With the first international break almost upon us, Fantasy managers have one more set of fixtures to navigate before bracing ourselves for a two-week domestic hiatus. We’re backing City to bounce back from Sunday’s shock result at Cardiff, while a north London derby also catches our eye, with goals looking on the Emirates’ menu:

Artur Boruc gets the nod between the sticks again as Southampton make their way to Norwich. The Saints stopper has conceded just once in his two matches so far and with the Canaries failing to break down 10-man Hull at the KC Stadium last weekend, an away clean sheet could well be on the cards.

One of only three sides yet to concede a goal thus far, West Ham’s chances of further defensive returns are boosted by a home clash with Stoke tomorrow afternoon. James Collins offers the cheapest route into Sam Allardyce’s backline and up against a Potters side that notched 13 times on the road last term, he’ll be confident of extending that clean sheet streak.

Culpable for a couple of goals in City’s shock defeat at Cardiff last weekend, Pablo Zabaleta has the perfect chance to make amends. The right-back welcomes Hull to the Etihad in the Gameweek’s early kick-off and with a 10 point haul in his first home clash of the season, Zabaleta’s raids down the flank are likely to trouble the Tigers from start to finish.

With 19 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points over his two games thus far, Seamus Coleman has been quick out the blocks for Everton. The right-back has already racked up a goal and assist this term and his raiding runs down the flank offer the chance of further attacking returns should the Toffees fail to keep out Fraizer Campbell and co.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is our final defender as Newcastle prepare for the visit of Fulham. While the Magpies continue to falter up front, they welcome the Cottagers on the back of a home clean sheet against West Ham last time out and, priced kinder than any other defensive team-mate in FPL, the January signing looks a solid option for tomorrow’s St James’ Park showdown.

Subject of our Technical Area article earlier this week, Theo Walcott earns his place ahead of Sunday’s north London derby. As Arsenal prepare for the visit of Tottenham, it’s worth noting that the last five showdowns between the pair at the Emirates have harvested 30 goals – a high-scoring affair could well be on the cards, then, with the Gunners winger looking in the mood to open his account for the campaign.

Having signed off the previous season with a home hat-trick against Reading, Kevin Nolan was quick off the mark in Gameweek 1 as West Ham eased past Cardiff. The Hammers skipper is afforded another chance to notch in front of his own fans as Stoke roll up this weekend and with Andy Carroll remaining in the treatment room, Nolan is likely to carry the hosts goal threat against the Potters.

With a goal and assist in his first couple of matches, David Silva has already picked up the points under Manuel Pellegrini. Subject of a Members Monitor article earlier this week, the Spaniard has offered a far greater goal threat so far this term and with starts assured, has earned himself a huge Fantasy bandwagon this week ahead of a home clash with Hull.

With goals expected at both ends of the pitch at the Emirates, we can hardly overlook Roberto Soldado. The Spaniard has notched in both league appearances since arriving from Valencia – albeit from the spot – and his lethal eye for goal could come to the fore once again as Andre Villas-Boas’ side look to extend their 100% start to the season at the expense of their bitter rivals.

We’ve opted for Sergio Aguero as our City forward of choice this weekend. Edin Dzeko vindicated our decision last weekend by notching against Cardiff but with replacement Alvaro Negredo also grabbing a goal in the 3-2 defeat, Manuel Pellegrini may decide to freshen up his frontline. Having returned to full fitness, Aguero was handed the full 90 minutes against the Bluebirds and with a goal and pair of assists to his name, has played a part in more of his side’s six goals than any team-mate so far.

He may have drawn a blank against Chelsea on Monday evening but we’re backing Robin Van Persie to return to form in Sunday’s Anfield encounter. With question marks over Kolo Toure’s fitness, Liverpool may struggle to maintain their clean sheet run – if there’s one man Brendan Rodgers won’t want to face with a depleted defence, it’s United’s number one forward.

Joel Ward is a real cut-price option at the back as Palace prepare to welcome Sunderland to Selhurst Park. The visitors have hardly been prolific so far, registering a single goal over two matches, and coming in at just 4.0 in FPL, the Eagles defender offers a real budget-friendly option at the back this weekend.

We’re opting for Jason Puncheon as the winger prepares to make his home debut for Palace. Up against a Sunderland side with a single win in their last eight away matches, the on-loan wideman will be looking to return to the form that saw him rack up five goals and six assists for Southampton last time out.

Unlikely to make the bench once again, Rickie Lambert will be hoping to get amongst the goals again after a blank against Sunderland last weekend. The Southampton striker had eight efforts on goal against the Black Cats last Saturday and squares up to a Norwich side that have yet to keep a clean sheet – with spot-kicks and a share of set-pieces to fall back upon, there’d be no surprise to see him on the scoresheet in tomorrow’s Carrow Road encounter.

    WARNING: Long post.

Need some input on this if you'd be so kind, really torn about using my WC or not.

    Current team:

    Boruc, Foster
    Ivanovic, Coleman, Toure, Collins, M.Turner
    Walcott, Hazard, Coutinho, Mirallas, Williams
    Soldado, Dzeko, Lambert

    - I have Boruc/Foster, and want Mignolet/4.0. Sakho coming in now, which could easily mean Toure gets benched. Foster out for the long term and I'd be more happy to own Clyne as SOT cover.

    - I have Ivanovic and Hazard, which I'd both like to get rid of - at least for now. I want a 4.0 cheapie at the back (preferably Chester) and a 5.0 mid (preferably Whittingham) to open up funds for the strikers.

    - I have Williams, who is not a starter. I want Brady to rotate with Whittingham as my 4th mid. I know their rotation is far from optimal, but they are the stand-out 5.0 mids imo.

    - Mirallas is a concern. Seems to only get ~70 mins per game, I'd prefer to have a player who gets the full 90. Considering Nolan or Snodgrass as possible replacements.

    - I have Coutinho. I want Sturridge instead, but might keep because of LIV's upcoming fixtures. (Either him or Silva, what do you guys think?)

    - From my frontline, Soldado is the only one I would MIGHT consider keeping. Apart from him, I would get Sturridge and RVP. (Aguero this week, upgrade to RVP next week)

So, this is my potential WC team:

    Mignolet, (4.0)
    Coleman, Clyne, Collins, M.Turner, Chester
    Walcott, (Coutinho/Silva), (Mirallas/Nolan/Snodgrass), Whittingham, Brady
Aguero (becomes RVP next week), Sturridge, Soldado

Do I have enough here to defend a WC? Appreciate all forms of feedback!

        I do.

This might sound insane, but I'm considering Haz > Whits and Dzeko > Aguero.

The first one to free up funds, the second one to have a "secure" captaincy option this week. I would do Iva > Chester and Aguero > RVP next week in that case.

nope. your team isnt broken, just "could be better" with many being slight upgrades based on current form. one injury to a new player you get in with wildcard/ suspension/ something like coutinho getting a goal and sturridge blanks and you will regret

My team is similar. I was pondering over it but I got 64 GW1 and 67GW2, would have been more if I had played Chester and captained my original player (I would have got around 80 points). Its a strong team and I had the same concerns, exactly. Do Hazard to Silva NOW! I agree on the Coutinho issue. What I would say is get Oscar/Lamps in for Coutinho if you must. Pretty much everyone else has Toure. Sakho isn't going to slot right in, Toure has shown form, more so than Agger and wont be dropped instantly. We were all complaining about lack of depth for Liverpool, because of the Toure injury. Sakho is young and has many years ahead of him, this could be one of the last for Toure, a quality defender. I wanted Sturridge too, and already had Migs + 4.0M. That's the GK way to go, buy Liverpool wont get a CS v United and Boruc still looks a good pick for the upcoming weeks. Do the GK transfer when you have nothing else to do. RVP cant justify that price either way IMO.

Its been 2 weeks. But the moves I would advise if you must are:

      Hazard>Silva
      Mirallas>Nolan
      Coutinho>Lampard(later on)

      Over the next few weeks.

I have never seen a pre-subs team with that formation, and I doubt I ever will. It's a very negative set up, not really suited to fantasy football. But it's a natural result of two gameweeks which have featured both unlikely midfield scorers (with a few obvious exceptions) and lucky defenders scoring goals and bonus points. It'll change as the season progresses.

It's okay...I can understand the frustrations when things don't work as expected. I feel them too. The problem we have now is that we can't be as agile as we once were. We can't react as quickly to problems now we're a bigger site with processes behind everything.

I used to be able to fix things on the fly because I knew my own (horrible) code - these days fixing issues means involving Ed to tweak his code, uploading to test, checking on test then deploying the code to live. Everything has a process now with proper versioning on the code and it takes longer to address issues sometimes.

Also, every code change could possibly have knock-ons to performance and so we have to be mindful. This is why the international breaks are useful - it gives us periods to roll out changes when traffic is lower. Next week, for example, we're rolling out new cacheing code. You guys will be unlikely to realise or notice a huge difference but we'll see the difference behind the scenes in server performance.

In a nutshell, we're never sitting still. We are aware there are things to get fixed but we're always looking at them and moving towards getting them fixed, it's just these days it takes longer and there are other things behind the scenes involving ensuring the site runs efficiently, that sometimes take priority.

Thanks Mark. For the record, I wasn't saying we shouldn't highlight tech issues but I think there is a line here in regards to constructive criticism that some commenters could do with keeping in mind. Saying the whole thing is broken because a graphic is blurry?

All of the points you have made above just further outline the constant growing professionalism and popularity of this site. Add to that the accountability and transparency we enjoy here, what other sites can we get the founder coming in and explaining technical issues or actually contributing to and with the community?

Anyhow, thanks for the feedback and keep up the hard work. It's appreciated.

Even though I have RvP, Dzeko, Wally and Silva

...I have a strong urge to captain Soldado

Interesting that Boruc is in the Scout picks but RMT is telling me to bench Shaw and play B Turner 😕

    My Team
    Cech | Boruc
    Toure | Shaw | Collins | Coleman | Chester
    Coutinho | Silva | Walcott | Mirallas | R.Morrison
    Soldado| Benteke | Dzeko

    1 FT left, 0.4 banked.
I was planning to save the FT but Cech looks set to drop tonight and i need to avoid it or my plans for next week will be scuppered. Mainly looking to get in RVP/Roon as i think Dzeko's starter days might be numbered and united's fixtures from gw4 are too good to ignore.

    A. Cech -> Myhill (the replacement for Foster but i will probably play him only in Gw 5,8,12...)
Pros: a keeper that will actually play and covers Boruc when away to liverpool, manu, arsenal.
This will get me enough funds for RVP + 5.0 mid (assuming i take out coutinho)

    B. Cech -> Daniels
Pros: Yes he wont play but the extra 0.5m i save instead of getting Myhill allows me to do a straight swap of Dzeko to Rooney next week. will still be able to upgrade to RVP+downgrade Coutinho.

Is Zaba worth the 0.7 more than Lescott? Getting Lescott instead of Zaba will make it easier to get someone in for Dzeko next week

not imo. 9/10 he wont get any attacking points so unlikely to be a big captain. 'normally' he's a 6 point guy, maybe 8 with bps

Not unlikely for Lambert to make the bench I guess.

Not that it bothers me, just wanted to point it out
