Romelu Lukaku flexes his substantial Fantasy football muscles to wreck the Newcastle defence and leave us re-assessing our forward lines yet again. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of Hatem Ben Arfa and a transformed second-half showing from Newcastle has his owners hovering over the panic button.

The Game Changer

Lukaku simply ran riot in the first half with the Newcastle back four unable to cope with his pace and power. Having transformed and won the game at Upton Park from the bench, this evening, the Belgian dismantled the Magpies with a brace and an assist that put the game out of reach.

We shouldn’t be surprised by Lukaku’s impact. We saw last season that, when he is given pitch time, he can deliver, with 17 goals from just 20 league starts at West Brom. Jose Mourinho may feel that his game is not refined enough for the Chelsea squad but Lukaku has nonetheless proved to be hugely effective on the Premier League stage.

Fantasy managers now have to carefully consider their front lines. Lukaku at 7.6 and rising in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will clearly represent outstanding value if he can replicate the strike rate shown at the Hawthorns. On tonight’s evidence, there’s every chance he can achieve that and more, putting further pressure on the three slots in our squad.

The Underused

It seems almost folly to discuss yet another option up front but we shouldn’t ignore Loic Remy’s late goal which left the Goodison nerves jangling. Three goals in three starts underline the Frenchman’s impact that, while less explosive than Lukaku’s at Everton, has been no less effective.

Available in the same FPL price bracket, Remy’s performance will likely be overlooked but, having been shifted to a central role in place of Papiss Cisse tonight, it’s clear that Remy will, quite literally, be central to their aspirations this season.

The Selection Poser

Hatem Ben Arfa’s withdrawal at half-time took everyone by surprise and yet, minutes later, his replacement Yohan Cabaye, scored from range to hand the Magpies an unlikely lifeline. Despite attempting to focus play through Ben Arfa in the first half, Alan Pardew took the decision to replace him with the more combative Cabaye for the second period and the change appeared to pep up the visitors as they came close to an unlikely comeback.

The reason behind the change is uncertain. Certainly Alan Pardew gave no indication of an injury in his post-match comments, leaving Ben Arfa’s owners frustrated at the curtailed pitch time and somewhat anxious that the mercurial winger may have fallen out of favour ahead of the Gameweek 7 trip to Cardiff. We await further noises from St James’ Park.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    My team:

    Boruc McGregor
    Mertesacker Dawson Gabbidon Wilson Turner
    Oscar Barkley Brady Ozil Eriksen
    Rooney Sturridge Negredo

I WC last week, so should I save my FT for the international break? Or are there any glaring errors that needs to be fixed? If all goes smooth, I am planning to do Negredo -> Lukaku and Barkley -> Toure next week. Opinions?

Any advice folks? Still got Theo waiting on my bench but tempted to just play Barkley this week and us an FT on defence.

    Boruc
Enrique - B. Turner - Coleman (Collins, Chester)
Barkley - Michu - Paulinho - Whittingham (Walcott)
    RVP - Sturridge (c) - Lambert

So it's either Theo out or deal with Chester now.

But then again, he'll be back soon and is very cheap - not worth a transfer when I can play Coleman this week.

So after my evaluation of Lukaku (which so far has proved very correct) , I have again spent time to find a solution to another dilemma creeping up. Ramsey or Sigurdsson? Like me a lot of people must have asked this question. How could you not? Ramsey scoring for fun and with a huge ownership. Sigurdsson starting to show the kind of form which brings you FPL points plus the much needed Tottenham coverage. Well here is another, a bit long, post which hopefully will give you some clarification.
    1)Ramsey :-
    *CM
    *6 games
    *Full 90 minutes played
    *4 goals
    *2 assists
    *1 CS
    *8 bonus points collected.
*Even though finishing has been a weakness in the previous seasons, that has obviously changed.
*Main strengths- Passing, Dribbling, Holding on to the ball.
*Pass % of 87.5 and 2.3 shots per goal.
    * How long his form is going to continue is a question, considering the impending returns of Arteta , Cazorla , Chamberlain and Walcott to the Gunners midfield. Surely his chances will reduce as he will have to concentrate deeper in his own half.
    *83 points in 12/13 season.
    * Price- 6.4 m

    2) Sigurdsson
    *AM
    *5 games
    *90,26, 78, 70, 90 minutes respectively.
    *3 Goals
    *0 assists.
    *3 CS
    *5 bonus points collected.
    * Is on set pieces, especially Direct Free kicks.
    * Likes to cut inside, cross and also shoot from distance.
    * Pass % of 84.6 and 2.6 Shots per Goal.
    * Likely to be rotated with Chadli.
    * With the likes of Dembele, Eriksen and Paulinho in the team enabling him to push forward more he is likely to get more goals.
    *77 points in 12/13 season.
    *Price 7.1 m

Well that’s all on statistics. With both having very good fixtures I would say it is pretty much a close call. Ramsey is cheaper and on a roaring bandwagon where as Sigurdsson is costlier but is a great FK specialist as well.

Imo even though Ramsey seems enticing Sigurdsson may very well establish himself as a template mid.
A couple of weeks more and we can surely tell.
    Cheers.

Form over fixtures or fixtures over form?

I wouldn't trust Mourinho. Michu is the #1 midfielder in my book, but you probably have him. I'd go for the obvious, Özil. His quality should shine through the next couple of games, and you can wait until Wally is 100% before you switch back.

I doubt Naughton will keep his place once Rose is back. I think out of these two Dawson is more likely to start but he does have competition from Chiriches and Kaboul.

Here are the players that concern me this week, with 0.7 in the bank, who goes first and how many points would you spend?

            Aguero
            Redmond
            Ward-Prowse
            Ben Arfa
            Chester
            Chambers

Thinking Vidic and Lampard will be fine but still have concerns.

if Aguero is fit and Ben Arfa is fit then it's just a case of moving on one of Ward-Prowse, Chambers or Redmond. I can only really afford a defensive switch in that case unless I do a -4 with recent price rises.

Maybe Chambers out if it's a FT. I wouldn't be taking hits right before the break.

                    not even with that team?

As you'll be playing either Redmond or Ward-Prowse and they look unlikely to start, I'd ditch one of them for Barkley. Tough fixture next, but two good ones after.

would have to be Redmond then, the problem is, that still leaves me three guaranteed non-starters in JWP, Chester and Chambers. Which is why I'm pursuing a hit, because I don't want to see any more zeros in my team 🙁

Who are people captaining tonight in UCLF? It's between Oscar and Balo for me. (Or Neymar if I get him in.)

Even without Messi I can see this being a mauling. Perfect conditions in Glasgow

Barcelona are capable of mauling anyone and they may well maul Celtic tonight but I should point out that not many teams get a result in Glasgow and Celtic have beaten most teams in Glasgow.

I am predicting and am hopeful of seeing at least 5. Might visit my local bookmakers in fact.

I'd seriously consider a Zenit player. They are rampant right now.

THat's an idea actually, I have Kerzhakov so I could c him over Lewa... If it fails I always have Ronaldo!
