Our midweek regular returns this afternoon as we look to the upcoming Gameweek and outline the players, teams and scenarios we’ll be keeping eye on between Saturday lunchtime and Monday evening’s Hawthorns clash.

Sturridge’s Performance
The former Chelsea man remains the most popular forward in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game but his owners are starting to get twitchy. Sturridge sits in 36% of sides but, without a goal in the last two, has been sold by over 90,000 this week as Fantasy managers migrate to Luis Suarez as their preferred Reds frontman. A blank in this week’s Merseyside derby could be the final straw for many Sturridge owners; with a trip to Hull and three home games in four (NOR, WHM, CAR), overlooking his strike partner for such a run could prove a huge oversight as he attempts to add to his tally of four sets of double figures in six appearances. If Suarez manages to breach the Everton backline and deliver yet another haul, the deal will surely be sealed for many.

Giroud’s Form and Walcott’s Return
The Gunners lone forward is another whose appeal is on the wane. A goal in each of the first four Gameweeks has been followed by a single strike (against Palace) in the subsequent seven, with Giroud mainly relying upon assists to bolster his tally – as Suarez, Sergio Aguero and the United front two all hit their stride, though, his 32% ownership is diminishing. The potential return of Theo Walcott for a run of three home games in four could add another dimension to Arsene Wenger’s side and offer us an alternative route into the Gunners attack at a time where Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil are owned by 58% and 32% of FPL managers. Fantasy managers at least have the option of cutting ties with Giroud and looking to Walcott as their Arsenal coverage, thus freeing up a vital forward slot – Arsene Wenger only has Nicklas Bendtner to turn to.

Coloccini’s Comeback
Fit in time for the previous Gameweek, the Magpies skipper was retained on the bench as Alan Pardew kept faith in Mike Williamson and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa as his central defensive pairing. Although the Magpies produced a second successive clean sheet at Spurs, Coloccini looks set to be offered a way back into the XI as a result of a one-match suspension to Mathieu Debuchy – Yanga-Mbiwa seems the likeliest to shift, either to right or left-back to cover form his absent compatriot. Having earned maximum bonus both times he’s picked up a clean sheet, Coloccini is back on our radars with two consecutive home games against Norwich and West Brom on his agenda – down to 4.9 in FPL, the Argentine is poised to reclaim his berth in the back-four, forcing Williamson and Yanga-Mbiwa to battle it out for the other slot when Debuchy returns next weekend.

Tottenham’s Defence Facing The City Attack
Heading into Gameweek 12, City are the last remaining side with a 100% home record. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have averaged four goals per game in front of their own fans, notching 20 times over five fixtures, with Sergio Aguero already serving up hauls of 12, 13 and 18 points at the Etihad. Typically, then, the Argentine would be the obvious armband candidate but he faces the toughest away defence in the Premier League this weekend – Spurs arrive on Sunday afternoon having conceded just once in five road trips. Andre Villas-Boas’ side also face United and Liverpool in the next five but if they can keep Aguero and company at bay, Jan Vertonghen and Kyle Walker owners may be happy to hold and ride through the upcoming schedule.

Sessegnon vs Amalfitano
A home game against Villa is the first of four Hawthorns fixtures in the next six for Steve Clarke’s side. While Amalfitano was quick out the blocks, with two goals and a couple of assists in his first four appearances, the Frenchman has now drawn blanks in the following four – Sessegnon, on the other hand, has chipped in with a goal and assist in the last two. Both remain firmly under the radar – Amalfitano, at 5.2, has an ownership of 4%, while the 6.6 priced Sessegnon resides in less than 3% of teams; a strong performance from either in Monday evening’s derby may prove decisive for those eyeing up a route into the Baggies midfield.

Meulensteen’s Impact
The former United coach will be looking to arrest an alarming slump in form from Martin Jol’s side. Aside from their 4-1 demolition of Palace in Gameweek 8, Fulham have offered little going forward – they have scored just six times in the other 10 fixtures and managed two clean sheets all season. Havingvowed to get the best out of Dimitar Berbatov, Meulensteen is handed three home games in four to reinvigorate the Bulgarian; with Steve Sidwell leading the way as their top scoring FPL player, it’s fair to say Fulham have offered us slim pickings as a Fantasy force.

Benteke’s Confidence
It’s four games without a goal for the Villa forward but as last week’s Monitor article for members indicated, the chances are still falling his way – he’s simply failing to take them. Crucially, the fixtures are also in Benteke’s favour – our season ticker rates Villa as top for attacking potential between now and Gameweek 20. Having missed Belgium’s match against Japan with a knee knock last night, he’s expected to be back in time for Monday’s derby trip to West Brom – given that he has has Sunderland and Fulham in the following three, a morale boosting display against the Baggies could see Benteke bully both strugglers and begin his ascent back up the Fantasy rankings.

Good Evans?
David Moyes’ recent team sheets have given Fantasy managers hope that the Northern Ireland international is establishing himself as a backline regular for United. Evans has started five of the last six and, in season where Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic have suffered most than most from “niggles and knocks” to quote their new manager’s favourite phrase, Evans is emerging as a solid contender in defence. With Phil Jones also struggling due to a groin problem, Evans – at 5.0 – rolls up to Cardiff this weekend, as the hosts attempt to register a Manchester double in front of their own fans, having defeated City back in Gameweek 2. If Evans can help marshall the Red Devils to a second clean sheet in succession for the first time this term, the bandwagon could start to pick up pace as Moyes looks to take advantage of a kind schedule from Gameweek 14 onwards.

    Hey guys. I'm having a bit of a dilemma... if you were on WC right now, what 5th defender would you pick?

    I could take a chance on Chester starting, I think he's the best option but is he worth the possibility of missing the best match? I don't think Rosenior is nailed on either. That leaves BTurner, which is safe but I rate Hull's defense higher than Cardiff's for sure... any others?

        From what I can gather he started at RB when Koren got injured because Elmo, who played RB in the first 4 GWs, was pushed up to play in the midfield. With Koren and Brady back, who's to say Elmo won't go back at RB pushing Rosenior to the bench? Elmo has started every single match so far, he'll definitely play... who will drop out in the midfield if he retains that role?

      Nothing between them odds-wise. Ownership makes Aguero a safer choice, Remy more of a differential. I've got it riding on Remy at the moment, hopefully I'll stay strong and keep it on him. Just can't see Spurs breaking down, even versus City. They were dire versus Sunderland, and yes that was away, but still.

      Kun is against the toughest away defence in the league. 1 goal max.
      Remy is against a Norwich side showing signs of improvement.

                On Rooney currently because of the stats showing Cardiff the home defense that concedes the most shots. He also has the last game and a differ in my minileague. Agueros form is amazing though and his 2 goals on the break did not help. So I am twitching a bit. But Lloris is back so he will probably strengthen the Tott defense. I will try to leave it on Roo

      Its to protect you and the site.

      And also you are not stating any facts. You are stating partially what a Daily Telegraph article had in September alleging that he was due to have his police bail reviewed again in November. In your comment you mentioned first court hearing, then hearing...there is no court hearing at all. So that's not a fact.

      Secondly I say alleged because we do not know if he has in fact been bailed by police at all. The police are merely saying that a man matching his age has. He has not said anything publicly. Now the Daily Telegraph may have access to information that they can use in a libel case to prove that it is him. They may not. But more importantly do you? Could you defend yourself in a libel case?

      This may seem heavy handed but google search Bercow v McAlpine for example to show that we have to be very careful what is said online.

        My team: http://fantasy.premierleague.com/entry/624174/event-history/11/

        Would you do:

        A) Baines (7.6) + Mutch (4.4) -> Sess (6.6) + Evans (5.0)

        B) Baines (7.6) + Mutch (4.4) -> Sess (6.6) + McAuley (5.4)

        C) Baines (7.6) + Mutch (4.4) -> Cabaye (6.3) + Evans (5.0)

        D) Baines (7.6) + Mutch (4.4) -> Cabaye (6.3) + McAuley (5.4)

        Transfers would be for a 4 point hit.

        I am leaning towards option A as some spare cash would allow me to get Wally in for either Oscar (8.9) or Gerrard (8.9). D option works too but Cabaye is on 4 yellows.

          If "ASAP" means taking a hit I disagree but each manager has his views on hits. Ozil and Lukaku have home games and may score and Aguero has a difficult game against TOT, so A and B seem like tossing points out the window to me.

              McAuley is a good option but I might make sure he rotates with Coleman/Williams (or Chester when he returns) for WBA's tough away games as I don't think you plug him in every game. Still leaves you with a lot of cash if you have another move planned for next GW.

        so you're saying that you're less likely to get in on the goals because you have more players from the same team? each players points potential remains the same no matter how you arrange your team.

        The only difference to me is when it comes to captains - then it's important to have more than 1 team. for eg. it would be mental to have both Rooney and RVP

          Simple math. Depending on the teams the 3 are from but lets say the other teams average 1.5 GPG and Arsenal average 2 GPG. I won't bore you with the total numbers but there is a bigger points pie from a combined 4.5 goals vs 2 goals which is why its better to spread out.

                lol nice one. As I said it depends on the players/teams you are overlooking to have those 3 in MF but if if you see more upside in those 3 over other similar priced players then thats all that matter and you should go for it.

      Just looking for opinions on how weak the team looks for the coming weeks. Front 3 aside do the rest have decent optential or is the balance too horrible? 0.1 ITB and 0 FT. Will try and do something about Barkley or Wilson next week.

        Good team and you'll always get something from that front 3. Wilson would be my priority next week, maybe somebody that rotates well with Clyne ? Rat, if fit ? A personal prejudice, but I don't think Oscar is anywhere near the player Hazard is (or Silva) so I might look at moving him. I tend to think Barkley will get back in the lineup; Everton have missed him and I can't believe Martinez won't see that.

          Thanks for the input sir. i'm not a big fan of current Oscar either but seems a bit too sidways to do him to Hazard at this moment. Silva I like but is out for a bit longer so I think I just have to ride that one out for now. Wilson --> Rat if fit looks good to me and if Barkley gets his place back that would be amazing for him as I'll be without Lukaku.

        Still love playing fpl. Last year was obvious great. I think the problem I had this year was I picked the wrong team and then didn't play the early wildcard. where as last year everyone was getting me pts.

        My problem has been upfront got focused on setting up my team and have never owned suarez rooney giroud or sturridge. Where as ive owned anelka for most of the season lol.

        Your doing well mate...hopefully youll get to last years level!

          Best of luck.

          Thanks. Mert is only 0.2 more, although only one goal so maybe not much between them attacking wise.

      Looks like hazard is set to rise tonight

      So Chelsea mids ? Why should have one in your team ? Personally I don't think I would bother and would rather double up on arsenal, Liverpool or man city

      Some of you have made a convincing argument for Aguero... damn you

      Now it's between Aguero, Ozil and Remy for the armband...
