Blackburn managed to tame the Premier League’s second top scorers Arsenal on home soil this weekend- frustrating Arsene Wenger’s men at the Emirates with a determined display. Although Steve Kean’s men perch just 2 points above the relegation zone, with strong confident performances like Saturday’s and a fairly promising run of fixtures to come (BIR eve MCY BOL whm MUN wol) – Rovers look likely to steer themselves out of trouble.

It is surely no coincidence that their first clean-sheet in four games corresponded with the Phil Jones’ first start since mid-December. The highly praised England U21 starlet had been on the sidelines after suffering a knee injury against West Ham, but his re-emergence in the holding midfield role seems to be the calming influence that Blackburn have missed.

The combination of a newfound defensive confidence, good fixtures and a need for points, give Rovers players plenty of Fantasy potential, with Jones looking a worthy consideration once more having first caught the eye on breaking into the side early in the season.

Although listed as a defender on the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Jones often plays in a deeper central midfield role. Yet to score or assist in this season, Jones is nonetheless and influential figure who has threatened the opponents goal when pushing forward. Priced at a mere 4.2 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Jones would slot nicely into any Fantasy defence and offers increased creativity and goal threat in a more advanced role, in addition to clean-sheet potential.

Rovers’ captain Chris Samba is certainly a big fan of Jones and what he brings to the Rovers effort…

“It is a great boost to have Jonesy back. We are going to need his enthusiasm, his character. He is a player who has that fire and never lets anything go, in any situation. He may be a young player but I think he is important for us, as are all the other young players. Now it is about who wants more to stay in this league. He is someone who works hard and never stops. He never stops running and I think he is sort who can go and make a tackle and the others will follow in his example.”

Samba is not the only one to notice Jones’ importance, the FPL Bonus Judges have thrown 9 points his way so far this term and last season, in just 9 appearances he grabbed a total of 7. The odd Bonus Point may not seem like much but, as the season draws to a close, such points can make the difference, particularly if clean sheets continue to be hard to come by within our Fantasy rearguards.

Holding an ownership of just 2.1%, Jones also offers excellent “differential” capabilities ahead of a run of three home matches in four for Rovers. While Samba (5.1) holds a higher ranking in our Watchlist with a significant goal threat, Jones is a cut-price solution that, coupled with cheap defensive options like Villa’s Kyle Walker, offers strong fixtures with a hint of attacking promise. Crucially, that helps to liberate funds for investment elsewhere in our squads at a time when double gameweek heavyweights look tempting.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

Any Chelsea fans think Ramires is a better option then Lampard for the DGW? He got into attacking positions more then Lampard yesterday, to be honest, im not sure what the point of Lampard was last night.

No. Although in an ideal world, my Chelsea team would be:

      Cech
      Ivanovic Luiz Terry Cole
      Ramires Essien
      Kalou Anelka Malouda
      Torres

hate anelka in that position, understand why people, including you and db, would like him there but i hate it. his nonchalence when he drops deep and passes it on masks the fact he's zero threat there imo. if i was a defender i would laugh at seeing anelka deep.

Still their closest chance came from him though...he should have scored 2. He may play deep, but he always ends up in the right place, bizarre really.

If you're looking for value for money then Ramires will be better I think but with Lampard you get the captaincy factor, which is big. And the bigger chance of a huge score.

Ramires is a bit like Kolarov. There's no doubt that he will rip up one day and bring in 15-20 points, but it could be really frustrating waiting for that day.

Have been impressed with him lately, though. If I didn't have the footballing legend that is TORRES, I'd think about it.

Im thinking the same, what has he really done to prove he's worth it? And it's not like Chelsea are banging in the goals. I would basically be getting rid of two of Nani, VDV, Young just so i can get Lampard in.

Yeah, I've lost (losing) VDV and Nani for Lampard. I'm fine with it, even a bit excited.

In fact, I feel just as I did before getting Fabregas in during December-ish, and that was a great success. 🙄 That's not stopping me.

Both options include Lampard+Luiz for Silva+Kolarov. At the moment, I'm thinking it all depends on the Nani situation.

    A) Keep Rooney and transfer do Nani+Huth->Adam+Walker(-8 hit)
    B) Keep Nani and transfer do Rooney->Gyan(-4 hit)

yeh, as I need to downgrade either Rooney or Nani to get both Lampard and Luiz in.

I'm leaning towards gyan but looking at gyan's recent form and West Brom's improving form, I might go with a different striker for 7m or less.

cant touch any chelsea fwd right now as none are assured of starts and all are out of form.

thats why Lampard is such a strong option, because of the unscertaintly of the fwds situation.

Drogba was the most effective last night but was taken off so that Torres could score a goal, which looks less and likely with each game he plays!

I reckon there will be some kind of trend on what mins each forward gets. If that makes sense in Drogba, Toprres and Anelka you have 3 big egos that need satisfying and i'm sure carlo rotates it fairly

‘Manchester United are not very good this season…’
    hmmm...

So, as we sit on the edge of the Champions League semi finals (again), the FA Cup semi final, and are seven points clear at the top of the table with seven games to go, lets have a little appraisal shall we ?

We’ve won the most games in the league.
We’ve scored the most goals in the league.
We have the top scorer in the league in Berbatov.
We have three players in the top six goalscorers in the league.
We have the top assist player in the league in Nani.
Nani, with assists and goals combined is the most effective player in the league. (regardless of the dumbass PFA voting)
We have won 14 out of 15 League home games this season.
We have yet to concede an away goal in the Champions League.
We’ve conceded one goal in the FA Cup.

I am a lifelong UTD supporter but I think this team (and its not the best UTD team ever how do you define that?) deserves a bit more praise from fans and media alike.

Dont expect it any time soon though!

The team on paper definitely can look weak at times a fully fit first 11 is decent.

I really don't care about the stats, as I'm sure another list shows how bad we have been this season in some places. But yes as you said the team deserves some credit for it and mostly Sir Alex. Here's is an article which I thought described the situation at united this season pretty well http://inbedwithmaradona.com/manchester-united-alexander-the-great/

Is Chelsea attacking coverage essential this week? I only have Luiz from Chelsea at present, and whilst I want Lampard, I'd need to lose one of these (Nani, Fabs, Young, VDV, Nasri) and take a hit to get him. Not worth it is it?

Newcastle has a lot of midfield injuries which means Walker might have a chance at a clean sheet, but Tottenham's Defense is really hurting right now which means when Stoke eventually do get into final third for a set piece, Huth has a chance at points. I'd go with Huth that being said despite awful away form. Even if stoke get crushed there is the likelihood of Huth points.

Barton Fabregas Yaya Toure VdV Nani
    Van Persie Tevez Odemwingie

    1.6M in the bank.

    1) Kolorov to Luiz sound a good move?

    2) Who should I start this weekend out of Coleman, Yaya and Barton??

    3) Anyone think of any transfer I could take for a hit. Wanted to bring in Adam and Lampard but should I wait a week perhaps?

when i read stuff like this, i worry more and more about getting lamps... he really has a chance of being rested as i was saying earleir

    Chelsea v Wigan 1500

Chelsea are expected to put their Champions League quarter-final setback against Manchester United behind them with a victory over rock-bottom Wigan on Saturday but with their title ambitions all but over, you have to wonder how many changes Carlo Ancelotti will make to his starting line-up. Europe's premier competition is the Blues' last realistic hope of glory this season and with a 1-0 deficit to overturn in next Tuesday's second leg at Old Trafford, the Italian could opt to rest a few of his key men. Whatever team he puts out should be well capable of picking up three points but it would make backing the likes of Fernando Torres, Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou in the various goalscoring markets rather unwise. On current form you probably wouldn't want to side with any of their strikers anyway, especially at such short prices. Chelsea are a best of 2/9 to beat a Latics side who have not won on the road in the league since a 3-2 triumph over Wolves on Boxing Day and their chances of ending that run on Saturday are slim. That said, Roberto Martinez's men were able to frustrate Tottenham in a goalless draw at the DW Stadium last weekend while they only lost 1-0 against Man City in their previous away game. Overall, we can't see beyond a home win but there is no bet that stands out for us.

When Lamps was on his run of 150+ consecutive PL games (when he also played in the League Cup and FA Cup games under Mourinho), he said that he's more likely to get injured if he doesn't play every week - resting him was counter-productive.

He was younger then, I suppose, but I doubt he'll be rested.

B)Fabs> Walcott( Fabs has yet to impress!)
    C)Rooney > little pea/carroll etc…

    what do you think?

You should be keeping Rooney and Fabs anyway, Nani will play this weekend in my view and he LOVES playing at home, so never bet against a haul.

As many have pointed out here today it is not beyond the realm of possibility for Lampard to be rested at the weekend so it would be a real kicker to ship either Nani/Rooney or Fabs only for him to not play. I know Rooney doesn't play but fact is you will want him back next week and you will also want further DGW players most likely, so two transfers on getting him out and back in is a waste at this point of the season (depending on where you are in mini leagues too of course).

How about Silva OUT Adam IN and try and downgrade elsewhere to fund Lampard move next week? Hard to advise without seeing full time, hence why people don't respond.
