Christian Eriksen is an injury concern for Tottenham after picking up an ankle problem on duty for Denmark. Phil Jones is forced off with a groin problem for England, Kevin Mirallas admits his lack of form has been instrumental to Everton’s woes up front, new Fulham coach Rene Meulensteen hope to kick-start Dimitar Berbatov’s season, whilst Jesus Navas remains happy at City despite losing his first-team place:

Eriksen Worry for Spurs

Andre Villa-Boas was left sweating over the availability of his summer signing from Ajax after he was carried from the field in last night’s friendly win over Norway. Eriksen supplied the assist for his nation’s opener in the 2-1 triumph before being forced off towards the end of the first period with an ankle injury. After the match, his national coach, Morten Olsen, was pessimistic with his initial prognosis:

“We don’t know if he’s out for four or six weeks or how long it will take. It’s bad for him at a new club.”

The Scout Says: After being dropped from the Spurs line-up in recent weeks, Eriksen was reinstalled to the role in “the hole†for the previous league match at home to Newcastle – his first start since Gameweek 7. While Spurs were unable to find a way past the inspired Tim Krul in the Magpies’ goal, the Dane turned in a superb creative display, teeing up nine chances for his goal-shy team-mates to suggest he was finally starting to settle in Villas-Boas’ starting line-up – last night’s news will give his manager plenty concern ahead of a back-to-back games against City and United, with Lewis Holtby potentially set to return to the centre, though Gylfi Sigurdsson or Erik Lamela also offer options, if the Spurs boss opts for Andros Townsend and Aaron Lennon out wide.

Jones Concern for Moyes

The United versatility man was forced off with a groin problem just before the hour mark in England’s defeat at the hands of Chile last night. After the game, Roy Hodgson revealed Jones is set for a scan and could well miss Tuesday’s match with Germany, going on to say “We hope it’s not very very seriousâ€.

The Scout Says: With Michael Carrick already ruled out for four-to-six weeks with an Achilles injury, Jones was expected to settle into the United midfield, allowing Jonny Evans to continue alongside Nemanja Vidic in the heart of the back-four. A possible absence certainly lessens the likelihood of any rotation at centre-half, boosting Evans’ chances of increasing a run which has seen him start five of the last six. At 5.0, the Northern Ireland international could be set to pick up extra investors around the Gameweek 14 mark – United then have three home games and trips to Villa, Hull and Norwich on their agenda.

Mirallas Admits Culpability

Everton’s wide man blames himself for his side’s recent toils in front of goal after the Merseysiders drew blanks in each of the last two Gameweeks:

“I have become an important part of the team and, in the last two games, we have had bad results because I played less well. This had on impact on the whole team. I have to stop this lack of consistency, even if opponents are now marking me more. The whole team plays through me so that I can make the difference and provide good passes to Romelu (Lukaku).”

The Scout Says: After failing to score or assist in the first four fixtures, the Belgian picked up in form after Lukaku joined on loan from Chelsea. In their first four games together, Mirallas produced a goal and three assists but the returns have dried up again – with the Toffees impressing at the back instead, Martinez’ side have now earned a clean sheet in each of the last three but their failure to score is a real concern ahead of games against Liverpool, United and Arsenal in the next four. Over 7,000 have sold Mirallas this week while Lukaku, with a single goal in the last four, has been shipped out by over 47,000 Fantasy managers.

Kasami in the Goals for Swiss

Ahead of a run of four home games in the next six, the Fulham budget midfielder served a reminder of his eye for goal by scoring the opener in Switzerland’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of South Korea.

The Scout Says: With two strikes to his name already, including a goal of the season contender away to Palace, Kasami is the Cottagers’ third top scoring player in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game. Priced at just 4.5, he has started all but one of the 11 Gameweeks so far and is one of the few cut-price midfield options to offer attacking potential – with his side struggling for form, he looks a secure starter for Martin Jol’s strugglers.

Meulensteen Hoping to Help Berbatov

Still on the subject of Fulham, their new first-team coach is determined to help Dimitar Berbatov rediscover his form after a hugely disappointing first few months. Meulensteen – who has worked with the Bulgarian at Old Trafford in previous years – went on to say:

“Everyone knows the talent he brings to the table. It’s very clear sometimes the frustrations that goes with it. That’s what you get with these sort of players. They are geniuses in some ways and I always find it a challenge to make sure that we can serve those players in the right way that they can bring out the best in themselves for the best purpose of the team.”

The Scout Says: Having racked up 15 goals and four assists in his debut season at the Cottage, Berbatov was a Fantasy sensation last time around but has shown little of the same attacking potential. Despite starting 10 of the first 11 Gameweeks, he has produced just a single goal and assist and subsequently dropped from 7.5 to 7.0 in FPL. Jol’s continual tinkering has hardly helped, with Berbatov moved between the role in “the hole†and advanced berth up front in order to accommodate Darren Bent – the latter has failed to start the last two, though, and may find his game time curtailed again as Meulensteen looks to bring out the best in the Bulgarian.

Navas Happy at City

The Spaniard revealed he has no regrets over his move to the Etihad, despite falling out of the first-team picture in recent months:

“I am very impressed with the Premier League rhythm. The games are very direct and the league is very competitive. In Sevilla I also played big games. I feel an important player for City and I am happy. Pellegrini has welcomed me very well. he is a hard-worker, humble and simple. Manchester City does not intimidate me and neither does the squad. I was used to winning titles with Sevilla and Spain, I wanted to keep doing it and I had that option with City. They bet everything for me. I wanted to experience something new. What I got in Seville was unique, but I wanted a new challenge.”

The Scout Says: After starting four of the first five league games for his new club, Navas has quickly become a peripheral figure under Pellegrini. With four sub appearances in the subsequent six fixtures, he looks firmly behind David Silva and a revitalised Samir Nasri for City – indeed, despite Silva’s absence in the previous Gameweek away to Sunderland, Navas was overlooked for a starting berth on the right, with James Milner getting the nod instead. With Silva still likely to miss out at home to Spurs, though, his compatriot will be hopeful of returning to the XI after impressing off the bench against the Black Cats.

Brady on Track for Palace Return

Reports suggest that Robbie Brady will be fit and available for selection for Hull City’s home clash with Crystal Palace. Brady was recently forced to undergo a double hernia operation and has struggled to regain fitness – he was ruled out of the matchday squad for the Gameweek 11 defeat to Southampton and played just 22 minutes in the previous two league matches.

The Scout Says: Brady’s return will come as a major boost for Steve Bruce with his threat and delivery from set-pieces set to be a key factor against the Palace defence. Despite the staggered return from injury, Fantasy managers have not lost faith in the potential of the Tigers midfielder: Brady has slowly increased in ownership and has held his 5.2 Fantasy Premier League price tag. Should he return for Gameweek 12 and figure amongst the points, we’re likely to see Brady’s ownership jump again, particularly with Ross Barkley’s security of start in question.

'Leighton Baines, having scored twice in one game for Everton in September, said afterwards he was spurred on by team‑mate Leon Osman, who'd "taken me out of his fantasy football team because I wasn't doing enough". Baines vowed to score a couple, and did.'

Think you're stuck with a couple two point heroes there.

I'd say go with Cylne as he might get you a cheeky offensive return?

Heck, maybe SOU pull out a 1-nil result like they did v. Anfield...

Don't take a hit for a player who'll probably only garner you 2pts.

This is typically a net loss for us...

Brady must produce an offensive return or you're down -2pts on the week.

I try to make it a 'rule' to captain a player I bring in for a hit.

'Worst case' is simply 0pts for me. (4pts for the C & -4pts for the hit)

It's not that simple though. You could be well behind if your other prospective captain scores more than the 2 points your new acquisition gets.

I appreciate this is an over simplified 'fake football rule' I have...

That said, if I already had a clear-cut captain's choice I don't know if I'd take a hit to bring a player in... know what I mean?

If / when I take a hit it is to:

-Address serious injury concerns (3 or more are red)

-Bring in a clear cut captain's choice (eg. Aguero v. NOR / Suarez v. Fullham)

-Bring in double game week players, who then typically get the armband (eg. Utd, City, Ars, Liv etc... attackers)

Got the technical quality though their defence sucks, pity really as I think in technical quality they should be a quarter-final/semi-final side. They convincingly beat Denmark in the last World Cup if I recall correctly.

Posted this in the DZ last night, any other opinions?

So here's the update on my ticket situation ( I'm sure ye have all been highly anticipating this 😉 ).

I'm finding it next to impossible to get a ticket to Arsneal vs. Southampton. My gf booked flights for me and i'll be in London that day so would be a shame not to go it. Now, I need advice.

There is a Tour operator who have packages still available for a hotel for the night and a match ticket for €255. My return flight is 21.00pm the night of the game. Would it be insane to pay the package price solely for the match ticket. I would personally be paying €150 and my gf €100 as that is what she had intended on getting, the match basically.

Is that crazy or should I go for it. I'm moving to Australia in January for at least a year so it could be my last chance for a while. I haven't seen Arsenal in the flesh since highbury, the year of the invincibles! Any thoughts or could ye really not care less?

Funny situation. Yeah with this little notice a guaranteed ticket source is gold dust. If you can afford it, I think you might as well. If you know anyone in the London area why not offer the hotel to them as a treat, that way you make two people happy.

Yeah, only go if it is disposable income. It's a special experience, you can't buy a time and place.

From a football point of view I'm not looking forward to playing Southampton's pressing game but as a matchday experience it's something else.

At least we have two games under our belt with a team that play a similar style (Dortmund) so hopefully that stands to us. It actually has all the makings of a 0-0/1-0/0-1. Should that influence my thinking or would it be worth it regardless in your opinion?

United's CBs could conceivably be any mix of Rio/Vidic/Evans/Jones/Smalling so owning Evans is accepting at least the odd benching. Question is how many games he will start; 4 starts in the last 5 looks pretty encouraging though it could easily turn again. I think what swings it is that he is a CB so won't be subbed on for cameos very much at all. So starting him is unlikely to result in a 1 pointer. If he starts say 70-80% of games at 5.0, that's good business.

Great point regarding the non-cameos. Thanks. Generally I'll only look at players 99% guarranteed to start, but what with the upcoming fixture congestion for most teams and likely rotation, Evans at that price is on the radar. Looking important to have a good bench for the short to medium term and not put all our eggs in one basket...

Yeah, I like calculated punts where you have an idea of what % of gametime you're buying. I think the real damage is done by 1pt cameos; if the player is reasonably cheap you can afford them to be benched. I should have got Dawson despite concerns over his gametime - even if he's started only 70% of games it would have been excellent value and as far as I'm aware he never subbed on for a 1pt cameo.

I'm fairly sure that means the opposite in betting parlance of what I meant, basically are Rio and Vidic unlikely to partner each other again?

I'm looking hard at Evans as well.
It looks like he's overtaken Ferdinand as the no.1 partner to Vidic, without too much chance of rotation.
      Variables right now include:
Jones groin pull- is he out too?
Carrick's injury -will Jones play as DM for the next 6 weeks?
Vidic injury- how long is he out?

With all these potential injuries I'm not too sure how it will shake out. Really tempting for 5.0, though. If you look at Jones minutes, he has basically started every game this season except for when he's been injured- a better bet for 0.8 more, but less chance of CB bonus points because he's been playing as DM....

Looks like AVB is only using Lamela on the right wing. Only way I could see it happening is Siggy moving central (not sure this has happened to often at Spurs), Townsend moving from right wing to left wing freeing up the space for Lamela. One too many move for me though.

I think a more likely way of Lamela getting in is Townsend being dropped.

This is a list of the percentage of chances created that result in a goal per team.It basically shows how clinical the strikers have been and how much chance a player has to get an assist if he creates a chance.

    Chance conversion rate:

    1. Man City 19.6%
    2. Arsenal 18.6%
    3. Man United 17.5%
    4. Liverpool 16.8%
    5. Fulham 15.4%
    6. Southampton 14.3%
    7. Swansea 14.2%
    8. Chelsea 13.6%
    9. Cardiff 13.4%
    10. West Brom 13.2%
    11. Everton 12.7%
    12. Newcastle 12.4%
    13. Stoke 12.2%
    14. Hull 11.3%
    15. Aston Villa 11.1%
    16. Sunderland 10.4%
    17. Norwich 9.5%
    18. West Ham 9.5%
    19. Palace 7.4%
    20. Tottenham 6.1%

    Conclusion

I like to use these numbers when deciding on midfielders who have assist potential. These stats were one of the main reasons I chose Sess over Snodgrass as Norwich just aren’t converting their chances. This table also shows why players like Ozil and Silva are assist machines as their chances created are converted three times more than a chance created at Tottenham by a player such as Eriksen.

It’s also no surprise to see the teams with arguably the best strikers in the premier league and already this soon into the season you can see how much not having a quality on form striker is affecting Chelsea and Tottenham’s conversion rate.

The problem with stats like this are that it doesn't indicate much in terms of future returns. Fulham are 5th and Spurs are bottom but that's more to do with the number of chances created.

Tottenhams chance creation is up there with the best but Soldado and all the rest of them need to take their chances, they can't compete in this league only taking 6% of their chances. I would say you should steer clear of Tottenham's attack until they show signs of improvement.

Hazard has significantly more sub-ons in his away matches so that will hurt his average stats (you can see it's decreased his average gametime significantly).

Beyond that it really is tactics, you can see both play deeper, get fewer shots and less possession. Just shutting up shop away.

A couple of Friday nights ago Martinez was in the studio on Five Live and proper bigged Barkley up, saying he was a natural and had adapted very well. After this he was seemingly benched, the classic kiss of death. I can only guess he is trying to preserve him before he gets a long term injury. This halting of progress happens to young players a lot. I think you might as well keep him. Good value and a serious talent in a very good position. I was all set to get him before he was benched.

no I should be able to afford McAuley, as long as he doesn't rise more than once

But look at GW17 (when Swansea's fixtures turn)

            Evans

            McAuley

HUL, tot, whm, NEW, sot, EVE, avl

I kinda have too, but I got more pressing issues, at least I know Williams will play

Unless Clichy comes back injured again I have to get rid of Kolarov.

Unless you prefer McAuley to JT? But even then, I'd be selling GW17 or 18

Everyone's saying it's Chelsea defender time but week after week they keep screwing up at the back. So actually I'd class getting a Chelsea defender as a punt, a punt that they go back to some sort of 2004-2006 meanness. JT does have some monster aerial threat so that might make up somewhat. Might as well get him now yeah.

                    WBA v HUL

                    SOT v TOT

                    ARS v CHE

Maybe McAuley till 18 TOT v WBA is better, then get Vert?

Not sure what you're getting at, but you're a canny thinker so I may be leaving myself open here... 😉

Are you thinking that there is more upside to hits for players outside those in the top ten because with those players out of the way and playing each other, there is more hope for a clean sheet say if you bring in a defender, or more chance for attacking points if you bring in a mid or striker, as some of the better defenders and strikers are playing elsewhere?

    Mad idea

Brady, if he's fit, keep for Palace

    After that sell to Morrison

    Brady has LIV, ars

    Ravel has FUL, cpl

Then swap back, it should only cost me 0,1 extra to get Brady back in, and I might make that back in Ravel price rises

    @viper

Regarding your ticket dilemma, myself and a group of friends were in London a few years ago. 2 of my friends had tickets for the arsenal game, I didn't.
We went down to the stadium around 1.5 hrs before kick off and I got speaking to a guy who sold me a ticket for 60quid.

Maybe I was lucky, but it illustrates that it is possible to acquire a ticket without spending silly amounts.

Just thought I would tell you my story.

P.s I'm a united fan. Mates are arsenal fans.

I think upgrading whittingham maybe in order soon , as much as i see brady as my 4th mid after palace game he has a few tough games where ideally i will bench him.

Whits may have set pieces but he seems to be dropping deeper in their formation.

Should I keep or sell whits ?

Having watched Cardiff the last few games he doesn't appear to be getting involved in the attack at all.

That being said, with set pieces and pens on his side, I may keep him until the winter wildcard.
