Arsene Wenger has given us a timely update on the injury situation at the Emirates, announcing that Cesc Fabregas, Abou Diaby, Alex Song and Theo Walcott could all return to contention in time for the gameweek 31 clash with Blackburn.

Speaking to Arsenal TV, Wenger sounded optimistic on their chances…

“It’s a long way to go, but at the moment they’re looking good.â€

The return of the midfield quartet will surely prove a huge positive for Arsenal’s title challenge, but for Fantasy Managers their availability could cause issues with rotation. The return of Walcott and Fabregas in particular, clouds the issue with Samir Nasri and Andrey Arshavin who will both be on the radar as we lead into Arsenal’s double fixture in gameweek 33.

That pairing have previously been vying for the starting role on the left flank, with Walcott operating on the right. While Arshavin has at times played second fiddle to the outstanding Nasri, the Russian’s current run of form will surely hand Wenger a selection poser. We could well see frequent rotation of Walcott, Nasri and Arshavin over Arsenal’s remaining matches then – denting the Fantasy potential of all three.

Cesc Fabregas seems set to emerge as smart acquisition yet again then, despite a faltering season which has seen him return just 3 goals to go with 10 assists to this point. Injury has obviously hampered his potential, but if Fabregas can make an eye-catching return against Blackburn, he will be firmly back in our thoughts for the season run-in, particularly if Wenger begins to shuffle elsewhere in his midfield.

In other injury news from the Emirates, Thomas Vermaelen has indicated that he is unlikely to see action this season…

“The chances that I will play another game this season are small…I can understand my manager when he says that my season is over: I have been out for seven months and I must fulfil a complete ‘pre-season.â€

The defender has been nursing an Achilles injury since September, leaving Wenger stretched for resources at the back; a situation worsened by the recent shoulder injury sustained by Johan Djourou. Arsenal did at least receive positive news on him this week – the Swiss international will not require surgery and the latest indicates that he will be targeting a return for the clash with United on May 1. Until then, Wenger looks set to persevere with Laurent Koscielny and Sebastien Squillaci at the back – not a pairing that encourages confidence or investment from Fantasy Managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Anyone thinking about Defoe, it seems to me he was a bit unlucky against west ham but getting into good goal scoring positions

      was thinking Defoe myself...bit of a gamble tho!

      any thoughts on the following...

      A.Young->VDV
      Tevez->Rooney

      or

      A.Young->Lampard
      Tevez->Carroll

        Both are good options imo but I would choose welbeck over carroll...do you think Berba to Defoe is worth it?

          Cheers mate.
          I'd go for Defoe over Berba, think Wigan will be the weaker team than West Ham, too much of a substitution risk with Hernandez, Berba may only play one half...

        *the majority

        seriously i even abandoned the agonisingly long wait for my db garavatar to update to make my point. 1 of them is top 4 prediction made 5 days ago, that's like captain hidsight lite.
        others seems to be either linked at a certain point to make them look like something they're not, tommy bookmarking his own joke then claiming that's a chill pill fail? others seem to just be bokmarking a debate/argument between two people where one person thought they were right so bookmarked it and all they have is a debate linked.
        oh and shit the bed samamaweera is a disturbing exploitation of the quantity over quality approach.

            Besides JT is a bell end who isnt half as good as he or his bum chums in the media make out.

            The amount of praise he gets for merely staying longer than many of his CB partners is baffling.

    interesting article here about a guy’s thoughts on Wenger suggesting that the final three rounds of Premier League matches should kick off simultaneously.

    Goes on to give a summary of the results from the teams (arsenal, chelsea, man united) as either pace setters or responders, we see which they prefer.

    Also he looks at how good teams are at capitalising on results as responders, that is winning when their rivals have dropped points before them, and how likely they are to stumble as responders, that is dropping points when their rivals have won before them.

    Well worth a read IMO: http://5addedminutes.wordpress.com/2011/03/25/who-would-benefit-from-simultaneous-title-run-in-kick-offs/

            go on, educate me. only law i know is that a player should be paid full wages even when they are injured, but doesnt mean that te player is forced to accept them. all those hospital bills and fruitless wages could've bought united a pretty good signing.

              Stop trying to mistake when im merely correcting something which is blatantly wrong for some condescending arrogant overlord.

              Have a read at some of the replies below they some it up well. Hargreaves never choose this and while he was injured you can be damn sure he worked his ass of to get fit.
              So while he is working as hard as the other players plus having to overcome the mental barriers and cant through now fault of his own play you want him to give back his wages? He isnt sitting around doing nothing.

              Not only that you call it "shameless".

                thats how you see it probably. but as long as theres no end result, i dont see it being worth it. as materialistic as that may sound, that remains my opinion. (but i do see your point)
                personally, i dont care how hard he works if he isnt an asset to the business/team, then he isnt worth the hassle.

                i was discussing this topic with a friend and he gave me this link

            out of curiosity, is a team allowed to get rid of a player? for example: would it have been possible for ferguson to get rid of hargreaves in 2010 for example by terminating the contract?

              think they'd have to do it by mutual consent, with both parties consenting. my guess is that would basically be admitting defeat for hargreaves so he doesn't even want to think about that side of it, let alone go and do it. the psychological battle to stay motivated and keep believing he can come back to an adequate level must be almost impossible by now with all the set-backs

        I very much doubt he'll get a new deal in the summer. Unless it's pay as you play. Would be good if he did that but agents are bound to be involved and he'll probably accept a full deal elsewhere. Blurrgh to it all.

    Assuming no one breaks his balls on intl duty 😀 , who's the best candidate to drop from my front eight between Nasri, VdV, Nani, Nolan, Adam, Rooney, RVP & Berbatov?

    With the Champions League quarters looming i'm guessing at least one of those players would be rested and possibly come on in the 89th minute.

    My gut is telling me Nolan & Berbs are going to score big. . .

      Berbatov and VdV are likely to be the two who don't get the minutes. You can't drop Nolan or there's no point having him

        If VdV doesnt start, i think there's a better chance of him not playing at all and getting auto subbed than Berbatov. So i guess i'll go with Berbs on the bench.

        Then again Rooney has been playing a bit deep, am i crazy for thinking about dropping him instead?

      Huth, Simpson and Coleman (if he's fit).

      Thats virtually the same backline as mine, except I have Walker instead of Simpson.

      I assume you have Foster i goal?

        Yes, I do! (with Robinson as back-up, but I'm playing Foster this week)

          Hence why I never said to play RJ.

          I have him too as well as Foster, which is a waste really as I pretty much play Foster every week anyway and I don't double up on Brum defence.

    Don't you think Kolarov could do well against Sunderland? I plan to offload him after this week, but feel this fixture could be profitable.

      Everyone should get on Twitter and tell him how great a captain Terry is today.

      Mug doesn't even deserve to be in the team let alone captain, he is no JT.
