The day’s early kick-off dominates the day and hearts and minds of Fantasy managers as a midfield heavy-hitter announces his return, just as a vital component of the template attack suffers a potential injury setback.

The Game Changer

Fernandinho’s two-goal salvo amongst City’s six goals were clearly up there with the day’s major contributions but, in Fantasy terms, Theo Walcott’s brace for the beaten visitors will have more of an impact.

Handed his first start since his return from injury, Walcott followed up on his two assists from the bench in Gameweeks 13 and 15 with two goals and a double-figure return that will have Fantasy managers on alert.

While Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil have rightly dominated our thinking within the Arsenal midfield to this point, Walcott offers a more explosive alternative with a proven record for goals. Having notched 14 goals and 13 assists last term, Walcott has pedigree and, in a World Cup year, the incentive to impress over the remainder of the season.

While many will contemplate just how today’s devastating defeat will impact on Wenger’s troops, Fantasy managers will now be assessing Walcott’s credentials and perhaps examining the option of trading out Ozil or even Ramsey to capitalise on a player who is capable of surpassing both in the midfield rankings.

With under 4% ownership, Walcott could be a real asset for those searching out a differential with the potential for explosive double-figure returns.

The Selection Poser

While our midfield options appear to have increased, today’s early kick-off may have delivered a major blow to our forward lines.

Sergio Aguero’s withdrawal early on in the second half at the Etihad caused tremors throughout the Fantasy Football community.

The Argentine had earlier notched thirteenth league goal of the season – his third in three outings. A calf injury then ended Aguero’s day, with Manuel Pellegrini later stating that, at this point, he was unsure just “how many weeks he will be outâ€.

Such a statement would suggest that Aguero will sit out the Gameweek 17 trip to Fulham – although that is far from certain given the hurried prognosis.

A scan is imminent and, fortunately, City’s midweek Capital One Cup tie will bring Pellegrini in front of the press microscope once more.

Very soon we should be clear on Aguero’s situation and at that point we can begin to asses whether it’s worth holding a player who, in recent weeks, has threatened to achieve “essential†status.

A term of absence could signal a shake-up. Aguero is an injury-prone asset who may take time to recover from a spell on the sidelines. While he’s is a vital cog for Pellegrini, the City boss has options with Edin Dzeko, Steven Jovetic and the possibility of a 4-5-1 system helping him to cope without his start striker – Aguero will not be rushed back.

Focus will now switch to Wayne Rooney at Villa tomorrow. Returns for the United man will cement his likely status as the obvious replacement to Aguero, although, given City’s goal output, some will surely consider Alvaro Negredo. The Spaniard claimed his seventh of the season today and has scored in all of City’s last five home matches.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not ludicrous. His style is only counter attack. After West Brom finished 8th teams give them more respect, so his tactics are ineffective.

This is true, but he did assemble a quality squad and I feel they have left him down - anyone watching them recently would be sympathetic to that view I think. He already successfully rebuilt the team on deadline day but couldnt pull off miracles all the time. The players and fans at Brom have had quite a defeatist mentality for a long time before he arrived.

Some people are rushing to sell Aguero. Not heard the prognosis but don't understand the rush. He won't fall today and half the owners won't lose value unless he falls 0.2m. So what's the rush. If he's out till New Year then sell as a speedy return is easily accommodated with the Jan WC. But transferring players in who may get injured or rested is pointless.

I agree, but if you saw the injury, you know he is out at least a couple gameweeks, so people with a tight budget are justified to take the risk. Pellegrini was also talking about weeks when saying they will see what the prognosis is, and that is for a reason

I almost always transfer on Saturday morning and have not taken my first early transfer in months lightly, I normally don't do them. It's just a cost benefit analysis. If I don't act tonight, I can't afford Lukaku and Walcott (or Silva) for free. I have 2 FT. In the worst case scenario I will spend a hit if I need one, but I believe I'm actually putting my team's long term future first by acting now. It's the opposite of a knee jerk.

People actually make transfers on the Saturday all the time as a strategy, it has been irritating me as a late transferrer how rarely this fails and how much team value they gain.

Oh yes I hear that, but I think he's definitely a long term choice you hold and pick up the inevitable explosions. Think back to his form before the Liverpool game, everyone wrote him off. You just keep playing him knowing he explodes on a semi regular basis. We've been quite happy to own all three of the most expensive strikers in the game bar RVP, at 3m+ cheaper it should be much easier with Lukaku particularly given the lack of reliable mids.

I'd add a caveat to this; If you're the type of person who is concerned about catching 0.1 price rises (like those looking at Lukaku or Hazard who are rising) - or - planning a hit that incorporates 2 players rising then I can see not waiting on Aguero's status. So it may be more about the inflation in player cost that these owners are looking at transferring in potentially rather than the worrying about the possibility of losing Kun value (as you adroitly point out as a silly concern right now).

Kun does have a history; leg injuries are notorious for needing at least 1 game off, the injury and his reaction didn't look promising and City will be cautious with him.

And yet there is a WC coming up so a chance to reorganise to get the latest must-haves. Not worth chasing 0.1m now unless you're buying a season-keeper which won't be the case if you're selling Aguero.

There is that WC opportunity looming, but there's a lot of matches between now and that WC...the moves people make for the uber busy festive period will be key in many a team's fortunes. And improving finances by grabbing rises when you can does add up over time...

Hmm, I don't know... Chelsea haven't been getting clean sheets, so I might be better off with cheap Cardiff/Palace rotation, Rooney should score more than Aguero's 0, and Silva could quite easily get twice as many points as Barkley. -8 is a big hit though, obviously.

…and Burner has tough matches with 2 good homers in the next 6 weeks. If you are trying to ride a price rise - there's no guarantee that he'll go up 0.2 this week.

Double rise for Burner might happen - but what if Rooney gets injured tomorrow ?
Seems a bit rushed to hit -8 with chance of an injury tomorrow (but then again I've done similar in the past myself !!!)

I think I'd rather ditch Barkley than Whittingham - have Lukaku and prefer Whitt's complete lack of rotation risk on my bench... Main thing is that I'd really think Silva's going to score big. Could also do Whittingham/Aguero to Silva/Negredo for -4.

I think Everton were unlucky to concede a goal today, the penalty was rightly given but it wasn't a massive error. I think Clean sheets will keep coming.

The aguero injury is very interesting, I'd initially thought of Lukaku or Remy as replacements (I have Rooney) but Remy missed two very good chances and doesn't seem his usual self. If there are many others like me I can see lots of Aguero -> Lukaku and then Cheap mids being upgraded to silva/wally/hazaard type.

You can see last 8 seasons Arsenal are weak minded. Just look at their players they are not winners they are not born to win they are weak minded. There are only 4 players in their squad with the mentaility needed to win a title or even a trophy.

very harsh but true. If one of their key (or fist 11) players are out they tend to do bad. When Mert was ill they lost to Man U, Kos got injured and no Gibbs) they got smashed.

Here are the 4 players that I believe have the mentality to win a title:
Kosciely (injured) Vermaelen (doesnt even play) Ramsey and Wilshere. Everyone else has not bottle.

                    Utter rubbish.

                    A) Kos being injured and Verm not playing cancel each other out...

                    B) Ozil has won multiple league titles

                    C) Mert has 95 caps for Germany (not exactly a poor winning mentality the germans...)

                    D) Gibbs - never looks phased.

                    E) Rosicky - hugely experienced, national captain.

                    F) Podolski - won the title and the cup.

So, was already looking at major changes before Aguero news, and some of my targets/outbound players seem to be in the mix for price changes so I don't have luxury of sleep on it.

Terry, Oscar, Aguero > Coleman, Hazard, Rooney a sound move? (for -8; feel comfortable with hit if moves are right ones!)

Or should I ship out Migs (who's falling), and wait on Aguero news?

    aguero lukaku suarez

    thinking bout either

    A) aguero and morrison to silva + torres or someone else like dzeko.. maybe cheaper.. will leave me a solid bench option when rotation does kick in and also a very strong midfield.

    b) aguero to negredo + morrison to silva + dawson to ward

    or

    C) aguero and coutinho to rooney and silva

I was 65 points behind my ML leader after GW12.

Today I am now 1st, beating him by 2 points.

He has Rooney & DDG to my JEvans.

1-1 with an Evans goal and I will stay top.

[0-0 with a Rooney RC would just about work....]

I wish I was enjoying the same. I moved into the top 50,000 for the first time today...just as my ML leader moved into the top 500...grrrr...

yeah I edged into 80K today up from 1.2M back in GW7
Not quite on it overall yet but the ML helps keep it interesting....

I prefer mini league by miles...I'm not really that bothered about overall but I wish it was a bit tighter...How can I compete with somebody who brings in Chamakh before he starts scoring ?...why would he do that?
