Once again, Saturday morning tempts you with a trio of overlooked alternatives for the weekend ahead. This time around, we have a couple of likely out of position contenders for your perusal, while England’s latest wing hero also makes an appearance.

Marko Arnautovic

Stoke’s summer signing arrives on the radar after a move up front boosted his potential in the previous Gameweek. Classified as a midfielder across the Fantasy games, Arnautovic was handed the chance to lead the line for the Potters’ trip to Fulham and while he failed to open his account for the season, the Austrian offered plenty to suggest that goals may just be around the corner.

Lauded as the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic after moving to Inter, Arnautovic has failed to realise his potential but there’s no doubt he brings a real touch of class to Mark Hughes’ side. Granted, Stoke’s toils in front of goal hardly make a persuasive case for our consideration but with seven attempts against the Cottagers, Arnautovic looks the likeliest to solve their attacking woes.

Coming in at 5.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), 4.9 in the Sky Sports game and 2.0 in the Sun Dream Team, Arnautovic has the perfect opportunity to endear himself to the Potters faithful as West Brom roll up to the Britannia this afternoon. With a mere 0.3% ownership in FPL, he’s firmly off Fantasy radars but could be an out of position contender worth considering for those looking for an alternative to the current midfield template.

Glen Johnson

Back in the Liverpool squad for the first time since Gameweek 3, Johnson’s return from injury happily coincides with a recent change in formation which is sure to increase his appeal. Providing Brendan Rodgers keeps faith in the 3-4-1-2 system which has harvested back-to-back wins, Johnson is expected to be installed on the right of the midfield four, with his raiding runs down the flanks providing plenty attacking menace.

A trip to Newcastle is the first in a hugely favourable run of fixtures, which also sees Rodgers’s side square up to the likes of West Brom, Fulham, Hull, Norwich, West Ham and Cardiff in the next 10 Gameweeks. Now down to just 5.7 from a 6.0 starting price in FPL (7.2 in the Sky Sports game and 5.0 in the Sun Dream Team,) Johnson’s out of position potential, allied with a resilience which has seen the Reds concede just five times so far, could well be highly profitable. Early adopters could well be rewarded for their foresight before the bandwagon begins to roll.

Andros Townsend

There’s no doubt the Tottenham wide man has the ability to frustrate. The statistics will show that Townsend’s penchant for a long-range effort has seen him register more efforts than any other midfielder so far but he’s managed just a single assist over six league starts for Andre Villas-Boas’ side.

Happily for his country, that tendency to try his luck from distance reaped reward over the international break and with his confidence sky-high, Townsend looks set to stave off the challenge of Aaron Lennon and Erik Lamela for Sunday’s trip to Villa Park. While the likes of Paulinho, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Christian Eriksen have proven popular midfield picks, Townsend (5.5 in FPL, 4.6 in the Sky Sports game and 2.5 in the Sun Dream Team,) will be hoping to bring his England form to the table as the north London outfit attempt to recover from the disastrous Gameweek 7 home defeat to West Ham. A strong display this weekend and Townsend could well cement another start as Hull come calling to the Lane next weekend.

Lukaku gives you less risk I think, as he is such a popular choice. Suarez could always be ridiculous, and I'm still grappling with not having him. Having Sturridge helps this though 🙂

Hmm. What to do with Ben Arfa? From Pardews quotes, something along the line of 'when he comes back, whenever that may be', doesnt sound like he will be back for the Liv game. No idea who to get in for him. Mirallas may be an option but dont want to go 3 Everton

Indeed. Have Barfa. Resisted getting rid so I have 2 FT next week. I've pulled myself over the line so I should have a load of options available next week.

Unless Barfa score a hat trick then my plans go to waste!!!!!

As I see it you could:

      1. Bench Mert (Arsenal usually find a way to concede a goal),
      2. Bench Barkley (you have Baines and Lukaku)
      3. Trade Ramsey for someone like Pilkington (NOR have decent fixtures coming up)
      4. Keep and play Ramsey - he's the third highest scoring player in the game.

If I were you I would go 4.

    Repost on last page:

Use FT to hedge potential doubt/rotation this week?

Players that may not play this week:
    Ferdinand (doubt)
    Chambers (wouldn't play)
    Ramsey (rotation)
    Brady (recover from injury)

So should I replace one of them? The whole squad is:

    Mig - Boruc
    Zaba - Coleman - Ferdinand - Fonte - Chambers
    Ozil - Yaya - Barkley - Brady - Ramsey
    Lukaku - Giroud - Sturridge

    4.8m in bank.

    Thanks a lot.

Giroud owner. His run of no goals has coincided with Walcott being out injured.

Thinking about this more, Walcott in the team stretches defences or makes them sit deep allowing other players more room. Walcott out allows defences to push up and squeeze space a bit more as there is no real other pacy attacking threat to get in behind, certainly not Giroud. Think Giroud benefits from someone like Walcott who can get to the byline and create chances from there.

    Did a quick stats analysis
    Giroud with Wally: 4 games, 4.5 shots/game, 3.5 shots in box/game, 4 goals
    Giroud w/o Wally: 3 games, 3 shots/game, 2 shots in box/game, 0 goals

Had him as captain last night but tempted to change now

Interesting thought, seems sound logic, but I really think he will benefit from Özil's presence regardless of Walcott, but I do share your analysis of the effect of Theo's absence.

Interesting, here was me thinking his goals dried up because I brought him in to my team... 😉

I just hope that he doesn't continue to have a negative affect on Wally's output when he gets back... or maybe the two sets of data are not interlinked, and that was just Wally getting unlucky with all his chances...

I see your point, but he also said he had been training well for the last ten days. No international duty. And all Pardew wanted was to show him that he had to give everything for the club, and if not he would be benched. And now he has proved his point.

      Giroud.

      - Great fixture
      - Norwich's leaky defence
      - Home game
      - Lone striker with plenty of talent to feed him
      - If I'm not wrong, Cazorla's back and could very well start

Currently have the armband on Giroud, but really tempted by Lukaku. I think I'll leave it as it is though.

The real question here is, Who are YOU captaining Jonty? 🙂

I guess there is a case for Suarez , playing against a Newcastle side with Coloccini and Saylor.......I have Suarez as well as Gru and Lukaku 😆 But for some odd reason, I'm trying to stay away from captaining Suarez.....

What do you reckon, Giroud vs Lukaku?

I normally go with my gut in weeks like this. Unfortunately the spidey sense is not much help this morning.

Suarez looks a good option, Liverpool destroyed them 6-0 last season, Toon's defence is missing Coloccini, SAS are in devastating form.

Crikey, after typing all that out I have convinced myself. Suarez it is! 😀

Struggling to choose between lukaku and giroud. Giroud is the safe pick, most likely to get attacking points this IMO. But lukaku has the explode potential..

No takers for Michu? Surely he's just as good a C option as Suarez..what's your rationale for Suarez over Michu, Jonty?

I honestly have NO idea who I'm gonna captain as Michu Giroud and Suarez are very valid options. I just feel I'm gonna screw this one up. (also have Rooney)

Tough to call this week, but I'm going Suarez.
He loves playing Newcastle and the Toon will have a makeshift defense up against the in-form SAS

Due to the leaky and further depleted Geordie back line, I would probably have gone for Suarez. However,I have Sturridge too, so will probably diversify a bit and go with Lukaku.

armband was briefly on Lukaku this morning but back on Suarez now.

On form I think they are about equal so the decision is based on 2 things that benefit Suarez.

      1. Quality of defense they are coming up against - Hull have a great attitude and show decent resilience away from home.
      2. ownership - Suarez is a better differential if the choice comes off.

I'm still struggling after flitting back and forth all week. Front 3 is Giroud/Sturridge/Lukaku. All 3 have good fixtures, all 3 are on form. Impossible!

I think I'll probably go with Lukaku. I struggle to see Everton scoring without Lukaku being involved. With Giroud/Sturridge, their team could easily win big without them - i.e. Ozil/Cazorla/Ramsey and Suarez/Gerrard/Coutinho.

Not convinced though - please convince me!

2 - Go with your gut, you'll kick yourself if he does well and you didn't 'listen' to yourself

Captain Choices are causing me headache.

    Sturridge .. 2 goals + 2 assists in last 3 games
    .. 3 goals + 2 assists from 3 away games this season

Giroud .. 1 assist in last 3 games
.. 2 goals from 3 home games this season

    Lukaku .. 4 goals + 1 assist in last 3 games
.. just started last 2 matches, but impressive

    Who are you going with?
