The FA have confirmed that Wayne Rooney will serve a two-match ban.

Rooney had previously admitted the charge for the use of offensive, insulting and / or abusive language at Upton Park last weekend, but the striker argued that the two game penalty was unfair.

The charge has immediate effect and Rooney will now miss Manchester United’s next two matches: Saturday’s Premier League clash against Fulham and their FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City. The forward is hot property at the moment in the Fantasy Premier League which he demonstrated by scoring a hat-trick in the aforementioned game with West Ham. He continued his sublime form last night by netting the only goal during the 1-0 Champions League victory over Chelsea.

United have released this statement:

“Manchester United is clearly very disappointed with the Regulatory Commission’s decision. The Club put forward a very strong case to have the punishment reduced, which was unsuccessful. Wayne Rooney apologised immediately after the match and the Club now wishes to move to on to what hopefully will be a very exciting conclusion to the season.”

Fantasy Managers will now have to consider the impact on United’s lineup against Fulham – presumably this will see a start for Dimitar Berbatov who was benched for last night’s Champions League victory, while Javier Hernandez would also seem set to retain his starting role if Alex Ferguson goes with a 4-4-2. Short-term interest in both could therefore increase as a result.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

I suspect this decision is going to make or break my season.I'm level at the top of my mini league. Arguements for and against Lamps are both pretty good. Although, if the DGW wasn't looming I wouldn't consider him for a second. Its the most difficult decision this season for me, but I'm leaning against getting him.
AB, how will you cover Chelsea for the DGW is you don't get Lamps?

no idea, have luiz now, looking at drogba, lamps or punts on malouda, torres, ivanovic or zhirkov to supplement it. if zhirkov can hold down a place for just 2 matches he's a chelsea defender playing left wing, great prospect. all depends just how much faith ancelotti has lost in malouda

but chelsea against the lower teams are much more likely to get a penalty than the other teams as the likelihood is they will be on the attack alot more

penalty or 30yard screamer, the end result is still 5points

probably true. i understand the penalty draw, and chelsea do seem to win more than most. i made a point earlier in the week that penalties should be a bonus imo, i.e would you buy the player anyway if they weren't on penalties? for example i'd buy rvp, rooney or baines if they weren't on penalties. right now i wouldn't even think about lampard without penalties.
also my problem is not anyone buying lampard, just anyone claiming he's anything near essential

i think it is a fair comment to say that the most consistent performer in FPL who got 20 goals last season and the most assists in the league and who has averaged 7ppg in the last 7 games and is about to embark on possibly the kindest runo of fixtures possible is essential over the next 3 weeks

anyway your call, but hes got the captains armband for me until may barring injury

I have no idea what to do this week. With my one free transfer and £0.2m in the bank, I could dump Kolarov or Tevez but I don't know who to (I have RVP).

I'm not fancying Chelsea forwards, so I'm thinking Bent or Suarez as Tevez replacements; this would allow me to bring in Adam for Barton next week (and bench Kolarov).

Or instead getting rid of the pesky Kolarov to allow an Adam transfer in (£4.9m or less defender needed), but I have no clue...

What are people's thoughts on the following for a 4 point hit?

    Rooney -> Welbeck
    Bale -> Lampard
    Huth -> Luiz

I'd probably bring Rooney back in for Tevez next week.

I'm just SO unsure about Sunderland, I know that is easy to say after they've just lost 5-0, but they really are massively off form. Something like no win in the last 7 games and they haven't really been scoring at all...That's my hesitation over Welbeck, but I guess I wouldn't have typed any of that if I'd brought him in which I almost did...

If you don't have Adam then maybe bring in DJ instead of Welbeck?

    This week...

    Foster
    Luiz - Dawson - Smalling
    Lampard(c) - Nani - VDV - OHara - Adam
    RVP - Welbeck

    Begovic - Walker - Rooney - Bramble

Have 2 free transfers and seems a waste to not use one....so thinking,

    Rooney to Drogba? Thoughts?

Kingson and Baptiste could play at home until 2020 and still not get you a clean sheet between them.

what you've done is construct a team around doubles but not thought more long term. I know there's only a few weeks left, but is it really worth getting Dempsey(man utd - blank) now. Also nasri with fabs and RVP in the team =2pts.

Is drogba really going to play twice in the double? Bent would be better. Also with rooney you will want him back I'll wager.

Back to drawing board...and have a look at the scout tips in the right hand column.

was thinking rooney back in the for the everton game

obv dempsey and baird won't play till gw 34 - will do double transfer that week (inc rooney) plus bring them off bench

nasri is a bit of a worry yes, been thinking about walcott instead would free up a bit of cash. not been that convinced about fabregas role - might actually drop down to just RVP from arsenal

kingson wont get clean sheet but will get save points - not that keen on any keeper right now!

sounds like a lot of planning and points hits. If the unexpected happens - which it will - your plan will be in tatters.

              Try something like this perhaps
              Foster - Bergovic
              Luiz - Baines/man utd def/arsenal def - Walker - Samba - bham defender
Lamps - Adam - Walcott - Ohara or other cheapy - Downing
              RVP - Bent - Wellbeck/dudley campbell/Hoilet

    Lost on last page sorry!
I’ve come up with 2 plans. I know they never work out but i’m determined to try and stick to it as much as possible. Plan 1 is my ideal scanrio but i’m not confident on Nanis game time.
Plan 2 I love the front 3 but i take alot of hits for it to happen.
    What do you think?

Right you lot, this is my second season and i'm 60 points ahead of my nearest rival and have made three changes for -4 to get the following team

    Foster
    Smalling Coleman Dawson
    Nasri Young Nani Adam Lampard
    Van Persie Bent

    Subs Zigic Shawcross Simpson

Is it worth going -8 to get Luiz? I think Smalling will start on this weekend as Rio will be rested. Still undecided on captain, reckon i will go Van Persie. Cheers, great site...

I am reliably informed that in the past 3 years, Chelsea have been denied 10 penalties in the CL round that they have been ultimately knocked out in - assuming that we go on to be defeated by Utd.

    Chelsea-Barcelona, 2009:

    1. Florent Malouda and Dani Alves tussle and Malouda goes down just inside the area down the Chelsea left. Referee Tom Henning Ovrebo of Norway gives a free-kick to the Blues right on the edge - if it's a foul, it's a penalty.

    2. Nicolas Anelka goes down under a challenge from Yaya Toure and the Chelsea fans think it should be a penalty, but a goalkick is given.

    3. Gerard Pique is a bit lucky to get away with that - Nicolas Anelka dinks the ball around the defender and it hits his arm, but nothing given. Probably should have been a penalty, that.

4.Didier Drogba fastens on to another ball into the Barca area and falls under a challenge from Eric Abidal, who does have some of the Ivorian's shirt in his left hand. Seen them given - another Chelsea goal and this is all over.

    5. The ball falls to Michael Ballack 12 yards out and he hits a screaming left-foot volley that catches Samuel Eto'o one his arm. Ballack wants a penalty and is booked for his protests.

Chelsea-Inter (over the two legs), 2010:

    1. How on earth is that not a penalty? Salomon Kalou races into the Inter box down the right and as he prepares to pull the trigger, Walter Samuel treads all over the back of his legs. It's a 100% penalty, end of. But referee Manuel Enrique Mejuto Gonzalez, astonishingly, waves play on.

    2. Chelsea's turn to attack ends with big shouts for a penalty when Florent Malouda runs into Lucio in the box. To be fair to Lucio, he couldn't really get out of the way. Referee Wolfgang Stark waves play on in any case.

    3. Extraordinary scenes from the resulting corner, which is delayed while Julio Cesar receives treatment. When the ball comes across, Walter Samuel wrestles Didier Drogba to the ground, in clear view of referee Wolfgang Stark. It should be a stonewall penalty, but nothing is given.

    Chelsea-Man Utd, 2011:

I'm sure you all remember, no need to revisit it with BBC commentary.

    UEFA - you're a f*cking joke.

Something must be up when you're denied 10 (at least 7 of which were as clear as daylight) penalties in just three years. Every single season we are f*cked over by the referees, whether it's not being given penalties, Liverpool scoring phantom goals, Del Horno being sent off thanks to Messi cheating, Drogba being sent off for a non-tackle on Victor Valdez....

It's about time someone exposed the UEFA conspiracy against Chelsea.

I know you won't agree, but I honestly think United were the better team last night player for player, when you can say that about any game, and that team wins, I don't think you can argue about hypotheticals, well you can, but it's a pointless excercise.

Your argument can be made on the basis that penalties should have been given last night and in pervious campaigns, the same can be said for cards/offsides etc, UEFA/FIFA/FA officials make mistakes, last night a penalty should of been given, there are also strong arguments in favour of saying Ramires/Essien should of seen red for challenges (double yellows), for Ferdinands behaviour towards Torres and the high boot, but in the end, it happened, the horses have bolted, humans are imperfect, the system will never be foolproof, unless you suggest robotic officials, and even on that basis a T-101 official is not something I want to see in a human game (see Battlestar Galactica - they take over when we start messing like that)

that should read "and" Ferdinands behaviour etc, you can make arguments and build cases on the most tenuous of points, but in the end, it happened, and sh*t happens, and to err is human. All fans can say they were cheated out of results as a result of particular officiating errors, it's what balances it all out.

Fully agree that Utd were the better side last night, and after 90 minutes I was prepared to come on here and admit that fact, but us being denied yet another clear penalty was just too much for me.

I still have absolutely no idea what this Essien/Ramires argument is all about. Did they make bad tackles after they'd already been booked?

straightforward enough for Essien, late and high footed tackle on Rooney in the first half - no card and then a late tackle on Carrick in the second half.

As for Ramires, I think he could of easily been booked for a late challenge on Rooney in the first half also, but wasn't and then got booked for fouling Evra.

My point is, there are grounds to argue both, but, they didn't, so there is no point in me as a United fan complaining about it, a red card would of changed the game much before the penalty claim, and in a parallel universe following the red card, who knows if that penalty incident would have occurred.

I saw Source Code the other night, disappointing **

The major flaw, as I suspected, in both arguments is that the second tackles from Essien and Ramires most probably wouldn't have happened if they had already been booked.

I am not a Chelsea fan, but I have to agree. It's a bit of a joke really. The refereeing is APPALLING in the champions league. The Ramires foul last night was completely clear-cut. And for those saying this is justice for the most recent league encounter between the two, it really isnt. The Champions League is in knock-out phase, and that goal will really cost them.

That said, it definitely isnt impossible to overturn the 1-0 loss. They will need to bring their A game to O.T. (i.e. start Anelka and Drogba)

There is an equivalent list, LONG LIST, of decisions that have gone chelsea's way over the last 7 years in just the Utd games, i won't bother cracking it out again though. I imagine in all competitions the list would be ridiculous. To claim there is a uefa conspiracy based purely in decisions that have gone against chelsea is utterly laughable. Yes they had 1 dodgy decision against them last night, but considering what happened only a few weeks ago in the corresponding league fixture, you have to take it on the chin and realise it evens itself out in the end.

If I were a chelsea fan i'd be far more worried by the team's standard of play rather than the ref. They were dreadful last night.

Realise that 60 points aint that great a lead but i reckon it could force my nearest rival into some serious mistakes. It will make the run in much more intersesting...

Do it, then when he overtakes you he'll feel even better about it.

Id you've made good transfers it's probably smart to let your opponents know, as they will have to try for differentials that most of the time won't work.

disagree- at least for a veteran like myself. If i know they have someone, alot of the time ill get them too- counting on the rest of my team to do the business.

When one can master that tactic, THIS, is when you become a true fantasy jedi Warrior

Is it not better to crush ones rival by taunting them before the decisive blow?

I've seen a few bad guys try that in James Bond films. Doesn't usually work out too well... 😉

That's probably the best move, I wouldn't bet in A steaming pile of poo's rivals to know it though.

What if they make a move that's just not possible for your team without dismantling your "business" squad?

    Looking for feedback:

Should I go with Kevin Phillips, Junior Hoilett or Sylvan Ebanks-Blake?

SEB. as far as i know hoillet is out on the wing and he's from the jermain defoe school of head down and whack it finishing.

Thanks Bonkers...that's the impression I got. haven't had a chance to see him much this season...just hope I don't run into one of the two times his broke clock is right.

I need to look into Zigic's fitness/favor more before exploring Phillips.

Anyone know who replaced Beausejour in the midfield for Birm.? He seems like the only non-striker that can score for them.

new tweet has just come up casting doubts over zigic and martins' fitness. good in the short term for phillips but i don't think you can bank on him gettign enough starts to make him a better option than SEB and hoilett
