With Gameweek 13 and the international break (Gameweek 14) behind us it’s time to reacquaint ourselves with the Sky Sports Fantasy Football game. We assess the recent run of Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point magnets and current market trends and, as always, look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup, with one eye on Gameweek 16.

Gameweek 13 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Aston Villa vs CardiffLeandro Bacuna
Chelsea vs West BromEden Hazard
Crystal Palace vs EvertonDanny Gabbidon
Liverpool vs FulhamLuis Suarez
Southampton vs HullAdam Lallana
Norwich vs West HamRobert Snodgrass
Tottenham vs NewcastleTim Krul
Sunderland vs Man CityWes Brown
Man United vs ArsenalWayne Rooney
Swansea vs StokeWilfried Bony

No real shocks here with perhaps only Eden Hazard slightly fortunate to receive the award after converting a controversial last minute penalty against West Brom. The spread of MoTM awards was fairly even with midfielders claiming four, forwards three, defenders two and goalkeepers picking up a single award. Wayne Rooney and Eden Hazard both now have 3 awards each – only Daniel Sturridge (4) and Curtis Davies (5) have achieved the award more often.

Gameweek 13 Bonus Points

Three goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Boaz Myhill, Maarten Stekelenburg and Tim Krul were the top shot stoppers. Krul managed an astonishing 14 saves in his MoTM display at the Lane, which contributed to a total of 14 points – he now sits atop the overall keeper rankings alongside Simon Mignolet, with both now averaging bonus points every 130 minutes.

In defence, a total of 17 players gathered bonus, eight for tackles and nine for passes completed – full-backs Glen Johnson and Branislav Ivanovic were the closest to achieving both, as they each fell just one tackle short of the required four. Currently John Terry and Joel Ward are the top bonus magnets in defence with an additional 12 points apiece.

In midfield, 24 players earned bonus points, the most in a single Gameweek so far – 14 for tackling and 13 for passes. Liverpool duo Jordan Henderson and Lucas Leiva managed to achieve both as did West Ham’s Mark Noble. Aaron Ramsey continues to be the number one player in regards to bonus with 24 additional points earned.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RamseyArsenal5.83.87%
EriksenTottenham73.17%
SturridgeLiverpool9.23.13%
Van PersieMan Utd103.12%
SoldadoTottenham8.13.00%

Surprisingly, Arsenal’s in-form Aaron Ramsey finds himself top of the transfers out list. This may be attributed to the hamstring injury and/or illness that kept him out of Wales’ match with Finland, whilst Robin Van Persie’s withdrawal from the Holland squad has had a similar effect. Christian Eriksen’s ankle injury has forced his owners’ hand and a loss of form for Daniel Sturridge and Roberto Soldado has persuaded many Fantasy managers to jump ship – as we’ll see, there are a couple of ready-made frontline replacements.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
LallanaSouthampton5.97.63%
SuarezLiverpool9.96.78%
AgueroMan City9.84.06%
LovrenSouthampton5.23.49%
DaviesHull4.53.39%

England’s new recruit Adam Lallana is the most transferred-in player over the last two weeks – whilst his form has been very strong, Southampton’s upcoming fixtures bring a tear to the eye so it remains to be seen if he can keep up his performances. The other four players in the table have featured heavily over the last few weeks and continue to attract substantial investment, with Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero earning plenty new owners over the past fortnight.

Gameweek 15 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 15, there is an opportunity to have three skippers using a single transfer – our method detailed below also sets us up nicely for Gameweek 16.

Suggested Strategy:
Luis Suarez (Everton Away) β†’ Sergio Aguero (Tottenham at Home) β†’ Christian Benteke (West Brom Away)

For Saturday, we’re backing Luis Suarez to hit form once again in the Merseyside derby at Goodison. Alternatively Newcastle’s Loic Remy could be an option – he’s in great form and squares up to a leaky Norwich backline at St James’s Park.

On Sunday, you could either use a transfer or captain change to give the armband to one of Sergio Aguero or Wayne Rooney. City’s 100% home form speaks for itself and, given Aguero’s recent displays, it’s hard to see him not producing – the only concern may be the absence of their main creative threat, David Silva, against a resilient Tottenham backline. Alternatively Wayne Rooney looks a good option away to Cardiff – the England man is in fine form and with Sky clearly favoring him over β€˜sidekick’ Robin Van Persie in the MoTM awards, he gets our nod.

Finally, for Monday night’s game between West Brom and Aston Villa, we’re backing Christian Benteke to rediscover his goal scoring touch. The Belgian (who is expected to recover from a knee knock) has been slightly unlucky in recent weeks, with a missed spot-kick and several spurned opportunities extending his drought to four matches. By using a transfer to bring in your captain for Sunday’s matches, you can then use your captain change in order to switch to Benteke the following day – another factor that tips the balance in his favour is that it leaves you perfectly set up for Gameweek 16, when Aston Villa play at home to Sunderland on the Saturday.

So then how many of us actually reflect on our transfer decisions to establish if they were positive in terms of points scored in comparison to what we had as options and didn't choose them?
It's almost that debate about gut feeling and whether it was productive and is so on a regular basis.
Just a thought on looking ahead to future gut feeling transfers or bandwagon transfers against what is affordable.

    Jinswick..
    Replied last page.
Bottomline i need the cash. Now i have exactly enough for Mirallas to Walcott. I do however think he is nailed on as with Aluko, Quinn injured and with Graham being crap they only play with one upfront(Sagbo) with probably Koren behind him. This leaves 4 spots for Elmo, Brady, Huddy and Livermore and 4 spots at the back.. Chester will replace Mcshane when back and Rosenior will keep his place. You'll eventually want to downgrade davies to rose/chester as he wont offer all that much more @0.7 more expensive tbh

That's one of the most potent arguments against the strategy of amassing team value - it makes one even more prone to using price as a guide to points.

But in this case, I just can't see RavMo being a better option than Oscar. As mentioned by someone above, RavMo has been extraordinarily lucky with his shot conversion.

Unless you want to write of defensive potential and go attacking. Then either of Lovey or Clyne would be better attack wise. Clyne could get an assist at least.

I don't know where they got that from though. Pellegrini's presser before GW11 said he was out for "up to 4 weeks" which would have had him back for next weekend (home to Swansea)

I was hoping for more detail from The Engineer today but I don't think he gave any.

I was the one pushing the bandwagon uphill. I still will once he returns if he keeps the same sort of involvement in Swansea's goal after his injury.

Posted yesterday but was hoping for a few more thoughts:

Captain debaters, is the way forward to choose an attacker playing against one of your defenders? That way a blown CS could very well be the result of attacking returns that you've doubled.

No. The way forward is to ignore your defenders when choosing your captain, the exception being when you are considering captaining a defender.

Just pick whoever you think will score the most points.

Forget about defenders this week, most have shitty fixtures.

Not sure about captaining that player, but unlike many on here actually like having my players against each other and it provides a bit of insurance. While I dont like Suarez against my defenders, I quite like having Ravel and Terry in my lineup this week. Highish chance of 10 points between the two, which would satisfy me.

If my cheap mid and a defender go head to head every week there is a good chance of 10 points between them, and that will keep me safe only for Suarez/Aguero to do the real damage.

Thanks for the replies -- am just thinking that since I can't figure out who will get the most points between Aguero and Suarez, for example, that Aguero (c) v Walker covers me a bit: an Aguero blank would hopefully result in a Walker CS. There are numbers to crunch here to turn these hunches into probabilities, but not sure if I can sort them out.

With Aluko, Quinn injured and with Graham, Boyd being crap they only play with one upfront(Sagbo) with probably Koren behind him. This leaves 4 spots for Elmo, Brady, Huddy and Livermore and 4 spots at the back.. Chester will replace Mcshane when back and Rosenior should keep his place.

For a draft league, I'd probably keep the Brazilian purely due to his nailed-on'ess. Andros T could quite quickly lose his starting spot.

time to invest in their tallest player and whoever takes corners/throw ins.

Shawcross and Huth were huge threats at set pieces under Pulis.

Anyone know who the likely recipient of a Pulis style - just boot it to the big fella - policy will be?

Its the one with the big giant head in their ranks that I'm most keen on. Probably the first thing Pulis will do is find out who that player is and instruct them to start heading balls at goal forthwith.

Cardiff Man U will be a tight game, Cardiff will park the bus and united without carrick will be disorganised and will score one scrappy goal towards the end for a 1-0 away win.

Everton Liverpool will be a tight game, everton have been poor in attack recently and will park the bus with only a moment of magic fromn luis/steve/phillipe towards the end for a 1-0 away win.

Man City Tottenham will be an open game. AVB will have worked for 2 weeks on movement and plays and getting the best out of his attacking talent, they will come out for at least a point while City at home will attack from the off and can score several against anyone at home. 4-2 home win.
