The day’s early kick-off dominates the day and hearts and minds of Fantasy managers as a midfield heavy-hitter announces his return, just as a vital component of the template attack suffers a potential injury setback.

The Game Changer

Fernandinho’s two-goal salvo amongst City’s six goals were clearly up there with the day’s major contributions but, in Fantasy terms, Theo Walcott’s brace for the beaten visitors will have more of an impact.

Handed his first start since his return from injury, Walcott followed up on his two assists from the bench in Gameweeks 13 and 15 with two goals and a double-figure return that will have Fantasy managers on alert.

While Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil have rightly dominated our thinking within the Arsenal midfield to this point, Walcott offers a more explosive alternative with a proven record for goals. Having notched 14 goals and 13 assists last term, Walcott has pedigree and, in a World Cup year, the incentive to impress over the remainder of the season.

While many will contemplate just how today’s devastating defeat will impact on Wenger’s troops, Fantasy managers will now be assessing Walcott’s credentials and perhaps examining the option of trading out Ozil or even Ramsey to capitalise on a player who is capable of surpassing both in the midfield rankings.

With under 4% ownership, Walcott could be a real asset for those searching out a differential with the potential for explosive double-figure returns.

The Selection Poser

While our midfield options appear to have increased, today’s early kick-off may have delivered a major blow to our forward lines.

Sergio Aguero’s withdrawal early on in the second half at the Etihad caused tremors throughout the Fantasy Football community.

The Argentine had earlier notched thirteenth league goal of the season – his third in three outings. A calf injury then ended Aguero’s day, with Manuel Pellegrini later stating that, at this point, he was unsure just “how many weeks he will be out”.

Such a statement would suggest that Aguero will sit out the Gameweek 17 trip to Fulham – although that is far from certain given the hurried prognosis.

A scan is imminent and, fortunately, City’s midweek Capital One Cup tie will bring Pellegrini in front of the press microscope once more.

Very soon we should be clear on Aguero’s situation and at that point we can begin to asses whether it’s worth holding a player who, in recent weeks, has threatened to achieve “essential” status.

A term of absence could signal a shake-up. Aguero is an injury-prone asset who may take time to recover from a spell on the sidelines. While he’s is a vital cog for Pellegrini, the City boss has options with Edin Dzeko, Steven Jovetic and the possibility of a 4-5-1 system helping him to cope without his start striker – Aguero will not be rushed back.

Focus will now switch to Wayne Rooney at Villa tomorrow. Returns for the United man will cement his likely status as the obvious replacement to Aguero, although, given City’s goal output, some will surely consider Alvaro Negredo. The Spaniard claimed his seventh of the season today and has scored in all of City’s last five home matches.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

      I try to wait as long as possible, while keeping an eye on the price changes.
      Injuries are piling up, so no need to move too early unless you will lose value and would miss out on transfers if you delay.

    Hi guys. Was thinking this for a 12 point hit

    Aguero --> Rooney
    Terry --> Burner
    Ozil --> Silva
    Brady --> Walcott

    Should I do it and prepare for the GW18 fantasy cup. 🙂

      I am assuming you are doing this after the end of games today. While the transfers look good, don't think it's worthy of a 12pt hit.

        Yes. Doing theses changes will give me a line up of

        Mannone
        Burner Coleman Chester fonte Williams
        Silva Walcott hazard coutinho Morrison
        Saurez Lukaku Rooney

        Which means my front 7 is practically fixed every game week

        Very tempting to do it. Just not sure 12 points is worth it

                  Hm...ya..this is what i hate about this game. Your differential gets blown quick if they perform. For instance so many people adviced me to drop Wally for the game. Now most are talking about downgrading Ozil to Wally!..and Ramsey to Wally!

                    No one could have predicted a 6-3 thriller between Ars/City.

                    Wally have been killing his owners the last 3 weeks. Kudos for getting his points.

                    I just feel I shouldn't get Lukaku if I want to gain ground.

      Away at City is one of the hardest games of the season, they were always going to lose yesterday imo.

      Chelsea next week will be interesting, personally i dont think Arsenal will be top come new year but they are still a good team.

      Ozil is gone for me, ramsey does the job for half (initial) price. I dont want an arsenal defender esp if kosc is out for a while.

      Told you to play Ramsey.

      😉

      Looks like some Ward points from your bench.

        Yeah, at least it only cost me 2 points I guess.

        Has Evra been ruled out then?

    Anybody know how Forca did?..Poor soul must be kicking himself for transfering out Wally and also getting in Nasr instead of Silva.

        Even though Walcott has Chelsea next. I know they are leaking but, Silva vs Fulham?

    Is Cabaye at 6.5 worth it? Has some decent fixtures coming up but not sure about his position. Does he play too deep? I am not convinced by set pieces only!

      He's on Pens and it has helped yaya alot. Has a decent shot on him and has good assist potential. For 6.5 thats pretty good upside imo

      Most of his goals have been from open play.
      Haven't you heard? It's the year of the deep-lying midfielder. (Ramsey, Yaya, Cabaye, Fer). They all seem to have the freedom to make runs from deep, and defences are not coping too well.

    Well my Everton punt didn't work this week - put in Howard, Jags an Lukaku (c) for a hit 🙁 Over the next few gameweeks they look sound though.

    I guess Ozil> Silva and Aguero>Rooney looks like the best solution if Aguero is out.

        Agreed. Barry had a 1 second brain frat and cost them the clean sheet other wise they looked strong.

    Yay or Nay:
    Aguero, Koscielny & JWP -> Negredo, Ward & Walcott.(-4)

    Would leave me with:
    Marshall Myhill
    Chester Burner Ward GJ Coleman
    Fer Oscar Hazard Ramsey Walcott
    Negredo Rooney Suarez

    Defence would be a little thin, but they rotate well enough. It only has to last until the january wildcard.
    I'd have a benching dilemma up front, but that will be a good problem to have over the festive period.

        No, but downgrading GJ to a 5.0 defender, then I would.
        I might do that anyway (downgrade GJ), since Liverpool clean sheets have dried up. After gw17, their fixture list is a bit tricky...

      If money is no object... Walcott. Mirallas' place is under threat. He had a goal from 20 minutes or so of game time yesterday.

      Walcott. He's very fresh after injury.
      Mirallas isn't nailed on, but notice that Deulofeu get hamstring injury.

    Bought Aguero @11.2, now he is at 12.5, will really hurt selling him coz I'll want him as soon as he is back. But if he is out, how does this sound for future transfers?

    a) GJ+Oviedo+Aguero -> Williamson+Wally+Lukaku

    b) GJ+Whitt+Aguero -> Williamson+Wally+Negredo

    So it comes down to -

    a) Whitt + Lukaku or b) Oviedo + Negredo

      A) for the safe option
      B) for a punt until the wild card

      Oviedo wont keep his place to too much longer, but I guess it only has to last until the wildcard. If your bench is strong enough, then I'd say go for B.
      I prefer Negredo to Lukaku, but that's just a matter of preference. Both Man City and Everton can score goals without Negredo/Lukaku necessarily being involved.

    Pick one: Have 2 FT's and 0.1 in bank

    A) Aguero + Sess => Roo + Cabaye
    B) Aguero + Sess => Roo + Sterling
    C) Aguero + Barkley => Roo + Sterling
    D) Aguero + Sess => Negredo + Silva
    E) Aguero + Sess=> Negredo + Walcott
    F) Aguero + Sess=> Remy + Silva
    G) Aguero + Sess=> Remy + Walcott
    H) Aguero + Ramsey => Roo + Oscar
