Michu goes under the knife to cure an ongoing ankle complaint. Southampton’s injury problems ease ahead of a trip to Cardiff. Danny Welbeck is back in training for United. John O’Shea is a doubt for Sunderland’s visit to Everton. Leighton Baines is back for Everton, whilst Dimitar Berbatov is set for a late fitness test before Fulham’s Boxing Day clash with Norwich:

Swansea have been dealt a blow with the news that Michu will undergo an ankle operation to cure the problems that have troubled him for much of the season. Michael Laudrup admitted he expects to be without his talisman for up to six weeks.

Southampton could welcome back a number of their walking wounded for the visit to Cardiff. Luke Shaw and Pablo Osvaldo are doubts after missing the loss to Spurs with a throat infection and a knock to the right leg respectively. Nathaniel Clyne and Kelvin Davis are “approaching full fitness”, however, and could also feature against the Bluebirds.

Danny Welbeck is back in training for United after recovering from the sore knee that forced him off against West Ham. Reports suggest the forward has travelled with the squad to Hull on Boxing Day. Elsewhere, Nemanja Vidic “is fine” following injury and a throat infection in the past week.

Dimitar Berbatov is a doubt for Fulham’s clash with Norwich after missing the loss to City with a groin problem. Rene Meulensteen remains hopeful the Bulgarian will pass a late test to feature at Carrow Road, though the visitors will be without Philippe Senderos, who is ruled out next two league encounters after coming off injured early with a left abductor problem.

Leighton Baines is available for selection once again after a month out with a broken toe. Meanwhile, Nikica Jelavic is a doubt with a hamstring problem, whilst Roberto Martinez is hopeful of having Steven Pienaar available after he limped off in the second half at Swansea.

John O’Shea is an injury concern for Gus Poyet ahead of the Everton game. The Sunderland captain sustained a shoulder injury in the stalemate with Norwich, and has been assessed by the club’s medical staff. The Black Cats are already without the suspended Wes Brown after the defender saw red against Norwich, and could be forced to field a makeshift centre-back pairing should O’Shea fail to make it.

Jon Flanagan is a concern for Liverpool’s trip to the Etihad. The young defender has a hamstring injury and will be assessed, with Martin Kelly poised to deputise after replacing Flanagan in the second half against Cardiff.

Christian Benteke is “unlikely” to feature in Villa’s home clash against Palace due to a knee problem, though the Belgian has not been ruled out altogether by manager Paul Lambert.

All this, plus plenty of other crumbs of knowledge from around the Premier League press conferences have been collected for you and placed lovingly in our Team News section, along with our predicted lineups. We will keep you updated on any fresh stuff via our Twitter Feed.

Could I beg to hear people's opinion on what the combined chances of both Koscielny and Clyne NOT starting this gameweek?

If that's the case, I'll need to take a hit in defense

I'd say 50%. Don't take a hit, they will be ready for weekend.

50% are pretty serious chances of missing out on a defender slot altogether, though.

True, his record in MLS has me worried though I don't know anything beyond the stat of 1 goal in 9 games.

I have Berbatov and there is no way I'm doubling on the Fulham attack.

Yeah, his stats don't look good, i guess he had an injury and didn't play a lot...
Fulham have tricky fixtures in January and February. I think it's worth to take a punt on him on Jan 1 and then get rid on the WC. If you don't get him immediatley, then it's probably not worth getting him later either.

New croud so new post! Would really appreciate your help!

    Me: Marshall + Ward + Dawson + Silva + Barkley + Roo
    H2H rival : Jags + Coleman + Merte + Yaya + Januzaj + Remy

Do I need to change my captain from Suarez(to Silva,Hazard or Lukaku) to do anything different from him or do I take a hit? I feel that my chances are very limited this week , so going in with what I have already might backfire! What do you think folks? Do I really need to change anything?

Don't do anything. Captain Suarez. You could lose due to Ward but can't do much about it now.

        The way I see it:
        Rooney > Remy
        Barkley > Januzaj/Lallana
        Silva = Yaya
        Marshall > Mert
        Dawson < Jags

Rate my team, any thoughts or suggestions welcome:

    Gazza
    Baines Debuchy Coleman
    Walcott Toure Hazard Ramsey
    Suarez (c) Lukaku Rooney

    Bench Migs Gabbidon Januzaj Shaw

Think I have to stick with Saurez as capt even though away at Citeh, Rooney and Lukaku have strong claims as well this week I guess. I am also not happy with my GKs, but plan is to upgrade Gazza next GW.

Not sure about Hazard, My plan is to remove either Hazard or Toure and Gazza next week, and bring in Silva and a different back up GK, maybe McGregor or Marshall. Hoping for some cheeky differential over my league by bringing Baines back this week a bit blind.

Walcott usually scores for fun against my beloved Newcastle, just wondering if I brought him in a week too early with Fat Sam bound to try and shut up shop.

Totally agree, had him from the off with Boruc, and then Gazza after Boruc crocked. Definitely an area I need to improve, but dont want to take 4 point hit to switch keeper this week

Pondering the same thing myself. Leaning towards Suarez at moment. But if O Shea out , then Sunderland will be without their first choice centre backs.

Phil Jones. Billy Jones is Bones.

Lukaku hasn't scored in last 4 Prem games. Martinez was asked about this and says it's a slight concern that Lukaku's not scoring but happy that Everton goals are shared around more. Sunderland have 4 CS in past 6, their defence are no mugs. I like Lukaku, hooe gets a brace and I'll be happy to see others to get points if he does. But I don't believe in keeping a player with poor goalscoring form just cos they, seemingly, have a soft touch at home.

Hull are poor. United are on the up and Rooney's form is great. Who are your other captain options?

I've got Rooney, Lukaku, Suarez, Hazard, Silva and Perhaps Ramsey; something's telling me to punt on Hazard. Everything Chelsea do seems to run through him, suppose you could say the same for Rooney and Suarez.

Suarez and Rooney are capabke of big games against big teams. Hazard, at this point in his career, doesn't seem to stand up and be counted in big games. He was poor, I thought, v Arsenal. But Swansea could be seen as a small club (not by me!), so he might rack up points like he does against so-called small clubs. Suarez for me, Rooney vice captain.

I'd be worried. His goal threat is non-existant lately and Hull have been relatively solid.
