Injuries

Kenny Dalglish this morning confirmed that Steven Gerrard has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

After successfully undergoing surgery last month, Gerrard suffered a setback in training ahead of last weekend’s clash with West Brom. The full extent of the injury will be assessed, but Dalglish has established that his skipper will certainly miss the remaining weeks of the campaign.

Gerrard had been struggling with a groin injury for some time and it now appears that Liverpool will be without the influential midfielder for the rest of this term. His absence will come as a great blow to Liverpool Football Club as well as his loyal Fantasy Premier League (FPL) ownership of 6.3%. The Reds’ captain has had a stuttering season, with niggling injuries allowing him to make just 21 Premier League appearances and fetch 88 FPL points.

The likely candidate to fill Gerrard’s shoes is youngster Jay Spearing. Dalglish seems extremely fond of the Liverpool lad who has consecutively played 90 minutes in the side’s last two Premier League games. King Kenny also trusted him to start the ever feisty Liverpool Derby, back in January. Priced at just 4.5 on the FPL games, Spearing could offer a budget option with assist potential. A current 0.0% ownership shows he also offers fantastic “differential” potential.

The likely lads – Dirk Kuyt and Raul Meireles – will of course have to increase their attacking burden over the end of season run-in and could well be worth a place in your side. Kuyt will now be on spot-kicks, whilst Meireles should handle set-pieces and corners. Kuyt has scored 8 (including the memorable hat-trick against old foes United) and assisted on 6 occasions. Whilst Meireles has been something of a goal scoring machine over the second half of the season and during January and February he found the back of the net 5 times in 6 games – for 3 of the 5 games he scored in, Gerrard was absent.

The Bonus Points which are traditionally sent Gerrard’s way will also be up for grabs. Luis Suarez has picked up 7 in 5 Premier League starts and should see more head his way over the remaining 7 games. Although failing to find any since his big money switch, whilst still at Newcastle Andy Carroll grabbed 18. If he finds any form over the next few weeks, he could be worth a look-in.

Liverpool’s fixtures are certainly worth bearing in mind (MCY ars BIR NEW ful TOT) – they face 3 of their next 4 games at Anfield but come up against some tricky opponents.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

Okay all, after much deliberation im ignoring Brum strikers for the upcoming double. Better options elsewhere i think. Lame ducks.

    How does this look?

    GW 32: Rooney & Dempsey > Lampard & Welbeck (4 point hit)
    GW 33: Kolorov & Coleman > Luiz & Kosielney/Sagna (4 point hit)

    Thoughts?

I have a similar dilemma..can only really get one of Luiz or Lampard in this week....and will do the other the following week....but which one to get first?

I'd say you've got it right.

for me the choice this week is ...

Barton and Rooney - Lampard and Hoilett

      or

Djoourou and rooney - Bent and Luiz

...any advice kind sirs and siresses?

The way im looking at it is this.

If im making 4 transfers over the next 2 weeks, at least 3 of them MUST to DGW players to cover my arse.

I think Lampard, Luiz and Kosielney will cover me, and welbeck is cheap, frees up funds and has good fixtures.

Not sure about Holiet, but i imagine your getting in him for similar reasons as I am with Welbeck?

hoilet means I can get lampard in now...but if I wait a week I can go for a lampard and gyan combo..which is a bit better.

Hows this looking my fellow ABU's?

    Foster
    Kolarov Luiz Coleman Walker
    Fabregas Nani VDV Young Adam
    RVP

Still contemplating Nani -> AJ & VDV -> Lampard
    or Rooney -> Drog/Torres
    or Rooney -> Hernandez/Gyan & VDV -> Lampard.

    Foster/Beg
    Walker, Colemon, Luis, Huth, R.Johnson
    Adam, Lampard, Nani, Fabregas, Cleverly
    Bent, Carroll, RVP

Lampard always used to play every game. Not really one for a rest. Additionally he should be quite fresh after not playing a huge amount of matches this season

      Thanks Burly.

Given how key Lampard is and that is has played the full 90 mins for Chelsea virtually every game since returning from injury, surely it is a real possibility he could be rested given the importance of Tuesday's game.

      I'm shopping for a 3.9 defender.

      Baptiste
      Elokobi
      Stearman
      Jara

      or someone else?

Jara has dropped to 3.9? Sad times.

        I'd go for Elokobi.

Stearman is a regular starter for Wolves. I'm also looking at Foley/WW at 4.0.

Need to seriously steady this ship, gone from Ranked 919 to 8167 in last two months, how is this looking:

      Mignolet (Foster)
      Luiz Coleman Kolarov (RJohnson Kelly)
      Nani Lampard Fabregas Adam (Ferguson)
      Berbatov Carroll RvP

Just took Kingson out for Mignolet…

      Biggest regret of my season.

Never having Nolan in my team. More points than Nasri, VDV, Young and Silva, all of whom have been in my team at various stages.

MAJOR FAIL. How did I not notice him?? >:(
