Manchester United have confirmed that Luis Nani is back in training today.
The Portuguese international is now in line to make a swift return to action after recovering from a gash in his leg following a reckless Jamie Carragher tackle during the defeat to Liverpool over a week ago. Nani is set to be a shock inclusion for the Red Devils against Marseille in the Champions League tomorrow evening and, more importantly in Fantasy terms, he is in the frame to make the Premier League home fixture with Bolton on Saturday.
That looked very unlikely at one point. After reports surfaced at the end of last week that Nani could be out for a month, 119,317 concerned Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Managers transferred the player out of their squads. They will likely be cursing this news of a rapid recovery for a player who has gathered 165 FPL points so far this season. Should he figure and come through tomorrow night’s fixture, Nani will be strongly backed to fetch returns against Bolton at Old Trafford.
In other Man United team news, Darren Fletcher has been struggling with a virus and is out of the Marseille game and it is unclear whether he will return to the fold for the Bolton clash. Michael Carrick has returned after missing the FA Cup encounter with Arsenal with a calf injury. Park Ji-Sung is undergoing fitness work in training but hasn’t made the squad, whilst Owen Hargreaves is continuing his training at Carrington, but not expected to feature any time soon.
Alex Ferguson’s midfield has been a problem area of late and the situation is not helped by the suspension of Paul Scholes. He picked up his tenth booking of the season against Arsenal at the weekend and will miss league games against Bolton and West Ham.
With injuries and match fitness remaining a factor, Ferguson may continue to deploy the Da Silva twins in unfamiliar advanced flanking roles. Priced at 4.4 on the FPL game, Fabio, in particular, has plenty of potential as a cheeky short-term option – the Brazilian has scored twice in recent weeks for United and looked very lively during their FA Cup victory over Arsenal on Saturday. However, Antonio Valencia is also in the squad for Tuesday’s European tie and he could see action against Bolton as a result.
Uncertainty in the United midfield continues then – Fantasy Managers will need to monitor and assess the situation going into the weekend gameweek 30 fixture, with the prospect of short-term differentials on offer.
