Michu goes under the knife to cure an ongoing ankle complaint. Southampton’s injury problems ease ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Danny Welbeck is back in training for United. John O’Shea is a doubt for Sunderland’s visit to Everton. Leighton Baines is back for Everton, whilst Dimitar Berbatov is set for a late fitness test before Fulham’s Boxing Day clash with Norwich:

Swansea have been dealt a blow with the news that Michu will undergo an ankle operation to cure the problems that have troubled him for much of the season. Michael Laudrup admitted he expects to be without his talisman for up to six weeks.

Southampton could welcome back a number of their walking wounded for the visit to Cardiff. Luke Shaw and Pablo Osvaldo are doubts after missing the loss to Spurs with a throat infection and a knock to the right leg respectively. Nathaniel Clyne and Kelvin Davis are “approaching full fitness”, however, and could also feature against the Bluebirds.

Danny Welbeck is back in training for United after recovering from the sore knee that forced him off against West Ham. Reports suggest the forward has travelled with the squad to Hull on Boxing Day. Elsewhere, Nemanja Vidic “is fine” following injury and a throat infection in the past week.

Dimitar Berbatov is a doubt for Fulham’s clash with Norwich after missing the loss to City with a groin problem. Rene Meulensteen remains hopeful the Bulgarian will pass a late test to feature at Carrow Road, though the visitors will be without Philippe Senderos, who is ruled out next two league encounters after coming off injured early with a left abductor problem.

Leighton Baines is available for selection once again after a month out with a broken toe. Meanwhile, Nikica Jelavic is a doubt with a hamstring problem, whilst Roberto Martinez is hopeful of having Steven Pienaar available after he limped off in the second half at Swansea.

John O’Shea is an injury concern for Gus Poyet ahead of the Everton game. The Sunderland captain sustained a shoulder injury in the stalemate with Norwich, and has been assessed by the club’s medical staff. The Black Cats are already without the suspended Wes Brown after the defender saw red against Norwich, and could be forced to field a makeshift centre-back pairing should O’Shea fail to make it.

Jon Flanagan is a concern for Liverpool’s trip to the Etihad. The young defender has a hamstring injury and will be assessed, with Martin Kelly poised to deputise after replacing Flanagan in the second half against Cardiff.

Christian Benteke is “unlikely” to feature in Villa’s home clash against Palace due to a knee problem, though the Belgian has not been ruled out altogether by manager Paul Lambert.

All this, plus plenty of other crumbs of knowledge from around the Premier League press conferences have been collected for you and placed lovingly in our Team News section, along with our predicted lineups. We will keep you updated on any fresh stuff via our Twitter Feed.

Yes, It just means that having a full 15 players as first choice in their team, is more important as the season progresses.
Saving .3or4 but putting in second string players is really short sighted.

No idea as they've got a new manager and Richardson was played further up the pitch. How's their injury situation on the left side?

Wow, that's a pretty cheap defense 😮 Chester is cheap and Hull have been decent-ish, but their fixtures are not too appealing.

Yes. Always done it like that. Although, this year it hasn't worked out that well.
My fifth defender is G.Johnson, so he is the one who is going out. But I need the money to buy Rooney, so don't have more money than 4.5....!
        So Riise, or someone else?

I actually had rise a couple of GWs last season, got me a CS! I haven't really checked out Fulham under Meulensteen so I'm not the right guy to ask, but if he's got some set-pieces he could do well the next 4. I mean you could play him every GW I suppose and Jan WC just around the corners.

I'd say go for it, gotta think short-term now with WC coming up.

Good point. Need to take a hit to get Rooney in. Not sure if I need him, but sick and tired of having Benteke in my team. And I need to buy a cheap defender to make money for Rooney. Only problem is this week where I would have to play him away to Norwich. Already have Olsson, and Fulham won't keep a CS away from home...?

I worried that he gave away free kick to Barkley and if Baines is back there goes the pens, not much left if no one passes to him. He's getting into position but not picking the ball up for himself and taking on shots.
If he continues to not get the passes it leaves him looking a far less attractive prospect.

Long time no see, merry christmas guys!

After the worst round in history, I'm pondering what to do...

    Howard
    JT Evans Mert
    Sess Ramsey Hazard Mirallas
    Suarez (c) Negredo Lukaku (vc)

    Gazz Bannan BTurner Gabbidon

1 FT 2.1M in the bank. My first thoughts are "omg Sess has got to go", and Wally is in my book the ideal midfielder to get in. I'd have to take a hit and do a downgrade, I need 0.5M. Thoughts? Get a different midfielder than Wally? Downgrade JT? Evans?

        Hey Flynn!

I think Barkley will be the first guy to get "rested" as Martinez seems keen on not burning out the youngster. I can see Osman getting a start, while Mirallas keeps getting subbed towards the last minutes so at least he'll start with Deluf out... it's a way to go though, I thought about downgrading Ramsey as well. Might just be overthinking it?

    A. Berbatov + Walker + Evra > Rooney + Chester + 4.7m def (-8)
    B. Save FT, lose 0.1m on Rooney and do the transfer after boxing day (many things can happen, I might have to replace some big-priced mid - Silva on 4YC, Hazard not performing)

    For reference, my team:

    Marshall
    Evra // Mertesacker // Coleman // Walker
    Yaya // Silva // Hazard // Ramsey
    Suarez (C) // Lukaku

Would having Terry, Coleman, and Mertesacker be overkill / too much invested there? Ive had Coleman since week one so his $ is low. My other two defenders would be Chester and M. Olsson

Walcott has 3 goals and 4 assists in the last 3 games against West Ham, now I must admit I am tempted

If Santa loves rich and poor kids just the same then why do rich kids always get nicer presents? 😛

So that the level of joy that he brings with his presents is the same. Poor kids have lower expectations.

I really want to captain Lukaku over Luis, but worried over Xmas load of people will forget about their teams, nd thus have Suarez as captain.

If he does deliver, it could be very costly.

I've captained him the last 4 weeks in a row, but he's now at 50%ownership and the majority of those will captain him, personally I'm going with Rooney this week as a slight differential, there aren't many teams that have managed to get much away to city this season.

Think I'll flip a coin and go with the one who leads the captain poll tomorrow. Currently Rooney over Suarez, despite Rooney's lower ownership.

Does the team check out for boxing day...?

    Howard (Manonne)
    Baker, Dawson, Jagielka (Ollson, Zaba)
    Hazard, Ramsey, Silva, Lallana (Ravel)
    Lukaku, Negredo, Suarez (C)

I think it's fine, but any helpful pointers much appreciated!

Considering City did concede 3 v Arsenal, I think Suarez (c) for sure. They are still shaky at the back . However, after Chelsea's solid defensive display v Arsenal, I think I wont captain him for the Chelsea v Pool game.

Demichelis is still adjusting, Clichy isn't that good and Zaba probably won't be there. The way City attack, Suarez WILL get chances. Wouldn't be surprised with a couple goals which I would be more than happy with.

      Higher end: Barkley, Januzaj, Whits

      Lower end: Redmond, Mutch

Depends if you want a Cabaye as 4th mid get a lower end as 5th, otherwise get two of higher end and rotate home away. Who are the other mids?

Probably. Rami-Mikel as the pivot with Lamps rested for Liverpool (Hopefully).

      Schurrle/Mata/Willian - Oscar - Hazard

Don't expect to see Debruyne again. Since it's at home 4-2-3-1 would be the norm.

About time he starts, although he doesn't exactly look like a regular any more. Don't take the risk of another cameo, so sold him for Walcott, despite of better fixture.
