Arsene Wenger has this afternoon confirmed Theo Walcott is set to be sidelined with the stomach problem that forced him out of Sunday’s win over Stoke.

Speaking to the press ahead of the midweek Capital One Cup clash against West Brom, the Gunners boss revealed:

“Theo will be out for a few weeks. He has developed some damage to his posterior abdominal wall. It’s not a hernia, but it’s a little structural problem in his abdomen. He will have the procedure in Germany on Wednesday and, because it’s so minor, we can begin his rehab immediately. We are pleased it’s being dealt with quickly and he shouldn’t miss too many Arsenal matches. But he will miss the forthcoming international matches with England.”

The news is now set to spark a selling spree across the Fantasy games as Walcott owners assess the midfield landscape in light of his absence. Ruled out for the next two league matches at least, he will certainly miss back-to-back trips to Swansea and West Brom and with a two-week international break following on from the Hawthorns clash, the exodus will continue at pace.

Given the Gunners’ upcoming kind run of games, Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are immediate alternatives for those looking to invest in Wenger’s midfield – the latter has already risen 0.3 in price this week, while Ozil is primed for an overnight price hike following his trio of assists against the Potters. With Swansea and Tottenham also bracing themselves for kind schedules, Michu and Christian Eriksen will surely now pick up in ownership as the already-hectic market goes into overdrive.

Fantasy managers were also handed a heads-up by David Moyes earlier this afternoon with the news that Robin Van Persie is almost certainly ruled out of United’s Capital One Cup clash against Liverpool tomorrow evening.

Speaking to the media in today’s press conference, the Red Devils boss offered a somewhat pessimistic prognosis on the Dutchman, who missed Sunday’s 4-1 mauling at the hands of City in the first Manchester derby of the season:

“I don’t think Robin van Persie will play on Wednesday, but he has an outside chance for Saturday.”

With United set to face West Brom at Old Trafford this weekend, the potential for significant Fantasy points is obvious and the vast majority of the Dutchman’s owners will be reluctant to ship him out.

Given that the champions also entertain Southampton and Stoke and have trips to Sunderland and Fulham in the next five, the schedule looks primed for Van Persie to return to form after a disappointing run of games has seen him notch just once – via the spot – since the opening day of the season.

A swap for Wayne Rooney grows more appealing by the day, though. The former Everton man has now struck in back-to-back matches and has now overtaken Van Persie in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game on 24 points to his team-mate’s 21 – with a far kinder price tag (10.6 to 14.0) and vastly inferior ownership (6% to 41%), Rooney seems to have his spark back under Moyes and his acquisition would also free up much-needed funds for Van Persie owners to bolster the rest of their squads.

It may well be that Van Persie makes it in time for tomorrow’s match, though, and Moyes is simply keeping his cards close to his chest as he plots a return to winning ways after the weekend humbling. The Scotsman was notoriously reluctant to reveal team news during his time at Everton, with his penchant for discussing “knocks and niggles†proving frustrating for Fantasy plans.

The Dutchman’s owners will be hoping Moyes is a little more transparent with the injury updates over the next few days – as last weekend showed, vice-captains and bench options look key for those who chose to hold Van Persie if he remains a doubt heading into the weekend’s deadline.

I need a cheap Wally downgrade, so who would you go for between

    Brady, Whittingham, Arnautovic or Moses*.

*the problem with Moses is that, I want to do Soldado ---> Suarez next week, so that transfer won't look so pretty with Moses already there.

On the WC, and trying to figure out a way to have as little value as possible sitting on the bench...

Trying to cash in on Barkley and Brady rises right now, but I'm unsure whether or not I want them long term... I think I'd much rather get Jedinak in as my 5th mid and play a solid 4-3-3 every week without having to worry about benching points...

The core of my team is looking like this right now... these guys will play every week..

    Migs
    Baines Vidic Walker
    Ozil Michu
    Rooney Suarez Lukaku.

Wilson and Clyne will rotate for the 4th defender spot for the next 8 or so weeks... and Ramsey will most likely have the 3rd mid spot to himself (until I downgrade Walker after GW11 and upgrade him), but I may choose to play 5-2-3 at times as well...

I will have two 4.5m midfield bench sitters, but I think I would prefer this than to have Barkley and Brady on the bench collecting dust, and eating into my funds for defenders... with these guys, I can only afford to have Ferdinand and Dawson at the back, and that looks a whole lot less appealing to me... I'd much rather use the extra money to upgrade them...

    Essentially, it's...

Vidic, Walker, Jedinak & 4.5m (let's say Morrison)

    OR

    Ferdinand, Dawson, Barkley & Brady

Are we in agreement that the first one is a better distribution of value?

P.S. Apologies for longish post, I do tend to ramble on a bit...

      Migs (Harper)
Coleman Vidic Walker (Collins + Chester)
Ozil Oscar HBA (JWP + Morrison)
      Soldado Suarez Giroud

+1.7 HBA -> Michu (If i wanna take a hit this week, because won't be able to afford it next week)
Or Collins -> Lolarov next week if he starts again? (Collins faces Tott, City and Swn following 3)

Zep, excellent post. The Brady/Barkley points left on the bench is a real concern and left me contemplating Nasty as my third defender.

The only concern would be not having Giroud I guess but then it would be covered by Ramsey and Ozil.

      Food for thought.

Other midfielders I own are Michu, Barkley and Ravel.

Apologies to those who replied to my Vidic/Rio question on page 1 and I ended up rudely ignoring - I had to do a very small amount of work for a moment (it's left me shattered!)

Consensus seems to be that Vidic has slightly more goal threat and comes with greater peace of mind. Now I just need to work out if that's worth £0.5m or not...

I actually think Ferdinand will prove to be decent value...he will get the odd BP in a 1-0 or 2-0 game... but the talk of him not being completely nailed on is unsettling...

I really want Evra now I've seen the stats, but I just can't stretch to 6.5 without destroying the already vicarious balance of my team...

It looks like Vidic will be my compromise...

I know, it's annoying... if we consider Rio's non-nailed-on-ness 😀 as a myth, and he plays every game up until Xmas, can we really see the extra goal threat of Vidc being worth an extra 0.5m, because to be honest I don't think they will be miles apart in the BPS...

What swayed me (when i was happy with my WC team) is that I can easily go Vidic -> Ferd and use that 0.5 rather than work it backwards. I also see Evans rotating Ferd out once the team settles and the 'easy' fixtures are actually easy.

Yep, and both have played every minute so far this season, if Rio is nailed on I'd be all over him but it would be typical to bring him in and then see him rested.

yep. vidic for 2 reasons you said, peace of mind and goal threat. rio's only plus points (albeit good ones) so far are a slightly cheaper price and more bps so far. small sample of course bp wise

Yep, the bonus is interesting. Vidic actually has 1 BPS more but Rio got the higher score when it counted most. I suspect they'll be very similar for bonus if they had equal gametime throughout the season.

Samir Nasri a decent differential ?

When fit silva is nailed on but if nasri plays like he did on sun he will get good game time ahead of navas.

2 goals already and he seems happier under the new manager.

i already asked this, the answer was that he was a rotation risk, people are waiting for an injury for navas and silva, i still think he did well from the bench. i wouldnt go with him just yet even though i had him at the start of the season

Well it was definitely a problem for them last season. It's usually the board who buy the players at big clubs now-a-days. Doubt Mancini bought him to be honest.
If it didn't work last year why would Pelegrini go back to Silva/Nasri on the wings

Was looking at a few stats between coleman and Baines (for those on a WC)

Baines: Way more chances created, higher propensity for bonus points, pens & free kicks, 0 goal attempts in the box

Coleman: More touches in the box, more goal attempts in the box

So assuming everton keep 15 cleanies (fair assumption i think) from remaining 33 games
    Baines = 15*7.5 (with baps) + 23 (2) = 158.5
    Coleman = 15*6 (0 baps) + 23 (2) = 136

This obviously excludes attacking points...did a quick calc and in order for them similar "value", baines would need to score 34 more attacking points then coleman i.e. 5 goals + 1 assist

    The question is, will he?

any chance of a upvote? 😉

Davis is a 4.0M for Southampton. He is in WC teams as he has the most owners of the 4.0M range, but isn't a starter. This is due to casuals picking him as he got a few points last season, compared to 0 from other 4.0 options from promoted clubs. The only 4.0 who will play ATM is Lewis, due to an injury for Marshall.

I know it's not normal to discuss next weeks transfers, but, it's already giving me a headache....

I have 3.6m in the bank....

    Do i do......
    1)Lukaku - Suarez (0.1m left)
    2) Giroud - Suarez (1.6m left)

Comes down to who do we think will do better throughout the season. Lukaku or Giroud?
