Glen Johnson’s ankle injury may be worse than first feared. Eden Hazard skips training for Belgium with an Achilles complaint. Jozy Altidore is passed fit after a recent hamstring problem, Rafael could be set to return soon for United, while Luis Suarez may have to make do with a role on the flank this season for Liverpool.

Johnson Ankle Worry

Liverpool issued an official injury update on Glen Johnson yesterday after the right-back pulled out of England duties. The Reds defender was subbed off towards the end of Sunday’s win over United with an ankle problem and the club revealed:

“After being examined by the club’s medical staff at Melwood, Johnson is required to rest his ankle this week. A further review will then take place to check stability and decide on further management. Therefore, Liverpool have not put a timeframe on Johnson’s return to fitness at this stage.”

The Scout Says: A spell on the sidelines for Johnson would undoubtedly be a bitter blow for Brendan Rodgers. The full-back has been an integral part of the defence that has registered three back-to-back clean sheets so far and with a kind upcoming schedule on the horizon, was set for increased investment. Fantasy managers could be afforded a real bargain, though – Andre Wisdom comes in at just 4.4 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and looks the obvious candidate to benefit if Johnson is indeed ruled out for any length of time. Martin Kelly, also at 4.4, is the other option available to Rodgers.

Hazard Concern for Belgium

Reports in The Mail suggest Eden Hazard has been forced out of training with Belgium due to an Achilles problem. The Chelsea winger has allegedly told his national team’s doctors he has been suffering with the problem for “two to three weeks” and has been ordered to rest ahead of Friday’s showdown with Scotland.

The Scout Says: With Belgium in a strong position to qualify for next year’s World Cup, it’s highly unlikely they will risk the wide man over the next week if the injury is any real worry. Certainly, any potential absence would have a major effect on Fantasy line-ups – while Jose Mourinho has a multitude of attacking midfielders to choose from, Hazard is the most popular midfielder in the FPL game and currently resides in over 24%. An injury update from the Belgium squad will be keenly awaited as his owners hope for a positive prognosis with 10 days still to go before domestic action resumes.

Altidore Hamstring Relief

Sunderland’s Jozy Altidore has been given the all-clear to resume training with the US national squad. The forward missed out on last Saturday’s defeat at Crystal Palace due to a hamstring injury and was expected to be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks but an MRI scan has shown there is no serious damage ahead of games against Costa Rica and Mexico.

The Scout Says: This will be welcome news for Paolo Di Canio after the weekend loss against the Eagles. Having sold Stephane Sessegnon to West Brom, the Black Cats’ boss awaits news on Connor Wickham, who has withdrawn from England Under 21 duty, and with Steven Fletcher lacking fitness and new loan signing Fabio Borini also short of sharpness, Sunderland will be more reliant than ever on Altidore ahead of a run of games which sees them entertain Arsenal, Liverpool and United over the next four Gameweeks.

Rafael on the Mend

United’s Rafael has conveniently handed Fantasy managers a heads-up via his Instagram account by revealing he is set to return to training next week after missing the start of the season due to a hamstring injury.

The Scout Says: David Moyes will be relieved by the Brazilian’s speedy recovery after seeing Phil Jones forced off against Liverpool with an ankle injury. The former Blackburn man has deputised at right-back in the Brazilian’s absence but has since withdrawn from England duties with the problem – a possible return for Rafael would bring him firmly back onto Fantasy radars ahead of a run which see the champions face four home games (CPL, WBA, SOT, STO) and a trip to Sunderland in the next six.

Suarez Set for Wide Role

Reports in this morning’s Times suggest Luis Suarez will be shifted to the flank upon his return to action for Liverpool later this month. The Uruguayan is due back in time for the Gameweek 6 trip to Sunderland and with Brendan Rodgers bringing in Victor Moses on loan, Philippe Coutinho could be set for a move to “the hole” behind Daniel Sturridge as the Reds boss rolls out a 4-2-3-1:

The Scout Says: Sturridge’s form certainly has been worthy of the lone forward role. The former Chelsea man has not only notched in each of the first three Gameweeks, he has now found the net 10 times in the eight games Suarez has been suspended for – a clear indication of his goal-getting abilities. Such a scenario would not only cement Sturridge’s appeal for Fantasy managers, it would also re-ignite Coutinho’s potential – the Brazilian has failed to produce any returns in the opening three Gameweeks and has resultantly been sold on by over 106,000 FPL managers. Sturridge missed training for England yesterday with the thigh problem that had bothered him prior to the United match but his absence is thought to be precautionary.

Parr Boost for Palace

Crystal Palace left-back Jonathan Parr stepped up his recovery from an ankle ligament injury by turning out for the Eagles’ second-string side yesterday. The Norwegian, along with Paddy McCarthy, started the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff U21s before making way at the break in his first match since being sidelined towards the end of last season.

The Scout Says: Parr was a key player for Ian Holloway’s side last term and turned out 38 times in their promotion-winning campaign. His absence has afforded Dean Moxey the chance to deputise in the back-four but, once fully-fit, it’s likely that the Norway international will regain his starting berth – handing Fantasy managers another budget option, with a 4.0 price tag in the FPL game.

Move over aguero for Sturridge. It's the in move at the moment but Sturridge bein the focal point of the attack will defienatly mean he score more goals than aguero on the wing.
I would tm upgrade eriksen to lamela and downgrade soldado to benteke.

And all that gives you a bit of change to help out the defence

Aguero can be downgraded soon, or even replaced by Suarez before long.

Funny how all the non WC users are trying to lay into the WC users, trying to convince themselves they made the right decision. Im not saying using your WC now is right or wrong. There is definatly pros and cons to both but I think this year with all the new signings and seemingly new trend of defenders picking up bonus it seems the right time. Iv noticed from past seasons holding your WC for a mega DGW or injuries is massively overrated. If you plan well you can get the same amount of players as a WC'er you may lose i would say 4-12 points at most.

I found that building a structured squad with high value getting an early lead sets you up well for the future mostly for your mini-leagues which is my priority personally. Leaves your opponents chasing and taking unneccesary risks. Also easier to maintain your rank than shoot up when its gets to half way point of the season. Now you can shoot up from being ranked 1m to top 10k in a few good gws.

    Just my opinion.

Not all. For me it is a personal choice an for many it is necassary. However sometimes the grass is greener. I can see plenty of tempting changes I could make, also submit to the RVP fear factor for the Palace game, however I currently have a team averaging over 65pts per game so why on earth woul I change it? In 2 weeks I coul have a team full of players with red flags next to them and will be glad to have a wc sitting there.

If you have a decent team now, there's not that many points to be won by WCing. However, if you aim for a mega DGW later on, you can optimize your team for the weeks preceeding it, for the actual DGW, and if there's a later DGW, you can have half an eye on that as well. A lot of points can be made up by doing this right.

On the flip side, a lot of points can be made up right now as well, if you're team is in a miserable state.

There is nothing wrong with 'convincing yourself' with a well laid argument. I'm glad that not everyone is a sheep and are prepared to stand by their own convictions. I see no reason why they can't express their own logic and argue an alternative view.

    RVP.

During the pre-season, some absolute idiots created the idea that he was finished...

Bigger idiots believed the other idiots.

Then he didnt score in a friendly, that meant it was statistically proven that RVP was finished.

Then he scored 2 in the CS; some people said he was essential again, other people said "it was only Wigan"...

Then he scored 2 beauties in the first PL game, he was essential again, "oh, so that's why he is 14m, world class"...

Then he didnt score against 2 very defensive teams, Chelsea & Liverpool, so now he is completely shite again...

    Absolute muppets on this site.

Not sure how to agree more.

What shat me was how I would read certain people saying before the Chelsea and Pool games: I hope RVP doesn't score so that his owners are proven wrong.

WTF! If he was scoring every game he would have almost the record for most goals in a season. If it's not justifiable for him to not be scoring against what should two of three top defensive teams, then I don't know how our expectations of him could be less realistic.

I think everyone is being stupid when it comes to the RVP debate. The fact is he will score a lot of goals this season, he's not remotely past it. I have my own questions about United but that's a different story.

The actual issue is his price.

Last season he was brilliant but the season before that I believe he scored more points at Arsenal. Even then he didn't wind up being priced at 14.0. That price tag to me indicated he should get 30 league goals this season at the very least which, with United under a new manager and still working out a lot of problems, I cannot see. Therefore for me he isn't worth the money but I understand why people pick him.

All pre season I was adiment that I wouldn't be getting RVP. This would have remained the case if some of the midfield options had performed. This has made me shift from wanting big hitters in midfield to having garunteed goal scores upfront (I know the midfielders will come good soon but there is a lot of rotation risk out there).

I think I'll end up with this team aslong as nothing happens over the international break:

    Mignolet
    Zabaleta | Coleman | Shaw
    Walcott | Silva | Mirallas | Ward-Prowse
Van Persie | Benteke | Sturridge

    Bunn | Barkley | Ward | Chester

Its pretty much ment I've dropped Coutinho for Ward-Prowse which has given me enough money to get RVP in.

Pretty happy with that to be honest, still have faith that Mirallas will come good. I think Walcott's prospects have been increase with the addition of Ozil (can see him laying on a lot of goals for Walcott) Silva's started the season ok and gives maybe the safest Man City attacking coverage.

Only thing I think I'm missing is Tottenham coverage.

Ok but surely the big teams are going to keep at least the same amount of cleanies as last year, probably more as a lot of teams have problems up front. Fact is a clean sheet is now worth more than it was, somewhere between 7-8 points instead of 6.

A rarity though. The 1-0s will be where the bonus is at, along with in the 2-0s to a lesser extent. Anything more without all the goals/assists being by the same person will see the defenders miss out in the vast majority of matches.

Im not buying in to this 4 or 5 man defence and heres why.

So far i have averaged 55 points and thats with 3 defs and none of my mid or strikers have fired yet.

So i think my points total will be even better once my attacking players start to fire.

Clean sheets will dry up mark my words.

I know there was a Hot Topic above re WC RMT and double risers but the double risers aspect seemed to be overlooked a little. It's my first time playing my WC in the first International Break to 'play the transfer value game' and would like to know who you guys think will double rise?

So far I have (bracket prices indicate purchase price) Brady (5m) Barkley (4.5m) Hernandez (6m) Ben Arfa (7m) Giroud (8.7) Sturridge (9.1) Benteke (9.1)

I guess we are more likely to see these values shoot up after the Internationals have been played?

I said to my friend that Ozil is the best 10th man in the world. He disagreed, thought I was getting carried away since we signed him. The next day (today) he linked me to this article, admitting I was right: he is the best 10th man in the world. Worth a read.

Quick bit of advice regarding the Sun Dream Team

Currently have Szczeny as my goalkeeper, is the new arrival on loan likely to oust him anytime soon or has he been signed as cover.

I'm loathe to use on of only 3 transfers on a GK, serves me right for not going migs initially
