sun SOT STO

Captaincy option in almost every game as well

Good point about the mids though. Don't think Toure would come to Liv to be backup CB, else he'd have stayed back at City itself.

Yeah, I know. The fixtures are definitely scary. and midfielders have been so disappointing that is makes it feel like stealing money from them to bump up the forwards makes sense.

But I'm just not there quite yet. His price is just a little too high. JWP isn't so good that you'll want to play him or Kim all the time. It's an option, but I just don't know.

Who cares why Toure came? We know Liverpool are in the market, so clearly they aren't happy with the pairing. I just think Toure's fitness isn't where they like it, and they could easily give it to a new signing or Coates.

I am comforted on my plan. give Dzeko one last shot.

lol you and your nicknames! I never know who your talking about. Feoooo is Walcott, of course?

I don't know about the NLD being a goalfest. Our three man midfield looks tough to break down. It also allows for a high defensive line with a fraction of the risk. Arsenal has so much speed, though. I just don't know what to expect. Not impressed nearly enough to captain Walcott.

Same exact story with Murner/Collins. I do appreciate talking me out of Rat. As soon as I got talked out of Rat, I put in Coleman. Then Collins. then talked to you and got Murner. Freaking Noriwsh has been the fantasy stinker of the season, for you especially.

Michu, huh? I like him, but 9 million? I feel like I'm looking to go CHEAPER with my midfield, not pricier. Walcott and Silva will be my two 'nines,' but I'm not sure I can afford a third. Looking for someone in the 6-7 mil area. if I replace Lamps.

I am just as a whole not convinced by Swans offensively. I know they have had rotten fixtures, but I just don't see them scoring like last year. All of this relies on bony starting, of course. Why are you so high on him?

Same concerns regarding the NLD. Paulinho looks classy, you reckon he could be an FPL option playing so forward? Stats seems to love him. An alternative to Soldado perhaps?

Michu reminds me of Bale 2 seasons back. He rose to 8ish after a good season and people wrote him off, he scored 190 points. Again we wrote him off after he rising to 9.5 and he had a beast of a season. His goal threat is really tempting Newman, scored in Europe and consistently in pre-season. Would happily take another 180+ season for michu at that price.

I would not sign Paulinho personally, no. He created some decent chances today, yes, but he is exactly like coutinho to me: anyone playing behind a front 3 just isn't a super attractive option to me. I don't but Coutinho because all offense goes through Studge. Same applies for Soldado and Paulinho. Then again, Paulinho is only 7 million.

Than again I have Lampard, who could not be further back, so what do I know?

I understand Michu's skill, but you have to think Bony will be the main man once he begins starting. Michu got all of that as a lone striker, which he isn't, now. I just think 9 is too much. I don't think I'll be able to get three 9 million midfielders, and I like Walcott, Hazard, and Silva all more. I feel like I need to be looking for bargain midfielders, instead.

Hehe what's making you so skeptical of Lamps? He was the highest scoring mid in the DGW bud.

Michu is playing at his favorite position (in the hole) again. This is where he scored most of his goals. If anything, I think Bony will positively influence him. May be wrong. Anyways all this is for GW4....long way to go haha

I know Lamps scored well........I just think he gonna be rotated. I can't see him starting all the time. And also...........defensive midfielder. He just isn't forward much. although maybe when on pens and set pieces, you don't need to be.

I'll say this though; if he is nailed on, he will stay.

Didn't Michu score most of his goals from striker position? Maybe you're right. I guess besides Silva, Walcott, and hazard he is probably my next favorite in that price range. Maybe with fixtures he will become worth it.

although I have to say, in the two swans games I have watched, they have showed very little finishing edge, to me.

    Saints fans/knowledgeable scouts:

What about this Ward-Prowse character? Played every minute so far, nice assist this GW. Threats to his place lessened with Punchy's departure?

He looks a bargain atm. Set pieces too. Best of the 4.5's. Long term though he's gotta keep Ramirez out...

The threat comes form how we intergrate Osvaldo and to a lesser extent Rameriez, but he loks safe at the moment.

It will take a couple of weeks to see how that pans out but the thinking is that MoPo will use Ram as an impact sub and come on for Lallana in the hole with Jrod making way for Osvaldo as part of a 4-2-3-1.

I think MoPo likes playing young players (he did the same at Espanyol) and JWP is technically good and can play MoPos high tempo passing/pressing style. he's been given corners and a share of free kicks so MoPo must trust him.

Put it this way he's in my team.

When David Luiz comes back, is he expected to be nailed on? I believe there was a Mourninho quote from the preseason along the lines of he has to play always.

Is that just a perception due to Hazard's huge gw1 last year? He quickly went from unknown to must-have almost overnight.

There were more fallers. I could only take a guess from memory. Which would be the latter part of the season.
So maybe it's about the same allowing for people dropping non playing hopeful gambles early on.

I imagine it would settle down to nearer 16 up 24 down proportions, as a very rough guess.

Also, most of the fallers are players that should never feature in anyone's team, players that people were hoping would start, but have so far been relegated to the bench. *cough* Lukaku.
