Michu goes under the knife to cure an ongoing ankle complaint. Southampton’s injury problems ease ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Danny Welbeck is back in training for United. John O’Shea is a doubt for Sunderland’s visit to Everton. Leighton Baines is back for Everton, whilst Dimitar Berbatov is set for a late fitness test before Fulham’s Boxing Day clash with Norwich:

Swansea have been dealt a blow with the news that Michu will undergo an ankle operation to cure the problems that have troubled him for much of the season. Michael Laudrup admitted he expects to be without his talisman for up to six weeks.

Southampton could welcome back a number of their walking wounded for the visit to Cardiff. Luke Shaw and Pablo Osvaldo are doubts after missing the loss to Spurs with a throat infection and a knock to the right leg respectively. Nathaniel Clyne and Kelvin Davis are “approaching full fitness”, however, and could also feature against the Bluebirds.

Danny Welbeck is back in training for United after recovering from the sore knee that forced him off against West Ham. Reports suggest the forward has travelled with the squad to Hull on Boxing Day. Elsewhere, Nemanja Vidic “is fine” following injury and a throat infection in the past week.

Dimitar Berbatov is a doubt for Fulham’s clash with Norwich after missing the loss to City with a groin problem. Rene Meulensteen remains hopeful the Bulgarian will pass a late test to feature at Carrow Road, though the visitors will be without Philippe Senderos, who is ruled out next two league encounters after coming off injured early with a left abductor problem.

Leighton Baines is available for selection once again after a month out with a broken toe. Meanwhile, Nikica Jelavic is a doubt with a hamstring problem, whilst Roberto Martinez is hopeful of having Steven Pienaar available after he limped off in the second half at Swansea.

John O’Shea is an injury concern for Gus Poyet ahead of the Everton game. The Sunderland captain sustained a shoulder injury in the stalemate with Norwich, and has been assessed by the club’s medical staff. The Black Cats are already without the suspended Wes Brown after the defender saw red against Norwich, and could be forced to field a makeshift centre-back pairing should O’Shea fail to make it.

Jon Flanagan is a concern for Liverpool’s trip to the Etihad. The young defender has a hamstring injury and will be assessed, with Martin Kelly poised to deputise after replacing Flanagan in the second half against Cardiff.

Christian Benteke is “unlikely” to feature in Villa’s home clash against Palace due to a knee problem, though the Belgian has not been ruled out altogether by manager Paul Lambert.

All this, plus plenty of other crumbs of knowledge from around the Premier League press conferences have been collected for you and placed lovingly in our Team News section, along with our predicted lineups. We will keep you updated on any fresh stuff via our Twitter Feed.

If you were going to bring in an arsenal defender this week for Boxing Day other than Mert who would it be?

I could bring him in and for Rosenior and just start Distin/Kompany/Evans as my other defenders with Whittaker first sub and Kosc read for next week.

Does that mean specifically a defender or can it include a goalie? Sczrzsczrszcs (or whoever he is) is bound to play. I don't like Sagna much but he's the most mailed on of the others I guess.

Same dilemma here. I'm choosing one to bench of:
Özil (whu) - Hazard (SWA) - Silva (LIV) - Ramsey (whu) - Barkley (SUN)
Negredo (LIV) - Suárez (mci) - Rooney (HUL)
Of that bunch, I think it has to be Barkley.

So i'm going to buy a new first choice goalie. With the upcoming fixtures I've decided to go either Howard or Szheczhny.

As I already have Coleman, my initial intention was to get Szheczhny. However, SUN and SOT are way better fixtures than whm and new. Infact, they are so good fixtures I am willing to double up defensively, even though I usually don't do that. Arsenal's fixtures get awesome by gw 20 (CAR, avl, FUL, sot, CPL), so getting defensive cover (Koscielny) by this time seems like a good strategy.

    Sound good?

Okay so thanks to the advice at the top of this page I am looking at doing:

    Rosenior > Gibbs

    The team :

    Marshall

    Kompany Evans Distin (Whittaker Rosenior)

    Hazard Walcott Silva Ramsey (Pozuelo)

    Suarez Rooney Negredo

With that in mind, who would you go 4-3-3 benching Whittaker, Ramsey and Pozuelo, or do 3-4-3 and bench Distin (75%), Whittaker and Pozuelo?

Ive got two FT's this week, team is:

McGregor- Nathan Baker, Joel Ward, Coleman- Cabaye, Yaya Toure, Ramsey, Hazard- Lukaku, Rooney, Suarez

Bench: Fonte, Clyne, Ravel M, Myhill

    Im thinking about going for

    Fonte out, Koscielny in

    Myhill out, Gazzaniga in

Kosc has 'only' got a cut on his knee and 75% chance of playing

The armband this week is a bit of a conundrum, but the prime candidates are clearly Suarez, Rooney and Lukaku, yes? I feel that I should go for Lukaku, but Suarez could very well punish me again. I don't buy the notion that City will tighten up, Arsenal scored 3 at the Etihad and should have had more, Liverpool and Suarez are in top form, Man City aren't even that great defensively in my opinion anyway, gotta be Suarez

Hazard and Walcott are decent options too.

Feel very nervous taking the armband of a striker this season

Away to hull (Rooney) or away to manc (Suarez), Rooney more likely to score more despite of suarez beeing suarez.

Im torn between Lukaku and Suarez, do not think Utd will score many at Hull as Goz says below. Do agree with you, will stick with Suarez, as it says somewhere on this site form trumps fixture. I made the sin of going for Rooney captain vs Villa and not Suarez vs Spurs. That was a freak result admittedly but never again. Suarez captain for me.

I dropped 145,000 places in GW14 for not captaining Suarez. It's a massive gamble.

Captain Rooney (over lukaku, suarez and Walcott) against Hull is a no brainer If you have him?

Hull are decent enough at home (and indeed a solid team), I can't see Man United scoring over 2 goals, where as I feel Suarez could well be involved in 3 at the Etihad. Lukaku is a big risk imo

Agree with lukaku. But uncertain that hull has a better defence than manc. Between suarez and Rooney for me.

Too much doubt about Rooney's position and Lukaku's form. Having said that it's hard to imagine Rooney blanking wherever he plays and Lukaku's stats are still good, apparently. Having said that, it's hard to imagine Suarez blanking WHOever he plays.

I reckon it's safer to stick with the herd and captain Suarez. If the others score big you still get the points and won't fall behind but if Suarez scores big and you don't captain him...

A lot of people shipping him out for Rooney already. I'm not one of them, just pointing that out.

Ahhhh that's good news! He can be my differential.

        Don't fancy Rooney (C) v Hull though

I reckon the safest captain options are Suarez or a City attacker
