Our coverage of the official UEFA Fantasy Champions League game returns this afternoon. With just eight teams left in this year’s competition, our options are somewhat restricted ahead of this evening’s 7.30 pm deadline – nonetheless, we hand-pick six players for your consideration, with the obvious options again overlooked:

Tuesday

Philipp Lahm – rested to the bench in last weekend’s home draw with Hoffenheim, Lahm was only called upon after Thiago Alcantara was forced off through injury. Classified as a defender (priced at 7.0) in the Champions League game, he’s been mainly utilised in midfield under Pep Guardiola and has chipped in with a goal and six assists over the season thus far – the Bayern skipper could well be amongst the points in tonight’s crunch encounter at Old Trafford.

Koke – with Raul Garcia suspended for the trip to Barcelona and Diego Costa a big doubt, Atletico will rely on their midfield to provide a cutting edge in this evening’s all-Spanish showdown. A tight match is anticipated in the Nou Camp but with a price of 5.5, Koke – who has six goals and 13 assists already to his name this season – is a budget-friendly option for Diego Simeone’s La Liga table-toppers.

Dani Alves – Barcelona are in decent defensive form for Atletico’s visit, though, with three clean sheets in their last four games. The hosts chances of another shut-out have been boosted by Costa’s potential absence and, having chalked up four goals and a pair of assists this term, Alves (priced at 7.0) marginally gets the nod ahead of Jordi Alba as our pick.

Wednesday

Karim Benzema – the Frenchman plays host to a Dortmund side decimated by injuries tomorrow evening and offers an in-form double-up option alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Benzema – available for 11.5 – has managed four goals in six Champions League games and struck 17 times domestically; with Robert Lewandowski missing out through suspension for the visitors, he looks a handy up-front replacement if you fancy Carlo Ancelotti’s men to bang in the goals.

Christophe Jallet – the right-back has been an ever-present for PSG since Gregory van der Weil was forced onto the sidelines with a knee injury. Priced at just 4.5, Jallet offers a cut-price route into Laurent Blanc’s backline and with Jose Mourinho expected to keep it tight in Paris, the hosts will fancy their chances of delivering a clean sheet, bearing in mind the Blues have failed to score away to Villa and Palace in their last two away league matches. There’s a chance that Marquinos could be shifted over to the right but we’re sticking our neck out and reckon it’s more likely Jallet will get the nod.

Fernando Torres – on the other hand, if you fancy Mourinho to mastermind a cheeky Chelsea victory in the French capital, you don’t have to look much further than Champions League specialist Torres. The Spaniard sets you back 9.0 and has already scored three times in this term’s competition – with Samuel Eto’o sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Torres is set to lead the line for the visitors.

Are people really going to get Aguero in for the double?

Are you doing this to chase points in making up ground in your ML? Or considered your season over so worth a punt?

I've been burned by jumping on the Aguero wagon too early already this season. And I imagine Pelle feels the same! Looking unlikely that he'll feature at all this weekend against Southampton.

How many minutes do you think he'll get over the Liverpool and Sunderland games?

For me, I'm tempted to leave the SLS and double up on Yaya and Silva in midfield.

Man City's strikers will be a nightmare.

after aguero's comments about him not wanting to rush back and worrying about his world cup chances if he comes back too soon I wouldn't get him.

Might play a part v liverpool but realistically has no chance v sunderland in my opinion.

Yeah, I can't really see him starting either.

I think it's impossible to call how many minutes any City striker will get over the double. Which is a shame.

What front line are you going for then Bemba?

    Re: Scout Tweet about Aguero.

Should it be implied that Kün has already won Premier League once, so his remaining target with City is only The Champion League ?

Also, for now, he is more worried about World Cup and do not wanna risk injury again. So, he will be eased back this itme.

Regarding the tweet about Aguero. I'm regarding this as whilst he may be ok to face Southampton, he won't as a precaution, instead being saved for the possible title clash with Liverpool the gameweek after.

        Good point, we are dire.

My only concern is that it would be part of a double FT Williams and Mata to Demichelis and Nasri.

I have the exact money but both look like they will be going up soon

    Choose the option::

    1. Save FT this week and play Dann (Keeping the option of getting Kun if needed)

    2. Get Demichelis/Zaba this week for Kosc (Forget Kun)

    3. Get Kaboul and play him in place of Dann (Can get Kun next week but for a -4 )

    Evening all,

    Quick question:

How many of you would be comfortable playing Eriksen to cover Hazard for the rest of the season?

Looking at his fixtures (and the likely return of Adebayor) I fancy the Dane to keep within 5-10 points of young Eden.

I think it'll have more to do with breaking up play. I can see Fellaini getting a booking fairly early tonight.

They have others in the side who can use the ball.

Don't get me wrong, I love Kagawa - but against Peps Bayern, they'll just want to get through the first half hour or so and still be in the game, and playing Kagawa doesn't necessarily mean they'll retain the ball any better (Bayern are could strip him through sheer power and pressure).

Aguero will play a sub role if any during the double gameweek, his reintroduction has already been put back two weeks. Maybe it's time to forget about him and use the funds on other fantasy prospects. Dzeko is the only city striker on form at the minute while Zaba/kompany are good options at the back.

Neuer can be a bit of a piss take sometimes, but I love Muller. One of my favourite players, all about the results. No flash, just great decision making.

5 man midfield with Carrick, Giggs and Fellaini in the centre? Urgh.

Looks worryingly similar to the team that was put out against City and crashed and burned.

Extremely. I almost thought he must surely be playing deeper, but I can't see how he will be when there are already 3 CMs. He surely won't be played wide.

Reminds me of Sherwood. Seemingly random selections because he doesn't get what's going on on the pitch, that sometimes accidentally come off, and sometimes crash and burn.

Thanks for always sending these, Demi!

So Ferdinand & Vidic are paired up, for possibly one final time??? Once more into the breach, boys!

Let's hope they go out with a bang...and by that I mean a 1-nil victory, instead of an own goal, several other road goals for Munich, and a red card for Vidic for old tyme's sake.
