Injuries

Kenny Dalglish this morning confirmed that Steven Gerrard has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

After successfully undergoing surgery last month, Gerrard suffered a setback in training ahead of last weekend’s clash with West Brom. The full extent of the injury will be assessed, but Dalglish has established that his skipper will certainly miss the remaining weeks of the campaign.

Gerrard had been struggling with a groin injury for some time and it now appears that Liverpool will be without the influential midfielder for the rest of this term. His absence will come as a great blow to Liverpool Football Club as well as his loyal Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership of 6.3%. The Reds’ captain has had a stuttering season, with niggling injuries allowing him to make just 21 Premier League appearances and fetch 88 FPL points.

The likely candidate to fill Gerrard’s shoes is youngster Jay Spearing. Dalglish seems extremely fond of the Liverpool lad who has consecutively played 90 minutes in the side’s last two Premier League games. King Kenny also trusted him to start the ever feisty Liverpool Derby, back in January. Priced at just 4.5 on the FPL games, Spearing could offer a budget option with assist potential. A current 0.0% ownership shows he also offers fantastic “differential†potential.

The likely lads – Dirk Kuyt and Raul Meireles – will of course have to increase their attacking burden over the end of season run-in and could well be worth a place in your side. Kuyt will now be on spot-kicks, whilst Meireles should handle set-pieces and corners. Kuyt has scored 8 (including the memorable hat-trick against old foes United) and assisted on 6 occasions. Whilst Meireles has been something of a goal scoring machine over the second half of the season and during January and February he found the back of the net 5 times in 6 games – for 3 of the 5 games he scored in, Gerrard was absent.

The Bonus Points which are traditionally sent Gerrard’s way will also be up for grabs. Luis Suarez has picked up 7 in 5 Premier League starts and should see more head his way over the remaining 7 games. Although failing to find any since his big money switch, whilst still at Newcastle Andy Carroll grabbed 18. If he finds any form over the next few weeks, he could be worth a look-in.

Liverpool’s fixtures are certainly worth bearing in mind (MCY ars BIR NEW ful TOT) – they face 3 of their next 4 games at Anfield but come up against some tricky opponents.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    First?

Total FPL seems way out on price rises at the moment. When I checked at 1am last night, Bent, Jarvis & Odemwingie were nowhere near going up - I think only Bent's NTI percentage was in the eighties.

The price falls have been unpredictable for a while too.

I usually post such witty, intelligent, thoughtful and amusing posts, but here I just feel like saying....FIRST!

This is my first FIRST ever, and I feel really proud. I'd like to thank my mum and my dad, and the old yogi I met in Nepal. Awesome guy, really.

Lampard to get 2 this weekend, Birmingham to play out a nil-nil, Walcott to get 3, and Valencia to get 2 assists. A brace for Bale, too.

    Thankyouplease.

Which keeper and people pairing up with Foster for the rest of the season? Looking at doing Gomes right now is there anyone better?
Also anyone think Nani out for Lamps is worth a 4 point hit this week? Nani surely has to start after not starting the last two right??!!

Johnny, i'd actually be happy if he were offered a new contract. He won't play consistently, no chance, but he could do a job occasionally at either RB, RW or in DM. Worth having around but we should still be looking at another class DM to challenge Carrick.

Oh I would too, my only concern is that by extending Scholes' contract year on year, and possibly offering Hargreaves a new contract, Fergie has a skewed account of the health of his midfield.

I personally don't think we will ever see Hargreaves string 3-4 games together again, even in the space of a month, but I like that we may give him another chance to, I just assume the terms of the new contract will be very pro employer!

So I can understand not captaining Lampard, its a bit risky and, for me anyway, my nearest rival will go with RVP and I dont need to risk being different.

However, I think that people saying he isnt important, or worth it, could be BADLY burned. This is the guy who can score 4 goals a game people, and he often finishes the season strongly. Not to mention that Chelsea loves battering Wigan. I'd be a little worried going into the week without him!

    I'm currently thinking
    Bentley > Adam +
    Kelly/Djou > Luiz

    Foster (Begovic)
    Coleman Kolarov Simpson
    VDV Nasri Young Nani Bentley
    RVP Carroll

    Rooney Kelly Djou (Bank 2.8)

Any better suggestions that spring to mind? 🙂

Haha I'm not sure I can fit him in unless I downgrade Rooney.

It's another option as one of my rivals has Lampard and fear he could catch up with him.

I thought to bring in Adam but for me it would have to be for a hit, you reckon he will able to have much influence in the Arsenal game? Bringing in Luiz seems a good idea, only think you should consider with the coming gameweeks is Chelsea coverage perhaps?

Yeah true. I'm just not sure how to get Lampard in.

Nasri has a DGW so he needs to stay. It would probably mean downgrading Rooney.

Would appreciate any advice on my team!

    Foster (Al-Habsi)
    Vidic Kolorov Walker Coleman (Kelly)
Barton Fabregas Yaya Toure VdV Nani
    Van Persie Tevez Odemwingie

    1.6M in the bank.

    1) Kolorov to Luiz sound a good move?

    2) Who should I start this weekend out of Coleman, Yaya and Barton??

    3) Anyone think of any transfer I could take for a hit. Wanted to bring in Adam and Lampard but should I wait a week perhaps?

      1) Yep, seems like a lot of people are making that move, myself included. Good transfer.

      2) Coleman.

      3) You starting Odemwingie then this week? If so, I'd bench him and bring Adam in for Barton/Yaya.

Cheers mate, I thought about Coleman but he would be a 4th defender and apparently has ankle injury so is a doubt?Barton might do well seeing as Nolan isn't playing.

I feel to bring in Adam but I just think its a risk this week for a hit because I cant see him doing really against Arsenal

Should, in theory, be a fairly highscoring game between Arsenal and Blackpool, so I wouldn't count on Adam not doing anything. Besides, his scores at home to Utd, Liverpool and City have been excellent this season.

You'll have to get him in at some stage - with Blackpool's four consecutive home games - so why not this week?

you make a really good point there, I would get him in eventually and would hate to miss out on his score as a rival has him, plus I will focusing on other players next week.

    VDV Nasri Young Nani
    RVP(c) Tevez Berbatov

    Bench: Begovic Adam Huth Kelly
    Bank: 0.1
    1 free transfer

Defence is looking decidedly shaky with all 3 players + goalkeeper away from home. I want to do Huth --> Luiz but need to free up some funds first.

I was going to do Nasri --> Walcott in order to do this, but Walcott's now doubtful so I need another plan.

I'm looking to free up 0.5 m to go Kolerov > Luiz. Options are:

Silva > Walcott (now a doubt)
    Silva > Ramires
    Zigic > Welbeck
    Zigic > Hoilett

Thinking that I'll probably keep Silva, so it really comes down to who I sell Zigic for. They'll be used as 1st sub most of the time.

Man City have some decent games coming in so I'd keep Kolarov personally.

Kol seems to play against weaker opposition and Zab playing against better sides.

blackburn WEST HAM [everton SPURS] STOKE bolton to come after their blank. I have Tevez planned to come in too for GW34.

Bringing in Lampard would be smart but perhaps wait a week and see how Chelsea do tomorrow, because if one of the strikers does well you could straight swap them for Tevez next week.

Tevez could do well this week in my opinion, Liverpool have a few problems at the back so he could cause a few problems.

Your team looks good, you could even save a transfer if you like?

tbh I reckon you should do it because I wouldn't say you have any pressing transfers to make, Djourou could even be back for the Liverpool Arsenal game, then next week like me think about bringing in more Chelsea coverage i suppose?

So first Doyle, and now Hunt is out for 3 weeks after having a hernia operation. Poor Wolves, a little stupid buying Hunt in the first place when they knew he was out until October at the start of the season imo. Short term in the last year or two he has had a few injury problems too.

I have 2 free transfers. Here are my options:
                1/ A Young + Rooney => Lampard + Gyan
                2/ VDV + Rooney => Lampard + Bent
                3/ A Young + Rooney + Kelly => Lampard + Bent + Stearman
                4/ A Young + Evra => Lampard + a 4.4m def

                What should I go for?

personally i would keep Rooney (and am), so if you held a gun to my head to choose would have to go for option 4) and am not a fan of Evra to boot ..

Evra at home v Fulham is 75%-odd clean sheet though...
