Craig Gordon has announced that he still remains well short of fitness as he battles to regain the number one jersey at Sunderland. An article in the Northern Echo this morning quotes the stricken Black Cats stopper who is still struggling with a knee injury…

“I’m not very close to being fully fit to be honest. I go back to see the specialist in the middle of next month. It’s a possibility (that I will not be fully fit until next season). A strong possibility. I’ll need to wait and see what the doctor says. I’m in his hands and he will tell me what I’m capable of doing from there.”

This comes as significant news for Fantasy Managers due to the potential offered by Simon Mignolet. The young Belgian keeper has started the last three league games for Steve Bruce, conceding 4 goals and keeping a superb clean sheet at the Emirates in gameweek 29. That game saw a 10 point haul with 2 Save Points and 2 Bonus for Mignolet, bringing the 3.9 valued prospect to the attention of Fantasy Premier League Managers.

Although Sunderland travel to Eastlands this weekend, the clean sheet against Arsenal on their last away trip will give them confidence, while City’s goalscoring form is hardly convincing right now. After this, Sunderland’s fixtures improve markedly, as our recent “Frisking the Fixtures” article outlined. With this latest news on Gordon’s fitness, it seems likely that Mignolet will cement his starting role – providing a significant boost to his already healthy Fantasy stock.

Look out for his ranking in today’s Watchlist update; a full Watchlist article assessing Mignolet’s potential will also follow.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

"After making a couple of comfortable saves, Lehmann had a moment to forget a minute before the break as he air-kicked a backpass and the ball rolled inches wide of goal. "

    LOL, classic Arsenal GK.. 🙁

It would truly be a sign of the times if he becomes your first choice keeper.....

Beginning to think that Chelsea are now united's main contenders.......

I doubt it, sounds like he had a bad game, conceded to goals. Looks like Almunia will be in goal at the weekend.

In Jens Lehmann ans Jeremie Aliadiere, did Arsenal have more Premier League league medals in their reserves today than in their first team?

    Djourou/R Johnson > Smalling

    Sturridge > Hoilett

A Young > Arshavin/O'Hara/Albrighton (leaving money for better players upfront)

    Which would you recommend?

I'm going to HKU too, to do a masters in linguistics and then hopefully a PhD. Anyway, I must sleep now. Kowloon is OK - Very crowded and quite polluted though. A lot of foreigners choose to live on Lantau island (connected by road, don't worry) because it's more spacious. Do plenty of research before commiting to a place to live, for sure.

Is that the standard Dutch team these days then? Other than Robben normally playing in the place of Afellay...

Does VDV play deep then? Or is it Afellay? I swear he was playing in a deeper role for PSV at times last year....

    Un-flippin'-believable ...

Years - years - on this site as a passive contributor ... and the one day a topic goes political/economic/governmental and me - a government teacher - is absent until the discussion ends. Arrgh.

Buggumark this post for any future challenges to RBJ's intelligence or ability to carry serious conversation, though (that's a compliment ... if not clear).

    FFS regular:
Endless RMTs, arguing if assists count when the path of the ball was not significantly deflected off a defender, cringing at BAP allotments

    FFS international-break style:
Discussions over acronyms, politics, new fantasy watching-paint-dry leagues, multi-accounting posters and shifting grav/nickname identities

Both amusing, in their way: Draw.
