With just four fixtures to go, Avram Grant is verging on his second Premier League relegation in as many years. West Ham currently prop up the league with 32 points, but there’s still a handful of clubs that could potentially drop down to the Championship. A few wins coupled with results elsewhere going in their favour and the Hammers will be safe and sound. A look at their remaining fixtures (mcy BLA wig SUN) suggests that, apart from a testing trip to Eastlands, there are reasons for optimism around Upton Park.

One of the only positives to emerge this season has been the naming of Scott Parker as the FWA Player of the Year. With their star man potentially out of the next few matches nursing an Achilles injury, however, Grant will be relying on other members of the team to aid their survival. Step forward, then, Thomas Hitzlsperger, who in Parker’s absence will have greater midfield responsibilities. Fantasy Football Managers may also see potential in the appropriately nicknamed Der Hammer

The German international has missed the vast majority of this campaign due to a serious thigh injury picked up in pre season but since making his debut at the end of February, has undoubtedly proved his class. Although only scoring one league goal in West Ham colours, he’s more than capable of finding the back of the net with that famous cannon of a left foot.

Over in the Members’ Area we can see Hitzlsperger offers great goal threat. He has made 11 attempts at goal from open play over the past 6 Gameweeks; the same number as Samir Nasri and Nani. As the Hammers’ set piece taker, he’s managed a further 2 attempts at goal in those fixtures.

Hitzlsperger doesn’t just offer potential to find the back of the net, proven by his 3 assists in the previous seven games. Another look at his Opta Stats in the Members’ Area reveals that over those last 6 gameweeks, he’s had 16 Key Passes, the 5th best tally in the top-flight.

The Hammers’ attitude shouldn’t be a concern for Fantasy Managers who may be raising their lip over the thought of transferring in a table-propper-upper. Hitzlsperger recently said this about his manager:

“He wants us to keep our heads up. This week, he said that each of us should think hard about what we can do to play to the best of our abilities. That makes a lot of sense to me, because we can only get out of this mess by playing to our strengths. It’s too late to make drastic changes now. We won’t be able to turn into Stoke City overnight. We have to stay true to ourselves.”

Priced at just 4.9 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, you should be able to find some room for Hitzlsperger in your team. With stats that are more impressive than players double his price and West Ham desperate for points against winnable opposition, Hitzlsperger, and his low ownership of 0.9%, could be the difference between you and your rivals in these decisive concluding Gameweeks.

I'm a bit confused by the Kuyt love?

OK Newcastle at home looks a good fixture and he's in form but after that ful TOT avl is a miserable fixture run.

1 good fixture in 4 compared to Silva & VDV who have 5 fixtures with some very soft opponents makes it a duff transfer I reckon.

        fixture proof?
I thnk a lot of ppl are wanting to dump players such as Nani, Fabs, Nasri, etc. and Kuyt is a great option for that...

hi jm, i think no need to rush to get rid especially nani+fabs unless to free up cash .... yeah kuyt in great form lately so most are tempted indeed but IF already have suarez then should consider other option i.e silva or yaya in this case for this gw !

          cheers.

VDV - Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool. I wouldn't call them "soft" opponents. Also, your point is that Kuyt has bad fixtures, but all his big scores have come in the tough games. Plus he's now on pens and playing upfront while Carrol is out. Even when Carroll is back, he players an advanced role.

I agree, and think if you wanted Kuyt he should have been bought a few GWs ago.

Yaya and Silva look much better options as once they come in, they stay for the final 4 games.

Hi all not sure what to do..

Clinging onto third in my mini league but Dempsey has cut that down to 50..

    Currently squad is:

    Foster Bego
    Carr Coleman Ivanovic Luiz Shawcross
    Fabs Theo O’hara Young Nani
    Dembele Sturridge RVP

I’m thinking Dembele will go and i need to cut the Arsenal coverage, probably Odem would come in and Maybe Kuyt or Silva. Also tempted to lose Ivanovic for Lescott but is a hit worth it for a defender..

I'm seriously thinking about no City coverage and getting VDV next week..

Can't see him start after the latest tweets. The big question for me is if I should get Odem in for a hit. I don't want to touch my strikers next week so Odem should outscore Sturridge in the next 2 GWs by 4. Not so sure of that as BOL have SUN at home.

Trying to weigh up the pros and cons of kuyt vs silva so feel free to pitch in!
    Silva,
Pros: city’s main threat as an attacking force, bonus point magnet recently, dgw coming up, easy game this week
Cons: not always playing the 90 mins, not a massive goal scorer (has potential though)
    Kuyt,
Pros: amazing form recently, easy-ish fixture against Newcastle, on pens, Liverpool as a whole seem to have hit their stride
Cons: tough away game coming up against fulham (6 in 7 clean sheets I think for last 7 home games), no dgw, has been known in the past to just get 2 and 3 points for weeks on end

Heres my team, need some advise guys!

    Foster (Al-Habsi)
    Vidic Luiz Hughes (Walker) (Kelly)
    Lampard Etherington Fabregas Nani Adam
    RVP Odemwingie (Carroll)

I was thinking about the following transfer for a 4 point hit:

Etherington and Fabregas to Silva and Kuyt?

Good move? Don't mind the 4 point hit as im just trying to fend of a rival who also has taken a 4 point hit?

I'm only tempted by Kuyt due to him being a strong captain choice and Carroll looks a doubt so I may leave either him or Nani as a sub? Wise move?

Only other option was to bring in a Manchester city defender and then add some Spurs coverage next week

I want to offload Nani, but I won't be able to get him back for the last 2 GWs. Should I just get rid of Lampard, considering that he's more expensive and his form hasn't been that great?

Well for the information given here he won´t play that much in the last 2 GW due to CL(wich makes sense), so if you want to get rid now, no need to get him anymore this season.

imo, if you are getting rid of Nani this GW you shouldnt be looking at getting him.

I think UTDs coverage should come in the form of rooney now

A c'mere what are Sunderland doing with their players, no wonder there is an enquiry into injuries in the Summer, I have never seen the likes of injuries they have had this season, and added to that a small-ish squad, if I was Bruce, I would be busting heads and taking names in the summer.

Sessegnon is tempting if Sunderland weren't so unreliable at the moment.

No, I'm not saying the title race is over, just that Chelsea will definitely have second after this week, Arsenal haven't beaten us in yonks, no reason for that to change.
