How many of you have Coleman? Happy keeping or tempted to get rid? His GW1 score was flukey imo so I wanted to make a defenders chart excluding GW1 score, here it is:

    1.Baines 42
    2.Fonte 40
    3.Lovren 37
    4.Davies 35
    5.Terry 35
    6.Jagielka 32
    7.Reid 31
    8.Clyne 28
    9.Ridgewell 28
    10.Enrique 28
    11.Davies (Hull) 27
    12.Shawcross 27
    13.McAuley 26
    14.Walker 26
    15.Vertonghen 26
    16.Cameron 25
    17.Distin 25
    18.Coloccini 24
    19.Merte 24
    20.Zabaleta 24
    21.Evra 24
    22.Caulker 23
    23.Riether 23
    24.Huth 23
    25.Jones (WBA) 22
    26.Debuchy 22
    27.Dawson 22
    28.Wilson 21
    29.Santon 21
    30.Coleman 21

Couple of defs in this list got flukey in some other GW so not entirely truthful but tells the story of Coleman imo. My patience for him only got me 0.2M profit but maybe a good idea for a lot of you to bank the 0.3M? Or are you positive he will get the big score every now and then regularly enough? I don't have the stats so don't know how attacking he has been.

Chelsea defenders have one less game if you discount GW1 score. Either way, not sure I'd use points as a metric here with such a small sample size...

On the subject of Coleman, this is the worst time ever to sell. If he was ever going to get a clean sheet, it would be at home versus Hull. After that, I can see you wanting to move on, maybe a Swansea defender.

Bit unfair on Chelsea and Villa defenders sine they had 2 games in GW1. Coleman is an attacking full back, he'll pick up points even if they are flukey by just being there.

yeah bit unfair for ivanovic & cole. others wouldn't have made it to the list. i agree that attacking fullbacks tend to pick up points unregularly but maybe coleman has had a little bit too much attention by making his flukey score in GW1 keeping him many weeks on top of defenders chart at the beginning. now he's dropping slowly but surely and the bigger picture is unveiling imo.

I am pretty disappointed i got him in my wc just before GW 5. I ll downgrade him soon to a 4.5 - 5.0 defender and upgrade Eriksen (the 2nd disappointment so far) to Oscar or Hazard. It may be done this week for a hit. 5.6 is way too much even Shawcross is cheaper with more Bonus Points and attacking potential.

Much better than coleman? I beg to differ. Baines was an extra 2.5 to coleman whrn most of us got him. So I doubt 2.5 mill makes up for the 3 or 4 extra points baines got if u take out there best gws.

if you wanna be precise it's 6 points. since it's been only 7 gameweeks i'm gonna multiply that by ~5.43 making it 32.6 points for the season. given that baines is gonna score more and maybe get more points on his big GWs (16 vs 13) the difference might be closer to 40 even 50 points. yeah, much better i'd say.

Don't understand why you would label his GW1 score as flukey. He's got great threat on him and likes going forward more than almost any other def in the league. Every time I've seen him play I've been reassured keeping him is the right thing to do.

This really is a poor analysis. Most defenders will only score attacking points by fluke, so excluding his best GW and including the best GWs of his competition is not really fair. Considering his price tag, the fact that he is an attacking ful back in a team that has a decent chance to get a CS in any game makes me ignore your list completely 😉

i understand. i just think he has got way too much attention because of scoring big in GW1. he was on top on defs chart for weeks and got the 0.6M price rise.

if he would have scored big last GW, for example, maybe people would have paid more attention to his lack of bonus points during early GWs and not immedialtely transfer him in because he only made to top7 of defenders chart.

It's a bit unfair taking away his Gameweek 1 points. If your doing that then you might as well take out Gameweek 7's score (0) as I guess most people would have benched him against Man City. 21 points in 5 weeks isn't all that bad.

True. You don't actually buy players for all matches, you will only play them in some, and should count the points from those in which you play them.

In addition, I do not understand how Coleman's assist and goal were particularly flukey. Was in the box for both assist (a run through the box) and goal (running there for a loose ball and got it). That way you could say almost all points are flukey.

Maybe we should only count it when player dribbles through the whole field or scores from long range, and all other points are flukey. Except that almost all goals are scored from inside the box, and are not preceded by a dribble.

So, after all, perhaps getting goals by being positioned well for loose balls is something that FFP managers precisely should look for. What is more important is that Coleman has not been active offensively in that match only, he has produced as many shots on goal as Baines, only one key pass less, twice as many dribbles and despite crossing much less, he has also produced almost as many accurate crosses than Baines. He could well have produced another assist or a couple of them after the first match, and his next assist is just waiting to happen really.

But well, that argument aside, I advice all Coleman owners to sell him and buy Ferdinand in his stead.

by flukey i mean it was a rare event that does not happen consistently. he might not score again this season, no one knows. baines will, his history shows that. terry will score goals from a set pieces. but you can't know coleman will. before this season he played over 3200 min without scoring. so imo it was a bit flukey he got a goal straight away GW1 causing a big bandwagon.

The trend is nothing of similar, really. All bar Baines, Fonte and Terry would go below 21 points. So, Coleman is 4th highest scoring defender without the best match. From 30th to 4th there's a big difference.

Don't have time to do that count, but on the other hand counting the best scoring round out altogether is unfair towards defenders who get attacking returns, or in particular those who score goals, and favours strongly those who keep clean sheets. Sure, I like to play it safe too, and buy those who will keep clean sheets, but a forward going defender will eventually have some rounds where he will score extra points and you just have to figure out when it is. Currently Everton has good fixtures and it makes sense to have some of their defenders. Coleman's attacking threat seems quite similar to that of Baines', while his price (especially if you bought him some rounds ago), is much lower. So, it makes sense to still own him.

You also have to deduct a few points for goals conceded and add a point for each goal he scored. After making these adjustments, he would have scored 94 points in 26 games if he had been classed as a defender last season.

Am I the only one who feel Arsenal clean sheets are coming? Asides from the first match, they haven't let in more than 1 goal in any fixture. They're so close! Just like Everton last season before they went on a legendary clean sheet run.

The next two are really good opposition in terms of shots in the box and they certainly have the ability to limit their opponents' shots in the box in terms of quantity.

I hope Kosc is fit for the next two or I will be rather disappointed!

Lots of good thoughts and opinions in the last article when I asked if it was a waste not to use a transfer when you have 2FTs in your pocket.

The consensus is definitely to make a move, even if it's really minor.

So what would count as your most minor transfer ever? Was it when you had 2FTs and needed to use one? Did any actually pay off for you?

I think it's strange that a nation such as England has so few options when it comes to the balancing, defensive of the two (or three) central midfielders. In my mind really the only good option is Carrick. That's what I call lack of depth.

Milner is 'okay' for games like these and I use that term loosely. His tracking back will help ensure we don't lose.

But my God, we better not use him in anymore friendlies or games where winning is seen more of an objective than losing. Hasn't got the pace necessary for an international winger, nor the class.

Carrick can often be missing in the big games.

Classic Roy bowing down to the media by saying he may drop Jack now with all the shit stirring the papers have printed about him.

Great, playing Milner because he has to cover Walker's brainless runs where he inevitably loses the football. At least Baines provides quality attack from the other flank, I don't think he needs the same kind of cover.

No Baines certainly doesn't. Roy is just so cautious with his selections. Can see him going with the failed pairing of Gerrard and Lampard in midfield tonight in an archaic 4-4-2 system, where Milner is one of the wingers.

Don't mind Lamps in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1/4-5-1 we've played at times with Gerrard, albeit he does do next to nothing all game, as with an extra CM next to him it takes away the reliance on Lampard who does pop up with the odd goal.

Just really don't want to be going back to 2001 tactics where Lampard and Gerrard are starting together in a 4-4-2 system, it may be enough to scrape us through tonight, but it will probably mean we'll use it in the future at a more important time where it won't.

I don't grasp your point, firstly an injured player at any club unless his contract states otherwise is entilted to get paid whilst unable to play. Also for a player Dunnes age to return from such an injury and perform at the level he is says a lot about him. Many players never regain there previous levels even after only a year out.

He played at the Euros, got injured, missed a whole season and when he was finally fit, it was for Ireland again and we'd let him go. As Villa fans, we missed him.

Re the Coleman chat above: He has been very attacking and although, yes, it is possible to ignore his gw1 goal and make him look average, it is also possible to imagine he'd scored more/ got an assist or two since.

Look at last season when classified as a midfielder and try adding 4 points per clean sheet and you'll see he was excellent last season.

*3 points per clean sheet considering he still got 1 for a cleanie as a mid. Still pretty good numbers though. Played similar minutes to Cahill last season for example, but would have scored more with those extra clean sheet points.

Just realised he would have out scored Kompany as a defender last season and with less minutes too 😯

I'm avoiding Arsenal for captainage on the grounds that Norwich have actually been defensively solid away from home. Of all teams, they have conceded the fourth fewest shots in the box in away games. (Better than Southampton, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and United).

        Hull, Stoke, Spurs only though...

Spurs may looks like a decent team to keep shots down, but they couldn't even score against Palace and they still scored 2 against Norwich.

    Sturridge - Giroud - Lukaku

Continuing on from the Coleman chat above and for those that might have missed it:

Considering that Coleman was classified as a midfielder last season if you convert his stats to that of a defender (i.e. adding the 3 points for every cleanie he missed out on) he would have out scored the likes of Kompany, Ferdinand, Cahill & Verm with less minutes.

Also had a better points per minutes value than Vertonghen 😯

Could really use Williams being fit. Got 0.4 to upgrade Collins (only other def option is B. Turner) and can't see better than a 4.9 Swan.

Looking for a replacement for Collins. 5m max

    Can't look past Pieters atm.

Swansea leaky without Williams. Don't rotate with Soton (have Shaw) so Chico is not an option

    Anyone else i should consider?

After this week, Newcastle rotate okay-ish with Southampton and they haven't been as defensively bad at home as the goal record alone would suggest.

    Best trade here chaps?

    A) Nolan -> Barkley
    B) Nolan -> Arnie
    C) Sturridge -> Lukaku
    D) Save transfer

The first 3 options raise enough cash for Mirallas -> Walcott in GW9

    Boruc, Davis
    Baines, Zabaleta, Terry, Toure, Ward
    Michu, Ramsey, Mirallas, Nolan, Ravel
    Suarez, Sturridge, Giroud
