Wayne Rooney is struggling to be fit for United’s home game with West Ham. Jack Wilshere is handed a two-match ban by the FA. Robert Snodgrass and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel are named in the Norwich squad. Ben Foster is available for West Brom, James Tomkins is back for West Ham, whilst Nathaniel Clyne has returned to training for Southampton:

Reports suggest Wayne Rooney is losing his battle to be fit for the visit of West Ham. The United forward remains a real doubt after missing out in the midweek cup win over Stoke – the Telegraph reckon he may not even be amongst the subs to face Sam Allardyce’s side. Elsewhere, Nemanja Vidic is ready to return after missing the last two games with a minor injury.

James Tomkins has returned to the Hammers squad after missing the midweek cup win at Spurs with an ongoing groin problem, though Sam Allardyce has hinted he’s set to rotate over the busy next few matches.

Ben Foster is back in contention for West Brom’s home game against Hull. Caretaker boss Keith Downing has revealed he has a fully fit squad to choose from, with Nicolas Anelka and Victor Anichebe both available after missing out against Cardiff.

Jack Wilshere has been slapped with a two-match ban for a gesture towards the City fans in last weekend’s defeat at the Etihad. The midfielder misses Arsenal’s upcoming games against Chelsea and West Ham.

Chris Hughton has confirmed Robert Snodgrass and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel will return to the Norwich squad after weeks out with knee and toe injuries respectively. Both players are in contention to start against Sunderland – the Dutchman was ”touch and go” for last week’s trip to Swansea, while the Scot has trained all week.

Sunderland have been boosted by the return of Steven Fletcher and Jack Colback for the home game with Norwich. Both players missed the midweek cup victory over Chelsea with illness but are back in training – Kieran Westwood and Carlos Cuellar remain sidelined for the Black Cats, though.

Gerhard Tremmel is set to start between the sticks for Swansea’s game with Everton, with Michel Vorm sidelined due to knee surgery. Chico Flores is available after serving a one-match ban and recovering from a knee problem, while Leon Britton has recovered from a toe problem.

Villa skipper Ron Vlaar is still struggling to overcome a calf problem, Paul Lambert conceded yesterday. Chris Herd is set to return to the Villa squad, though, as they make their way to the Britannia.

Mauricio Pochettino is optimistic of a return to action for Nathaniel Clyne against Spurs this weekend. Earlier this morning, the Southampton boss revealed the defender is back in training and will be assessed prior to Sunday’s clash at St Mary’s.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream for breaking news as Friday’s press conferences unfold.

Worth the 8 point hit? Worried I have no City coverage otherwise and have exact money so unlikely to be possible next week.

probably. sturridge and aspas are i think his main threats. it will only take one bad performance though for him to be at risk and you don't have to worry about the former for a while.

I think reasonable is the word.

Not 100% nailed on, but is in pole position at the moment given his recent performances.

          Expect the odd rotation/rest though.

    Week of the casual?

The ten players most transferred in today are:
    Negredo
    Suarez
    Lukaku
    Coleman
    Toure
    Henderson
    Wellbeck
    Evra
    Nasri
    Silva

    - all with good form and fixtures (apart from Hendo who had one good game).
So as many of this site have taken hits and with every man and his dog captaining Suarez this could be a week to forget, perhaps don't get too downbeat if your rank doesn't significantly change.

I say they are just making sensible moves which some on this site are deliberately avoiding for the sake of trying to be different. Then they wonder why they are struggling this season and call the more successful players casuals.

          Ha, brilliant, cheers πŸ™‚

That's really useful. I play the sky sports super 6 game and have been doing 2-1's all season as an experiment as I heard somewhere that that was the most popular score.. - may have to change now πŸ˜‰

Ah, gotcha - I could probably do some more detailed analysis of common scorelines when a top 4 team plays a mid table team, for example but that would involve some extra work to define what team belongs in which category for each season. Also, there'll always be at least one fixture which buggers everything up anyway!

Ha, don't worry about it, mate - you've done more than enough, lol.

              Although, if you're bored... πŸ˜‰

I dunno if you play the Super 6 or not, but, basically, you get 2 points for a 'Correct Result' (i.e, if you get the home win, draw or away win right), then you get 3 bonus points for the 'Correct Score'. So what I've been doing is 2-1's for the favourite of each match - therefore putting the odds in my favour each week for getting both sets of points - the 'Correct Results' keep me ticking over, bascialy.

Last year you didn't get any points for the 'Correct Result' so I just went 1-1's for every game (picked the right one according to your stats πŸ™‚ ). But this year is obviously different and I've wanted more chance of getting the 'Correct Result' points, hence why I've gone for 2-1's.

So, if you could find the most common win scoreline for the favourite for each game then that would be great. Obviously no worries if you just wanna enjoy your holidays though, lol...

              Cheers πŸ™‚

Sounds a bit like the Talksport Predictorleague that I take part in (just a mini-league between friends, I don't play seriously).

I might add in the final league position of each team to my data - will only be a rough guide as obviously a team finishing 6th might have been 17th in October but trying to bring in the league positions of each team at the time each game was played is a bit more than I'm motivated to do!

That will allow me to slice the data along the lines of "top 4 vs relegated", "upper mid table vs lower mid table", etc. Might end up being meaningless and it might not be until Jan now as family stuff takes over but I'll post it at some point in the new year.

Yeah, it sounds quite similar game. Funnily enough, Adrian Durham off of TalkSport is the one that said that 2-1's were the most popular scoreline,...

Awesome thread. I also play super6 and got 6 results right for the first time last week!

I've also known many to play the 1-1 tactic, but if there's only a 1 in 9 chance of it happening and many others are using the same tactic it's probably better to be more outlandish on some fixtures.
It's free and you get £250k if you get 6 correct scores, and a weekly prize of like £10k for the weekly winner.

                      Nice πŸ™‚

Yeah, the only annoying thing about picking the same score for each game is that you've got very little chance of ever winning the 250k. Although, the nearest I've ever got was in the first week this season when there were five 2-1's and one 1-0 - my golden minute meant i missed out on the £10k, though...

But, it clearly shows that we're not the only ones with the idea. Still, though, it means that you've basically got your ML's wrapped up each season which wins the bragging rights πŸ™‚

1.) Do not take a hit for a goalkeeper when you have another one to play. For him to get 0 points requires 4 goals conceded and barely any saves. It's very unlikely. And big keeper scores away at pool are not unheard of.
2.) Mannone is an awful replacement anyway. Speroni/Marshall is the rotation to have, but again, not for a hit.

    Budget defender query -

In order to move to a midfield of wally silva haz ramsey I am going to downgrade Terry - budget 4.1

Already have Chester and Ward, struggling to find anyone playing 90 minutes (now that Burner is 4.2).

    Ideas?

whittaker lost his place to Russell Martin a couple of times recently ... McCartney/Baker looks interesting, need to see if Villa can keep a c/s without Vlaar.

Play Coleman (swa) or Ward (NEW).
    I have Howard.

Leaning towards Coleman. Seen the swans vs. hull and wasn't impressed with them.
