The day’s early kick-off dominates the day and hearts and minds of Fantasy managers as a midfield heavy-hitter announces his return, just as a vital component of the template attack suffers a potential injury setback.

The Game Changer

Fernandinho’s two-goal salvo amongst City’s six goals were clearly up there with the day’s major contributions but, in Fantasy terms, Theo Walcott’s brace for the beaten visitors will have more of an impact.

Handed his first start since his return from injury, Walcott followed up on his two assists from the bench in Gameweeks 13 and 15 with two goals and a double-figure return that will have Fantasy managers on alert.

While Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil have rightly dominated our thinking within the Arsenal midfield to this point, Walcott offers a more explosive alternative with a proven record for goals. Having notched 14 goals and 13 assists last term, Walcott has pedigree and, in a World Cup year, the incentive to impress over the remainder of the season.

While many will contemplate just how today’s devastating defeat will impact on Wenger’s troops, Fantasy managers will now be assessing Walcott’s credentials and perhaps examining the option of trading out Ozil or even Ramsey to capitalise on a player who is capable of surpassing both in the midfield rankings.

With under 4% ownership, Walcott could be a real asset for those searching out a differential with the potential for explosive double-figure returns.

The Selection Poser

While our midfield options appear to have increased, today’s early kick-off may have delivered a major blow to our forward lines.

Sergio Aguero’s withdrawal early on in the second half at the Etihad caused tremors throughout the Fantasy Football community.

The Argentine had earlier notched thirteenth league goal of the season – his third in three outings. A calf injury then ended Aguero’s day, with Manuel Pellegrini later stating that, at this point, he was unsure just “how many weeks he will be out”.

Such a statement would suggest that Aguero will sit out the Gameweek 17 trip to Fulham – although that is far from certain given the hurried prognosis.

A scan is imminent and, fortunately, City’s midweek Capital One Cup tie will bring Pellegrini in front of the press microscope once more.

Very soon we should be clear on Aguero’s situation and at that point we can begin to asses whether it’s worth holding a player who, in recent weeks, has threatened to achieve “essential” status.

A term of absence could signal a shake-up. Aguero is an injury-prone asset who may take time to recover from a spell on the sidelines. While he’s is a vital cog for Pellegrini, the City boss has options with Edin Dzeko, Steven Jovetic and the possibility of a 4-5-1 system helping him to cope without his start striker – Aguero will not be rushed back.

Focus will now switch to Wayne Rooney at Villa tomorrow. Returns for the United man will cement his likely status as the obvious replacement to Aguero, although, given City’s goal output, some will surely consider Alvaro Negredo. The Spaniard claimed his seventh of the season today and has scored in all of City’s last five home matches.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Ofc he is an option and I told you this before his goal today. Absoloutley world class player and just needed a new manager, he played bad under Jol on purpose because they didnt get on well and Berbs was happy for him to get the sack. Why would he score goals to save his job? Now hewill start scoring for fun.

I'd be carefull about losing Ozil...Wally is a great pick but don't forget he is a bit of an injury magnet...in fact a lot of one. Ozil has got 37 points in four weeks...do you really think Wally will better that ?...I'm not sure.

It's easy to think the WC will solve all but using it day 1 of Jan will only leave you taking more hits later as transfers change things up. Realistically it's 7 GWs until I would play mine.

    Howard
    terry jagielka dawson chester williams
    hazard walcott coutinho ramsey morrison
    aguero lukaku suarez

    thinking bout either

    A) aguero and morrison to silva + torres or someone else like dzeko.. maybe cheaper.. will leave me a solid bench option when rotation does kick in and also a very strong midfield.

    b) aguero to negredo + morrison to silva + dawson to wardor

    C) aguero and coutinho to rooney and silva

obviously I will wait till all the aguero news + liverpool result

all well and good in theory-you should always thank the travelling supporters-but after a 6-3 drubbing i reckon you might just want to crawl away and hide. its not the right thing to do, and is a bit disrespectful on Ozils part, but you don't always do the right thing in moments like that and I think he should be forgiven.

he did wrong and was told. End of story

Let's not be petty and drag it on. Mert dealt with the situation there and then like a man. Ozil excepted he was wrong and apologised.

Nothing else more to it, no big deal

If I was an Arsenal fan - I'd be happy that he was too cheesed off about losing to say thanks.

A one-off omission is completely understandable.

If he never bothered every week then that would be a disgrace…..but not after a 6-3 drubbing in a 6-pointer. I would WANT him to be in a pout.
I bet he won't do it again…..if he does then perhaps my opinion will change.

Rant : For me and anyone that knows me I have been unreserved in saying long before this ' bad run ' that David Moyes should never have been given this position. Losing the back room staff was appalling especially Mike Phelan in a handover but to appoint not only Moyes and then his ' rookie ' assistant - Phil Neville was a calamity waiting to happen . This current standing of Manchester United is simply not good enough and the Glaziers do not have the wherewithal to steer us out of it , I genuinely fear the worst and recall the dark days of Ron Atkinson and those early Saf years That's the problem ain't it ? - he's a good manager not a great one and the days of man Utd having time to rebuild are long gone not with the money Sky and the Sheiks etc have bought. We are one of the top names in the world in anything not to mention Sport . Transition ? Why does one of the biggest clubs in the world need time for transition ? I'm really tempted to switch over to a five-man midfield and just downgrade Kun to Jrod.

    Silva, Özil, Hazzard, Wally, Ramsey

Good enough midfield to cover the lack of Rooney? I'm just not sold on his greatness.

Will also allow me to upgrade chico to zabaleta/walker which is a nice bonus.

Yep, going to watch the game tomorrow, and pay very close attention to the tubby one. Absence of rvp is a point in his favor too.

Wally is a must though, I think.

Can lukaku get any luckier? 3 lucky assists in 3 games. Hasn't done much apart from this. Better to consider other options to replace aguero if he is out for a few weeks?

I agree with you Bemba. Lukaku is an awful striker. No wonder Mourinho didn't want him. I don't know why I have him in my team though.

I think lukaku is a very good player though, I just think his points have been extremely lucky the past few weeks and for many times I have seen him he doesn't really influence the game too many times.

I mean today his chances involved the ball bouncing off different parts of his body. One bounced off him and he nearly scored, another hit his arm and he got an assist.

Not sure I can put up with the frustation of owning someone who could potentially explode but majority of the time doesn't really get involved like a rooney, an aguero, suarez

He doesn't get involved because he's not good enough. Yes, he's strong, but other than that he's SHIT!!

Agreed, be patient with Lukaku and you will catch his explosions over the long term

Remember what everyone thought before the Liverpool game. He is a force of nature who will not necessarily score when you want, but he will score.

10 goals by Everton, Lukaku has one and three lucky assists.

      Yes, I'd look elsewhere.

Have some deadwood in Giroud, Sess and G.Johnson.

Only issue is that Sess has HUL and Johnson has CAR - which I feel I should give them one more.

    I have 2 potential transfers:
Johnson --> Williamson and Sess --> Silva
    or
Johnson --> Williamson and Giroud --> Rooney

Is it worth waiting a week?
