As reported earlier this week, Craig Gordon has announced that he remains troubled by a knee injury that has seen him sit out the last three league encounters. Having excelled in his absence, young Simon Mignolet now looks nailed-on to feature in the Black Cats’ end of season run-in, presenting an extremely attractive option for Fantasy Managers.

There should be no doubt about Mignolet’s talent. After his man-of-the-match performance against Arsenal at the Emirates, manager Steve Bruce hailed the Belgian international’s heroics and talked up his prospects at the Stadium of Light…

“He’s got a big part to play in the future of the club, we’ve unearthed a very good young goalkeeper. It’s a big pat on the back to everybody whose helped get him here. The biggest compliment of all is to himself. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper, although we’re not surprised he’s done so well because we work with him every day. He’s brave, big and the potential is all there.”

In a straight Fantasy Premier League (FPL) comparison with Gordon, Mignolet comes out on top with 63 points compared to 56 – both players have played 15 games. Mignolet just nudges ahead on clean sheets, from the 12 that Sunderland have achieved this season, the Belgian has been in between the sticks for 7 of them. Save points have also come is way with 5, 7, 2 saves in his last three outings and before that, way back in December against Fulham, Mignolet managed 7 returning 2 points for his owners.

For Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Managers, now couldn’t be a better time to invest in Sunderland as a source of Fantasy points – a tricky trip to Eastlands at the weekend being the only real thorn to be found amongst their final eight fixtures (mcy, WBA, bir, WIG, FUL, bol, WOL, whm). With injuries clearing, Steve Bruce is certainly bullish about his side’s prospects – the return of Lee Cattermole to shield the back four could well be the key factor and should help Sunderland to restore the defensive resolve that has seen them keep those 12 clean sheets.

If you were worried about Sunderland’s defensive prospects over any of their away fixtures, then alternating Mignolet with Newcastle’s Steve Harper is certainly one option that fits snugly. The North East rivals tend to rotate home matches, with the Magpies’ complementing Sunderland’s perfectly over the final eight gameweeks (WOL, WBA MUN, WIG, FUL, BIR, WOL, WBA). While that combination looks strong, many Fantasy Managers will also be assessing a possible partnership with Birmingham’s Ben Foster. This works well in the short-term offering a very decent run in the next five (BOL WBA SUN/che WIG WOL).

Apart from Mignolet’s shot-stopping skills and Sunderland’s strong run of opponents, he is also a budget option at just 3.9 on the FPL game. A price like this can free up funds for other areas of the team that may need a substantial boost in the coming weeks. With an ownership of just 3.6%, Mignolet also has the “differential” potential to fetch you valuable points with the option to double up on the Sunderland defence for their run of three home games in four from gameweek 32.

Call me crazy but I might actually bench Adam this week for Young. Bit of a risk but I benched him at home to West Ham for N'Zogbia and got called crazy but he actually got me more points......

Everton have no midfield - Young could flourish in the centre.

Oh i thought you were joking about benching adam. Nah only kidding mate. I was just expressing my disapproval at the idea of benching adam but in a totally arsey way please accept my apology. Sorry.

Seriously though benching adam is not a good idea may work out for you but its never a good idea at conception.

Can't see Tevz playing this weekend after the Scout Tweet/Man.City website suggested he was in a race to be fit for the Liverpool game?

I have Tevez, Van Persie and Zigic as forwards...

    Was thinking of:
    Tevez->Carroll
    Zigic->Defoe

    Good idea or stupid?!

    Evening gents. Any advice appreciated
I'm planning on a Djourou to Luiz move GW32, in order to do this I'm shipping Bale out this week (prob won't play anyway), and have only 5.0 to spend on a replacement Mid (taking into account Luiz's next rise tonight). This will be followed in GW33 by VDS to Cech.

    Need a 5.0 Midfielder??

    Barton/ Albrighton/ Larsson/ Milijas ?? Thanks

Although it could definitely be reasonably argued that albrighton has better fixtures.

Its a classic coin tosser. Barton set-plays. Albrighton good fixtures.

Yeah, but there really aren't many midfielders for £5m better unfortunately. Saying that, if you squeeze to £5.2, you can't go wrong with Matt Jarvis, I would say he is a tiny bit better than Barton 'til the rest of the season.

Can you squeeze a tenth more for OHara- guess it's probably a no- so go for whoever plays and has a DGW either GW33 or 34--

probably Milijas, but I don't know him that well, or even consider that reliable 3 pointer- Ferguson.

Soft in the middle, so with two free transfers this week, guess I'd do just one:

GW33 Bent to Sturridge Downing to Lampard
    GW34 Johnson to Higginbothan STK

My only thought is that Lampard you probably want Lampard for gw32, as he is probably the best captain option, WIgan at home; could be a field-day! SO, if you know you're going to get him week 33, try your best to get him gw32. It's twice as important to get the captain right as any other player!

Yeah, Fifa was pretty shite, though I still get really nostalgic about it (mainly because of its awesome soundtrack and the fact that United had an excellent squad).

As for Suarez vs. Carroll -- I think it's just a cost question- both will do well and seem to help each other. Carroll is fit and equal to any of the top three Forwards IMHO.

he is a bit of a risk with alex returning but he's just too damn good to drop imo. They paid ridiculous money for him and he's hit the ground running, can't see him not playing almost every game. He can play different positions too and I wouldn't be surprised to see him play some games in midfield, right back, or even left back if carlo wants to give cole a rest before a UCL match.

Cheaper, CL-tied, so more PL-secure, greater attacking threat (IMO)

Surely you're right, but I'm factoring in likelihood for injury, as well. Luiz is the young buck -- run him into the ground, yeah? Terry's the company man - but has had his problems earlier this year. Maybe they chance a rest for him?

Unlikely ... but seeing as it's a coin-toss, why not the cheaper?

And, aside from corners, Luiz has much more threat for assists/goals, dontcha think?

Revs-- just a first year player here, but I too wouldn't do more than Djourou for Smalling.

The other two options are lateral moves (like in the other fantasy games you and I probably play in the States)- maybe Dempsey is OK with his DGW coming- but not for a points hit.

I'd also think about MGP out for a DGW mid if it's a free move in a couple weeks. Nice healthy team. Tons of green arrows. good luck.

Dare I go without Van Persie this weekend?

    Foster (Begovic)
    R Johnson/Coleman/Luiz (Kelly)
    VDV/Nasri/Nani/Nolan/Adam
    Rooney/Tevez (Saha)

Already stupidly kneejerked Luiz in but do I now lose Rooney or Tevez for RVP or leave as is and keep fingers crossed?

yeah you shouldnt go without him. even if he's injured, which we wont know till closer to gametime.....see the last three threads, noone knows if he'll play, but fuk it! get him in- just in case a ball ricochets off him in the stands, and he gets the assist and 3 bonus. GET HIM, NO TIME TO WAIT, DO IT NOW!

Honest reply from a guy who traded out Berbatov the week he hit for 5 goals (useful, constant, painful reminder of my hubris):

Wait for Friday night news on RVP ... went off injured in his int'l game, probably not a serious thing, but wait on that trade. If 'guaranteed' to start, most would say he's necessary given his form and fixtures.

I'd be a bit concerned with Coleman's fitness ... didn't he get a knock this week? Not that you'd want to take a hit for a defender this week. Better to take a zero score than -2 when the new def gets scored on.
