Kenny Dalglish this morning confirmed that Steven Gerrard has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

After successfully undergoing surgery last month, Gerrard suffered a setback in training ahead of last weekend’s clash with West Brom. The full extent of the injury will be assessed, but Dalglish has established that his skipper will certainly miss the remaining weeks of the campaign.

Gerrard had been struggling with a groin injury for some time and it now appears that Liverpool will be without the influential midfielder for the rest of this term. His absence will come as a great blow to Liverpool Football Club as well as his loyal Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership of 6.3%. The Reds’ captain has had a stuttering season, with niggling injuries allowing him to make just 21 Premier League appearances and fetch 88 FPL points.

The likely candidate to fill Gerrard’s shoes is youngster Jay Spearing. Dalglish seems extremely fond of the Liverpool lad who has consecutively played 90 minutes in the side’s last two Premier League games. King Kenny also trusted him to start the ever feisty Liverpool Derby, back in January. Priced at just 4.5 on the FPL games, Spearing could offer a budget option with assist potential. A current 0.0% ownership shows he also offers fantastic “differential†potential.

The likely lads – Dirk Kuyt and Raul Meireles – will of course have to increase their attacking burden over the end of season run-in and could well be worth a place in your side. Kuyt will now be on spot-kicks, whilst Meireles should handle set-pieces and corners. Kuyt has scored 8 (including the memorable hat-trick against old foes United) and assisted on 6 occasions. Whilst Meireles has been something of a goal scoring machine over the second half of the season and during January and February he found the back of the net 5 times in 6 games – for 3 of the 5 games he scored in, Gerrard was absent.

The Bonus Points which are traditionally sent Gerrard’s way will also be up for grabs. Luis Suarez has picked up 7 in 5 Premier League starts and should see more head his way over the remaining 7 games. Although failing to find any since his big money switch, whilst still at Newcastle Andy Carroll grabbed 18. If he finds any form over the next few weeks, he could be worth a look-in.

Liverpool’s fixtures are certainly worth bearing in mind (MCY ars BIR NEW ful TOT) – they face 3 of their next 4 games at Anfield but come up against some tricky opponents.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

10:00 Here are some of the main points from Sir Alex's press conference (GT):

"Rafael won't be available for tomorrow. We sent him for a scan but there's no bruising or ligament damage to knee. He should be okay for Tuesday.

"Wes Brown and John O'Shea are fit. Bit by bit we're getting players back. Anderson played last night and is available for tomorrow.

"It's a question of what team I play as I have to think about Tuesday. There will be some changes.

"Fulham are a team who mirror their manager - they're very hard to beat. We need to perform.

"Fans were fantastic on Tuesday and they will be again tomorrow. They know the importance of being united at this time.

"Fletcher has put a bit of weight back on which is good. He's progressing not too bad now."

Had to make transfers on Saturday night, or else I wouldn't have been able to afford them, and I chose to get rid of Nani instead of Rooney. And now he's obviously ineligible!

Hoping that Fulham put up a serious fight, rather than the standard performance from a team managed by an ex-Utd player at Old Trafford.

Grrr... RVP isn't my most in-form player, or my most expensive. No skullduggery with Rooney captain then. ðŸ™

I can't remember the last time I've started a week with only one up front, anyhoo:

    Foster
    Coleman Luiz Walker Dawson
    Fabregas Lampard VDV Adam Wilshere
    RVP (c)

Shit is going to be torn up. 😀

Would have been Rooney instead of Coleman, until the bloody FA decided to ban him!

Needed a midfielder for the next two weeks for 5.0 or under, and Wilshere - with blp then a double - looked the best bet.

I took him out for Carroll last week, which was shocking at the time, but the blow has been softened a little as I now don't have to worry about taking him out and getting Lamps.

my team is lookinv very very much like yours. However I am debating the rooney to drogba or torres move...The positive side is that they both play 3 games and rooney will play one.

the negative side is that neither of them will for sure get all the minutes, and neither are in form.

however both of them have the ability to strike form , specially with the fixtures they have.

      what do you think mate?

surely the 4 players in defense (like i have as well) is a sad look

I'm thinking about it, although it would mean a -12 point hit in total, and I can't afford Drogba - the Chelsea forward who I'd most want to have.

I'm pretty worried about rotation though, especially with the Utd game in the week easily being our most important game left this season. Any combination from Drogba, Torres, Anelka and Kalou could start at the weekend, and if Carlo doesn't drop any hints today then it will be hard to predict who will actually play.

i would like drogba as well, but his minutes since torres has come have been scarce!!!

i really think torres will start scoring and this stretch of matches might be the ones to ignite it. he had his fair shares of chances with man u the other night.

the problem also is when rooney comes back, he could bury us if we dont have him.

Morning All, How does this look?

GW 32: Rooney & Dempsey > Lampard & Jerome (Jerome for GW 33)
    GW 33: Kolorov > Luiz

I need to get Lampard and Luiz in BIG TIME, only way I can really do it.

Other options instead of Jerome include Zigic, Bendnter, Welbeck

    Opinions please lads?

I would go for Welbeck! Bendtner is a big rotation risk, Zigic might not feature because of recent injuries and Jerome might not play if Zigic is declared fit. And Welbeck is the cheapest one as well, no?

From George Caulkin of The Times:
Gyan & Welbeck up front for #SAFC tmw. Bruce says: "It'll be 2 strikers for the 1st time in weeks & that should give us more of a cutting edge."

I needed a bargain basement priced striker til the end of the season and whilst I do think Welbeck was the best bet, I think my heart is ruling my head here - I love him as a player and just wanted him in my team tbh! 🙂
I'm optimistic though. Hoping for a strong Sunderland finish to the season. Campbell is still out, too, which only cements Welbeck and Gyan's positions further, for those interested.

I think Welbeck is a far better player though. I mean, there are better players in the league than Adam and there's a reason the likes of Modric never gets in FF teams despite being very good, but sometimes I do think it's worth deciding based on who's the better player overall... probably sounds like silly, circular logic but I just have more faith in Welbeck notching a few in the next couple of weeks than E-B or DJ.

Nani, but Gyan gives you £ in the bank and not a bad bet either.

risky. Although I would have said that about Arsenal last weekend and Man Utd the weekend before.

Not very, i don't think they will smash Wigan, maybe a comfortable 2-0 before they ease off and start thinking about the CL.

      1) Captain Nani,Berba,VdV,Nasri,Adam,Tevez,RVP or Luiz??So many good captain choices this week, atm I'm leaning heavily towards Berba!

      2) In the Facebook game(no BPs),play which one out of RJ,Coleman and Brunt?

For me even as a Man U fan it depends on whether u want to gamble. RVP more consistent but Berba could deliver more points - remember Berb scors in peaks and troughs not evenly.

Anyone think bringing Adam for a 4 point hit for Barton or Yaya will be worth it this week?? If so, which one?

Its obviously an investment for the season and i'm on the same points as a rival of mine and he has him!

Barton for me as Yaya has a double coming up but not sure its worth a 4 pointer imo.

Ok almost there with my transfer picks this week

          Djourou OUT > Huth IN
          VDV OUT > Lampard IN
          Tevez OUT > Sturridge IN

8 point hit.... Any good or not?

I think so,maybe.I'm contemplating similar transfers. But maybe you can get Bent instead of Sturridge?

Probably not worth an 8 point hit. Tevez is up against a make shift Liverpool back four and he scored twice against them earlier in the season.

              Djourou out for Huth, yes.

Absolutely no need to take an 8 point hit getting rid of VDV and Tevez, though. Both could easily score well. I'd be very surprised if Lampard and Sturridge outscore them by 8 this weekend.

Cant do Djourou to Huth without doing one of the others...

If I was trying to make sure I am fielding 11 then I will really need to get Djourou out for someone... Maybe smalling?

No point getting Smalling as Rio is back, Smalling will probably play this week, but it's unlikely he'll play beyond that. I'd get Walker.

Guys,I'm thinking of similar transfers but for a 4point hit.Do you think it is worth a 4ph at least?I'm thinking either:
                  i) VdV->Lampard,Tevez->Gyan/Chico,or
                  ii) Djourou->Clark/Bardsley,Tevez->Bent.

                  What do you think?

              Got my defenders right?

              Foster (begovic)

              Johnson Luiz Kolorov (coleman huth)

Gone for the attacking powers of Kol and bonus points of Johnson.

Assuming Coleman wont play. Do i need stoke coverage in there?

                Lampard never gets rested.
He is shit however, so possibly Ancelotti could use rest as an excuse to try a formation that doesnt include Lampard.

Need to seriously steady this ship, gone from Ranked 919 to 8167 in last two months, how is this looking:

              Mignolet (Foster)
              Luiz Coleman Kolarov (RJohnson Kelly)
              Nani Lampard Fabregas Adam (Ferguson)
              Berbatov Carroll RvP

Just took Kingson out for Mignolet...
