Michu recovers from injury and manages the full 90 minutes in Swansea’s home draw against Hull. Chico nets for the hosts but is set to miss out miss weekend through suspension, Michel Vorm is likely to require knee surgery, while Robbie Brady warms the Tigers bench as Danny Graham opens his account for the season against his former club:

Michu Back in the Mix
The Spaniard made a surprise return to action last night, having been expected to be sidelined until mid-December. Pre-match, his manager admitted Michu was not yet 100% but still managed to give him the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw – given his lack of match-sharpness, his blank against the Tigers was perhaps understandable but it now means he has failed to score in each of his last six league starts for the Swans. Now down to a mere 6% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and coming in at 8.5, some may still be tempted, but a look at the fixture ticker indicates Swansea have it far from easy over the next few matches – Everton, Chelsea, City, United and Spurs in the next seven suggests last season’s Fantasy phenomenon may well toil to get amongst the goals anytime soon.

Earlier in the day, reports had suggested Wilfried Bony was set to make an appearance from the bench after also recovering quickly from a hamstring injury but Michael Laudrup admitted after the match he’s likely to be a little cautious with the Ivorian:

“Bony is a little better, but we have to be careful because we are talking about a muscle injury. With a muscle injury, if you come back one day too early, you could have a setback and be out for four weeks. We don’t want that.”

Defensive Setbacks for Swans
With three clean sheets in their previous four at the Liberty, a shut-out looked a strong possibility for Swansea last night. Michel Vorm missed out again through an ongoing knee problem, allowing Gerhard Tremmel another chance between the sticks and, whilst the visitors’ early goal killed off the prospects off defensive returns, Chico’s owners were treated to a nine-point haul after the centre-half finally delivered the goal his attacking statistics have hinted at all season. The Spaniard picked up his fifth yellow card of the season late on, however, meaning he will now miss the weekend trip to Norwich. Ashley Williams moved onto the Suspension Tightrope after collecting his fourth booking of the campaign, whilst Laudrup admitted his goalkeeper is likely to require an operation to rectify his problem, though he’s yet to decide when this will take place:

“Michel’s knee is swollen, and he has had a scan today. He can go on, but I think at some point we will have to make a decision at a certain point that he needs surgery. We’re not talking a long period of absence – maybe four or five weeks, maybe a little less.”

Shelvey in the Points Again
Tucked in behind Michu as the most advanced central midfielder, the former Liverpool man supplied the assist for Chico’s equaliser to continue his impressive recent showings. Shelvey has begun to return attacking points at a fairly consistent rate now and has produced the goods in all but one of the last five Gameweeks – with two goals, three assists and three bonus points over that run, he was snapped up by over 161,000 Fantasy managers heading into the weekend deadline and, while his owners will be happy to hold in light of last night’s display, the above-mentioned schedule may be enough to deter many for now.

Brady Benched as Graham Returns to Haunt Swans
While the headlines surrounded Danny Graham’s early opener against his former club, a first goal of the season for the 5.0 priced forward is hardly going to attract Fantasy managers’ attentions. Instead, the omission of Robbie Brady from the Hull XI will have caused plenty consternation to the patient managers who have kept faith in the midfielder over the last few weeks. With Steve Bruce handing Maynor Figueroa the left wing-back role, Brady remained on the visitors’ bench for the entire 90 minutes of the 1-1 draw and now seems to have fallen out of favour due to a lack of form. Owned by 8.7% FPL managers (Liam Rosenior is the second most popular outfield player for Hull with 3.5%), the Republic of Ireland international has now failed to produce any points since Gameweek 6 and now looks set to be offloaded by plenty in light of last night’s non-appearance.

I've been promoted from the bench this morning to cover Jonty with the...

Fantasy Football Scout Daily Hot Topic.

    Today's subject is...

    Other Influences.

There is always a lot of discussion on the site about which is better 'Form or Fixtures', 'Player Value' etc when making a key decision.

But are there any 'other factors' that influence your FPL choice of who to transfer, captain or bench that are perhaps a little less obvious?

Is it discussions on the Scoutcast, the ScoutPicks, or maybe even players involved in televised match.

So, what other influences do you have and how far do they sway your FPL decisions ?

      For me...

      I never captain a defender.

The captain poll does sway me if I am unsure of my pick.

Sometimes I go with the FFS community flow on some bandwagon or other - picking the right one is key (e.g. Boselli)

Players playing against teams that played midweek, while they've had a nice rest.

For example, Arsenal play away to Napoli on Wednesday night, followed by early kick off Saturday away to Man City. Arsenal don't seem to rest players and likely won't, they look tired, especially Ramsey.

For this reason I'd consider this weekend a "blue" fixture in the ticker for Man City when weighing up my potential transfers in.

For this week City do look a good bet even though they are playing Arsenal for the following reasons
City home play today and will rest everyone
Arsenal play away and will play everyone
They have smashed everyone (Man Utd and Spurs included) that comes to the Emirates

Rotation. I'm on the lookout for a budget Chico replacement and I need them to rotate will with Ward. Deciding between Chester and Burner is hard though because Chester has had easier home fixtures so far than what Burner has had. Perhaps Cardiff's home form will pick up with easier fixtures down the line? Or is Hulls defensive form going to hold tough.

Ultimately its still a form/fixtures decision but with player rotation also playing a part.

I normally get bored halfway through the season and lose interest, so this year I decided to do as many transfers as I feel like, in an effort to sustain the interest through to the finish.

Transfer - 1) Price rises, 2) Fixtures 3) form 4) The only player I will NEVER own is JT.

getting on the rises early has been very important this season.

The Scoutcast and Scout Picks have good entertainment value, but FFS's Injury and Team News, Suspension Tightrope, Captain Poll, Scout Tweets and general discussions, together with totalFPL's Price Rises and Fixture Ticker and FPL's own stats are bigger influences.

I wouldn't select a player because he was going to be in a televised match, but playing fantasy football does increase the interest when watching a match on TV, even if none of the players in my squad are playing in it.

The Scout Picks are not an FPL Squad (which ought to reflect the medium and long term, not just the current game-week) they're a Dream Team plus an alternative defender, midfielder and forward (but no alternative goalkeeper). But to make them even more relevant to a Dream Team competition they really ought to abandon the restriction on not having a defender and goalkeeper (or two defenders) from the same team. The Picks ought also to be within a realistic Dream Team budget (whatever that is). And they could perhaps offer a greater number of alternatives.

As far as Season Tickers go, I do not find either the FFS or totalFPL ones to be completely satisfactory. There are probably better ones around, or else go back to the raw data from FPL's Fixtures and Player and Team Stats and make your own judgements.

I trawl through these forums and see who is getting talked about the most and why. Then I just assess the options I like best use the members' area. I find this is most useful for the identifying the best budget options.
Price rises heavily influence my choices at the start of a season. Since a 0.1 change is basically worth 0.5 at that stage.
The scout picks and scout cast are excellent if I still have adjustments to make at that stage of the week.

I went with Redmond simply because I don't trust budget or mid priced mids this year. So I simply prefer to go with the cheaper option if they have enough potential. Redmond is certainly the live wire of that Norwich team.

    A) Burner (WBA)

Tempted by Chester as I stood by him through his injury and he owes me some points.

Have all of the above bar Rooney, and personally think it'd be mad to take it off Suarez. You can't bet against form like his, and he's hardly a flat-track bully considering the returns he got at Goodison. Everton are a better side than Spurs this year, so if he can score well there, I back him to do so at Tottenham.

Need some opinions on this dilemma - which transfer to make:

    Whittingham < Barkley
    or
    Shelvey < Fer

yes, very involved in their play. Always a threat in the air and with runs into the box. Has quite a few touches in the box too. He always scored a lots of goals at Feyenoord and Twente so this run was to be expected.
