Sergio Agueroโ€™s calf injury in the 6-3 win over Arsenal has served up a potential major setback for thousands of Fantasy managers. With Manuel Pellegrini offering us little insight into the severity of the injury and a scan imminent, we can only wait on news from the Etihad. However, resident Fantasy Football Scout physio, Facer, has made a timely return to offer his early view. Analysing the incident involved and Agueroโ€™s reaction and movement, hereโ€™s Facerโ€™s detailed report and his take on the likely prognosis.

The incident occurred barely a minute into the second half and gives a clear indication of the mechanism of injury. Playing a one-two with David Silva, Sergio Aguero receives the ball and with one touch plays it back into the path of Silva. Almost immediately Aguero starts to limp and, several seconds later, in an attempt to take the pressure from the injury, falls on to his back. At first glance the incident looked fairly innocuous, but with closer inspection, we see that the former Atletico man didnโ€™t quite have the time to position himself correctly and improvises a one-touch pass into Silvaโ€™s run with a subtly excessive rotation at the right hip. This is significant because the contracting Gluteal muscles produce a rotatory force at the hip and, with the studs of Agueroโ€™s right boot planted firmly in the ground, severely restricting movement at the hip and ankles, this force had nowhere to go, resulting in a tear to one of the calf muscles.

As Aguero is lying on the ground his demeanour is interesting. He does not appear to be in a great deal of pain and he is not reaching for the injury. In terms of severity, these are positive signs. Suffering a severe calf strain is like being shot in the back of the leg and Aguero would have hit the ground immediately and would need to have been stretchered off. We then see the Argentine hobble from the field. It is worth noting that, although exhibiting severely restricted movement at the right ankle, Aguero is able to partially weight bear on the injured limb, giving us a further clue as to the severity and likely duration of any absence. Similarly, as Aguero is led from the field, we can observe him palpating the back of his calf towards the โ€˜bellyโ€™ of the Gastrocnemius, suggesting a tear to the meat of the muscle rather than attachments, which heals more quickly. In summary, I would suggest that Aguero has suffered a grade 1-2 calf strain, which would see him sidelined for a minimum of 10 days, but more likely 2-3 weeks. Sadly for his owners, that would see Aguero miss at least the next three league outings.

A Scout Disclaimer: While Facer offers an expert’s view of such injuries, with just a remote assessment to go on, the opinions expressed here should not be taken as fact or acted on with any degree of certainty.

Terry and Lallana > Ward/Burner and Walcott (for a -4)

    would leave me with:

    Migs

    Merts - Coleman - Chester

    Hazard - Ramsey - Silva - Walcott - Oviedo

    Suarez - Lukaku

    bnch - Ward/Burner, Aguero, Dawson

    Good idea????

If you paid 11.8 and he is 12.5, the difference is 0.7

                    You bank 0.3

You should be selling at 12.1

Yup, I don't think you need to do anymore as painful as it is to watch Brady's value drop. Unless you only did a -4. I'd keep Terry, I fancy him to do something at Arsenal, I'm starting him in my XI.

    hey up

being far too lazy to go read everything posted on the site for the past day, can anyone sum up for me what to do with aguero?

i am guessing sell sell sell?

is ROONEY a good option or is he now sitting back letting Welbeck get all the points?

All hating aside. I'm just asking: Could Welbeck be an option? Short time.. He played up front and got two goals and Man United won confirtably with Rooney deep. Surely Welbeck should get rewarded for a new start against West Ham. At 7.0 you could afford Silva in as City cover. Just a thought..

I've just caught myself seriously considering him.

This is a bad sign, as I have consistently slated him for the last two seasons for being shit and never scoring goals

Yup, me too, I'm just not quite convinced by Negredo, and Rooney is a more obvious pick

The thing with Welbeck is if he does well then that's a goal every other game or so on average.
If Rooney does well then that's double figure points hauls

Bringing inn Welbeck would be the move that made you look brilliant if it worked out and a complete idiot if failed. I will sleep on it. Can afford Kun to drop. If I brought in Danny I would also go Shelvey->Silva

I don't think we need to worry if we didn't captain suarez this week. It was logical to have Aguero as captain or Lukaku for that matter so all people who captained Suarez are either casual player who won't be competing till the end who just went for a punt or they were people who simply forgot to change their captain choice, and therefore should not be a threat to the ffs keen players. It is logic not random punts that win you most of the time imo.

Disagree, and I captained Rooney not Suarez. Suarez is in incredible form, Spurs have conceded a lot recently and are playing Capoue at CB. There were just 3 or 4 good options, many were always going to pick the wrong one.

Best striker in the world at the moment. Aguero was against league leaders Arsenal with a stubborn defence. Lukaku in good form but I didn't want to place the armband on him. Been stung before by that against Palace.

Uncertain of what to do, the best logical choice for me was to leave it on the player banging in goals for fun. Cleared 100 points this week. Chuffed to bits 8)
