Blackburn managed to tame the Premier League’s second top scorers Arsenal on home soil this weekend- frustrating Arsene Wenger’s men at the Emirates with a determined display. Although Steve Kean’s men perch just 2 points above the relegation zone, with strong confident performances like Saturday’s and a fairly promising run of fixtures to come (BIR eve MCY BOL whm MUN wol) – Rovers look likely to steer themselves out of trouble.

It is surely no coincidence that their first clean-sheet in four games corresponded with the Phil Jones’ first start since mid-December. The highly praised England U21 starlet had been on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury against West Ham, but his re-emergence in the holding midfield role seems to be the calming influence that Blackburn have missed.

The combination of a newfound defensive confidence, good fixtures and a need for points, give Rovers players plenty of Fantasy potential, with Jones looking a worthy consideration once more having first caught the eye on breaking into the side early in the season.

Although listed as a defender on the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Jones often plays in a deeper central midfield role. Yet to score or assist in this season, Jones is nonetheless and influential figure who has threatened the opponents goal when pushing forward. Priced at a mere 4.2 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Jones would slot nicely into any Fantasy defence and offers increased creativity and goal threat in a more advanced role, in addition to clean-sheet potential.

Rovers’ captain Chris Samba is certainly a big fan of Jones and what he brings to the Rovers effort…

β€œIt is a great boost to have Jonesy back. We are going to need his enthusiasm, his character. He is a player who has that fire and never lets anything go, in any situation. He may be a young player but I think he is important for us, as are all the other young players. Now it is about who wants more to stay in this league. He is someone who works hard and never stops. He never stops running and I think he is sort who can go and make a tackle and the others will follow in his example.”

Samba is not the only one to notice Jones’ importance, the FPL Bonus Judges have thrown 9 points his way so far this term and last season, in just 9 appearances he grabbed a total of 7. The odd Bonus Point may not seem like much but, as the season draws to a close, such points can make the difference, particularly if clean sheets continue to be hard to come by within our Fantasy rearguards.

Holding an ownership of just 2.1%, Jones also offers excellent β€œdifferential” capabilities ahead of a run of three home matches in four for Rovers. While Samba (5.1) holds a higher ranking in our Watchlist with a significant goal threat, Jones is a cut-price solution that, coupled with cheap defensive options like Villa’s Kyle Walker, offers strong fixtures with a hint of attacking promise. Crucially, that helps to liberate funds for investment elsewhere in our squads at a time when double gameweek heavyweights look tempting.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

Got lost / ignored in previous topic.

Really struggling with my forward 8. It comes down to:

    1.Adam Nani Young/VDV Lampard (N’Zogbia)
    Gyan Persie Berbatov
    (2 free transfers)

    2.Adam Nani Young/VDV Lampard Walcott
    (Hoilett) Persie Berbatov
    (4 point hit)

    3.Adam Nani Young VDV (N’Zogbia)
    11m Striker / Persie Berbatov
    (1 free transfer)

I’m thinking about 2 at the moment; it looks so good. Are there any good reasons for 1 or 3? Thx

You need Lampard so 3 is out.

So essentially it's a choice between:

      (VDV/Young), N'zog, Gyan (2 frees)
      &
(VDV/Young), Walcott, Hoilett (4 pt hit)

Option 1 all day long for me with VDV over young.

    Nice write up JF.

Phil Jones is a bit, bluegh, for me really. I seemed to have him for weeks and weeks earlier this season and was left more or less disappointed every week. As far as OOP players go, he doesn't really cut the mustard. I'd much rather have secret striker Chris Samba.

On the other hand, I'm still sitting with Martin Kelly in my team. If I can scrounce an extra .1m from somewhere he's be a decent enough replacement, if only even for bench-fodder.

Could be a decent punt, he's got a great record in the home games. Although Fulham isn't a particularly easy game, and Berba's best scores have all come with Rooney in the team.

RVP's record this season has been far better than Lampard's. I'd also expect Arsenal to score more goals at Blackpool than we will at home to Wigan.

No offence, but it would take far too long for anyone to fully process all the details on that document, and I doubt anyone can really be bothered.

Also, making a plan all the way up to week 38 isn't the most useful of excerises (although it may be fun). So much can change between now and then. I struggle to even stick to a two week transfer plan.

        Jamsiep,

You may or may not remember me posting (MartinB) about wanting to swap Wenger with Mourinho the day after Arsenal beat Barcelona at home. You mentioned the post as being an embarrassment, I responded merely suggesting that I was being realistic. At that stage we were supposedly on for four trophies, but Wenger is no longer the right manager for Arsenal. At what stage will the majority of Arsenal fans finally realise that he has been found out and does not know how to win trophies anymore.

He should have been out 3 years ago and that was after 3 trophyless years.

From my comments 6 weeks ago this is obviously not a knee-jerk reaction, but I do remember being labelled an embarrassment and my sentiments are being proven.

I'd love to eat humble pie on this one. Paying £50 a game I want that league trophy, as does everyone. With £3m a game in gate receipts it really is time for him to buy some World Class players or let someone else take the reigns.

The board have to take responsibility (and this is the killer part of my argument). While the club continues to make money by qualifying for the champs lge year in year out, they have no reason to sack him. The problem is that there isn't the ambition to really go for it as they would have to put their profits on the line in order to try to win a trophy and that unfortunately isn't the main objective.

Ridiculously frustrating as an Arsenal fan though and I still feel that i'm in the minority on this one yet SIX years without winning anything is really poor.

Guys I could really do with some assistance in getting fat lamps into my team, thinking rooney or tevez out, then either vdv / nasri / barton?

    Foster, Begovic,
Kelly, R Johnson, Luiz, Kolarov, Coleman
    Nasri, Nani, Adam, VDV, Barton,
    Rooney, Tevez, RVP

    1.1m in the bank

    So…

A, Rooney, VDV, Kolarov > Bent, Lamps, Dawson
B, Rooney, Nani > Bent, Lamps
C, Rooney, Barton > Welbeck, Lamps

    Any other ideas?

On my 2nd Wildcard, so far it looks like this

    Mignolet (Foster)
    Luiz, Terry, Walker, (Collins), (RJohnson)
    VDV, Nani, Walcott, Adam, Lampard
    Welbeck, Bent, RVP

I'm assuming Collins will replace Higginbotham for Stoke and is just there for the DGW in 34 and as an emergency on the last day of the season. Man City & Spurs players to come in after GW34.

Any ideas on Welbeck or Adam for this GW? Is Sturridge a better option that Welbeck?

He's a decent option for the price, I wonder how many will bother though with only 7 weeks left. It's tough enough finding freebies to cover the doubles / injuries / bans, I can't see many people bringing him in other than to dowgrade a defender for Lampard.

Very frustrating time. Suddenly good picks like Nani, VDV and Nasri have question marks over them. A double game week approaches for Chelsea but none of their strikers looks appealing and those playing twice the week after have a blank bfore. Very frustrating.

The end of the season looks like picking those that are guarenteed starts with good fixtures. This is why Bent appeals to me more than Drogba or Torres.

I think this is absolutely perfect, land of opportunity time.
For chaps like me chasing near 100 points in minileagues - if the old reliables like Nani, VDV Nasri etc kept racking up the points I'd have no chance. Now it makes them think, stick or twist? Which player to gamble on? Etc.

    Cech
    Luiz Dawson Smalling
    Lampard Nani VDV Fabregas
    RVP Wellbeck Carroll

    Harper Adam Walker Baird

Or shall I save it and just do it next week as part of 2/3 transfers?!

Just wondered how many people on here had girlfriends/fiancees/wives/boyfriends etc that you are constantly trying to had goal flashes and updates from at the weekend?

I've really started to get into football a lot more these past couple years and I feel my knowledge of the game and the surrounding players has improved drastically. With fantasy football and my iphone now, I get constant goal alerts etc whilst I'm with my girlfriend (who can not stand football). Hence I feel like a massive loser whenever I cheer a player she has and will never know/remember the name of. Mostly I just can't contain my excitement at everything that happens so I end up looking a complete pillock.

Anybody else feel like they try and sneak a peek at the scores all weekend to try and keep some form of credibility/respect from their partner?
