Injuries

The orderly queue to Everton’s treatment room has grown further with two more updates from Goodison in the last 24-hours. As David Moyes begins to contemplate another spell without striker Louis Saha, he now has to digest the fact that Jack Rodwell’s season is looking under threat, while Seamus Coleman is also a concern for the visit of Villa in a week’s time.

Rodwell is undoubtedly the major concern for Moyes. The rumoured £20 million target for Man United suffered an ankle injury in the 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday which saw him withdraw from the England U21 squad – reports now suggest that the injury is far worse than expected. According to the latest claims, Rodwell’s could even sit out the rest of the season. The midfielder has been sent to see a specialist and there are fears that he could be out for at least a month.

Everton’s woes continued with the news that Coleman has withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad for their Euro 2012 qualifier against Macedonia this weekend – he also has an ankle injury, again sustained in Saturday’s win over Fulham.

As we mentioned yesterday, David Moyes is already without Marouane Fellaini for the season, while Mikel Arteta faces another month out and Louis Saha’s season may also have come to an end. With Rodwell joining their ranks and Coleman presumably a doubt for the Goodison clash with Villa in gameweek 31, the Everton squad now looks pretty ragged.

Given the absentees in midfield, Jermain Beckford, at 4.9 in the Fantasy Premier Leauge, is beginning to look assured of starts up front with Tim Cahill set for a support role. Leon Osman’s place and responsibility as the creative playmaker is also looking nailed-on, while both Phil Neville and John Heitinga could remain in the engine room. David Moyes may even have to put some faith in Diniyar Bilyaletdinov – it’s got that bad.

In Fantasy terms, it’s Beckford and Cahill who could emerge from this spate of injuries with boosted potential – their returns however will depend greatly on whether the likes of Osman and Leighton Baines down the left, can provide the ammunition.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not a big fan of my team, but got various transfers planned for the next few weeks.

    Foster, Al Habsi
    Huth, Kolarov, Rafael, Coleman, Djourou
Nani, Van der Vaart, Nasri, Meireles, Downing
    Rooney, Van Persie, Zigic

Am thinking the most pressing transfers:
    Rafael -> Luiz (free)
Kolarov or Coleman -> Dawson (4pt hit)

    Agree/disagree?

Thanks man, just curious as to which part of the second one you disagree with - is it getting rid of Kolarov, getting in Dawson, or taking a 4pt hit? Or all of the above?!

Yeah might be best to save that particular transfer for next week, Kolarov should start so probably not worth it.

I like the choice of Dawson though, maybe next week, Spurs vs Stoke has got CS written all over it.

With the Luiz transfer this week you have a good enough team I reckon. Just my opinion though mate!

Arry' just made some nonsensical statement about Mordic being worth more than £100 million...Why are player ratings so exaggerated?

I'm on the planet where I watch football and make my own opnion and don't just go along with the sheep.

The whole idea of pricing someone against someone else is ridiculous anyway as it depends on the situation of the club who's selling and buying, where the player what's to go, his age, the time of season, the replacement available etc.

You're right. I'm just trying to defend my -withdraw- assessment of Carlos Tevez's value against people who have valued Garth Bale at 30m, despite the fact that Bale's just Marcelo minus the fact that he has given up on tackling,tracking-back,and marking players!

Is he a FB? imo, no. Is he a decent winger? Yes, imo. Is he better than Ashley Young on the wing? imo, no!

The market is like buy and selling anything else, like you said. The fact that Liverpool brought Carrol for that much is proof that talent isn't the only deciding factor of a player's price.

Obviously way too early to decide, but team at the minute:

    Foster (Begovic)
    Baines, Coleman, Kolarov, Carr, (Djourou)
    Nani, Nasri, VDV, Adam, (Thomas)
    RvP, Rooney (Saha)

Was planning to save the transfer this week, then do

    Baines to Walker (or Bramble)
    Thomas to Lamps
Saha to Welbeck (or Doyle, or Ba, or Sturridge - someone cheap who I won't play often).

Do I need to make the Saha transfer this week instead? Thomas is my only fit sub, Coleman's out of the internationals, and Kolarov is not guaranteed to start.

A.Cole or Terry for the next few weeks?
A.Cole seems to attract bonus (JT got 0 all season!)
Terry more chance of a goal

(Going for A.Cole means i'd keep Coleman instead of getting Dawson)

I'd go with that assesment as well. I'd even pick Ivanovic over Luiz if money was no object, there's a small chance hell be rested around the CL though. Ivanovic is deadly in the air.

I see what you mean but witht attacking potential of Terry and Luiz, there is more than 18 points potentially, before bonuses. May even consider captaining Luiz for DGW at this rate, too.
