A mere two Fantasy Premier League gameweeks remain and it truly is do or die time for points accumulation – perhaps you need to cement your lead ala United and City, or maybe you’re making a last gasp Kenny Dalglish surge. With much left to play for, it’s two of the game’s big cheeses who are storming away in this week’s Captain’s Poll. It appears that reliability, rather than risk, is the general consensus. With Fantasy Managers placing a safe wager instead or punting on a late outsider…
It is Frank Lampard who currently tops our charts – with just under a quarter of the vote. The Chelsea skipper is in rampant form, fetching 4 goals and 6 bonus points in his last 5 Premier League outings, although it is too little too late as far as their title chances are concerned. Carlo Ancelotti’s men face Newcastle this weekend and you would expect some goals against a creaky back four. This will therefore be the reasoning behind Didier Drogba’s inclusion in fourth place in our table with 6%. The Ivorian has scored just 1 goal in 6, but he makes up for this with 5 assists and 7 bonus points.
The second of our heavyweights, just behind Lampard by a handful of votes, is Robin Van Persie who faces an Aston Villa defence that have kept just 1 clean-sheet in 13 fixtures. The Dutch striker has an incredible record of 16 goals in his last 15 Premier League games. In the same period he has also notched up a remarkable 24 Bonus Points. As Arsenal’s form has buckled, RVP has steadily continued to rake home the FPL royalties – something which shines through in the fact no other Arsenal player makes the top 20 in the poll.
Luis Suarez pops up in the third spot, followed by Dirk Kuyt in eighth. Liverpool currently sit just 2 points above Spurs in fifth in the Premier League and, with form on their side, you would expect the Reds to have the advantage over Redknapp’s boys as the two sides meet each other at Anfield. At the time of writing, only Rafael Van der Vaart from the Tottenham contingent has clocked up any votes – a paltry 1%.
Elsewhere in the ranks, Manchester United’s in-from pair Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez hold 5% and 4% respectively. You would expect them to have received slightly more but, with the title all but guaranteed and one eye on the Champions League, the likes of Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen could be factors in the United line-up. With West Ham at home and 3 goals in 4, Wigan’s Charles N’Zogbia has plenty of potential and 6% of you agree.
Whoever you feel holds the most Fantasy potential in this penultimate gameweek, be sure to cast your vote on the front page and join in on the gab below this article.
