Cardiff upset the odds and battle back to grab the points at Cityโ€™s expense in their first home match in the Premier League. Andre Villas-Boas shifts to 4-3-3 for the visit of Swansea, while Michael Laudrup tinkers with his forward options once again:

The Game Changer

An emphatic 4-0 win at home to Newcastle on Monday evening saw Fantasy managers loading up on Cityโ€™s attacking assets ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Plenty anticipated a walkover in light of the Magpies mauling โ€“ almost 65,000 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) snapped up Sergio Aguero while over 76,000 opted for Edin Dzeko ahead of this afternoonโ€™s showdown in Wales.

Compared to the visitorsโ€™ front two, Fraizer Campbell was no more than an afterthought but the former United frontman showed his top-flight credentials by bagging a brace and assist to send Pellegriniโ€™s side back to Manchester with their tails between their legs. Andreasโ€™ Corneliusโ€™ return to fitness saw the big Dane warm the bench and although heโ€™ll be pushing for a start, itโ€™s Campbell who remains in the driving seat for the lone striker role, with his cut-price appeal (5.5 in FPL) bound to get the bandwagon rolling over the next few days.

The Underused

A shoulder injury whilst on international duty over the summer kept Aron Gunnarsson far from Fantasy radars as the season approached.

Those looking for a route into Malky Mackayโ€™s midfield had mainly focussed on Kim Bo-Kyung, after the Korean notched three times over the summer but, having recovered in time for the Bluebirdsโ€™ final pre-season friendly, Gunnarsson looks a vital component of the Cardiff central midfield three.

Sitting alongside Kim and new boy Gary Medel, the Icelandic international opened his account for the season to serve Fantasy managers a reminder of the attacking threat which produced eight goals and six assists in the Championship last time out. Craig Bellamy, Kim and set-piece taker Peter Whittingham have proven far more popular picks but with a mere 0.3% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the 5.0 priced Gunnarsson could be another differential contender worthy of our consideration.

The Selection Poser

While the starting XIs at the Cardiff City Stadium were pretty much as anticipated, Manuel Pellegriniโ€™s decision to replace Edin Dzeko with Alvaro Negredo midway through the second-half will have the Bosnianโ€™s owners on edge ahead of the weekend home clash against Hull. Dzekoโ€™s superb opener maintained his recent form but it was perhaps telling that Sergio Aguero was retained for the full 90 minutes against the Bluebirds; Negredoโ€™s late goal will also give his manager food for thought as City look to recover from todayโ€™s unexpected stumble.

Andre Villas-Boas and Michael Laudrup gave Fantasy managers plenty to mull over at the Lane. The Spurs boss shifted to a 4-3-3 formation and demoted Gylfi Sigurdsson to the subs bench after just one game, with Etienne Capoue joining Mousa Dembele and Paulinho in the centre of the park. Villas-Boasโ€™ spending over the next few days will likely hint at his preferred formation over the season ahead but for Sigurdsson, the signs are already looking ominous. While Andros Townsend staked a claim for inclusion with another strong display on the right, he, too, will be bracing himself for increased competition over the next few days, with two or three new faces anticipated.

Swanseaโ€™s Europa League duties continue to affect Laudrupโ€™s selection policy up top. Wilfried Bony was once again named on the bench, with Michu preferred as the lone striker and Jonjo Shelvey tucking in behind โ€“ the Ivorian could be set for a Fantasy exodus if this continues for much longer.

why would anyone get rid of him?

he is predator inside box and will score goals

      he is explosive as well

      can't see your point?

after 2 pathetic spurs prefomances Soldado picked up points and you can only imaging how much he will score when spurs hit the form

BUT SOLDADO HAS SCORED 2 PENS BRO!!!

But, seriously, good move. I wouldn't want any Spurs mid or forward at this stage. Way too weak on the attacking front (not saying Soldado isn't a solid player, just Spurs have a while to go yet).

I'm an owner, and even though he is right up there with the leading points scorers I am tempted to get rid. I know he's a great finisher but I have watched both Spurs games so far and they look like they lack a bit of creativity. Still though, it's early days and playing away to a newly promoted side and against the swans are both tough games.

your man RVP went on a run of quite a few consecutive offside goals and penalties last season though.

2 games in, 2 goals, decent fixtures and proven quality in a team that will only get better (unfortunately)

Soldado owner here and definitely haven't been impressed by Spurs attack.

but what has impressed me is Soldado's off the ball runs and positioning. the final ball to him has just been lacking but he's the sort that will definitely take his chances. case in point, midweek Europa game. Put the ball at his feet and he will bury it.

      he will come good imo.

Spurs have played two games against teams that concentrated on defence rather than attack. Typically Spurs struggle against that setup. Entirely different story when they play against team that have a go and open up.

I never believe anyone is essential but realistically barring injury or a huge non City DGW pile up I can see myself keeping Silva all season. Quietly racking up good scores. 1 goal every 6 games in his City career so far and now he's in the hole I think that will further improve. Might even be a captaincy option next week if I dare...

If Liverpool continue to score low/not finish Coutinho's chances and he shows low goal threat I lose him for Michu.

Depends on the timeframe, if it's a 1 game punt definitely not, a few games maybe, season right up there.

Michu, Walcott, Mirallas have better goal threat I think. Can see Silva assists being immense though and he has decent and IMO improving goal threat in his new position.

all sounds logical- but do you not think choosing a season player is a little flawed? Id say it's unlikely you'll keep any player all year so their total is not hugely relevant- just what they get for you? Food for thought nonetheless, thanks

What I learnt last year was keep the good players through thick and thin and save your transfers for the streaky ones. I learnt this the hard way with two players very similar to Silva. Caz and Mata. I became convinced when I saw so many dead teams that were high up with good players like that despite having never even changed their team let alone their transfers.

Coutinho's improved from at inter, I could understand people being skeptical after his time there but he has been one if the best attacking midfielders in the Prem since he arrived. Might be a risk of too many assister assists though yes and I was hoping for at least a little goal threat. Remember he got 3 goals 7 assists in something like 923 minutes last season, he's shown his potential.

You're probably technically better than every manager who has ever won FPL for al I care.

However, it's a bit like winning a lottery-you need unbelievably ridiculous amounts of luck to win the whole thing.

As Eboue says, its the same kind of level of luck that makes people pick 6 random numbers and win millions of pounds because of it.

Aguero didn't really impress until towards the end and I thought Dzeko has done quite well lately plus shown a great work-rate. But it's a gamble really, Aguero is the first choice ST and Negredo seems to be deserving a start. The question I would ask myself is, why would Dzeko be benched?

I thought Coutinho was a little overpriced in the preseason, but he should still produce some. You shouldn't feel obligated to keep him, but I wouldn't say it's a huge priority to dump him.

Mirallas has good stats, but keeps getting taken off with 20 minutes to go. I'm worried.
