While both halves of Manchester spark open the champagne this evening and revel in their respective clubs’ new silverware, those teams ensconced in the battle at the foot of the table can only grin and bear it as the tension was racked up another notch today.

When a team’s Premier League existence is on the line, this time of the season produces some extraordinarily gutsy performances from those threatened with the drop and there‘s always one or two Fantasy Bargains to be had near the bottom. This afternoon, Wolves and Blackpool grabbed the goals and three vital Premier League points apiece, meaning both clubs enter Gameweek 38 with their survival still intact.

Blackpool scaled the heights of their gameweek 1 performance, scoring four for the first time since that opening day of the season in an incredible 4-3 victory over Bolton. The Seasiders’ last home game of this campaign saw DJ Campbell grab 13 FPL Points and Charlie Adam (picking up his first Bonus Points in seven games) returning 12, with an away trip to Old Trafford left of their season. If Ian Holloway’s side are ultimately relegated, they at least have given the home supporters a parting gift to remember.

Wolves chose today to record their first back-to-back league wins of the season with a 3-1 win at Sunderland; Steven Fletcher scored for the fifth time in five games, whilst midfielders Jamie O’Hara, Matt Jarvis and Stephen Hunt all picked up an assist each to reward Fantasy Owners ahead of their home game with Blackburn next week.

The onus now switches to Birmingham, Wigan and West Ham tomorrow. Will it be Sebastian Larsson or Cameron Jerome, Charles N’Zogbia or Hugo Rodallega, or maybe one of either Thomas Hitzlsperger and Demba Ba who will have their day in the sun?

There’s many permutations to consider, but of all those teams involved in the scrap, it’s West Ham who are on the brink; they now need to win both remaining games and hope Birmingham lose their last two to stand any chance of survival. Even if Big Eck’s side are defeated, anything other than a Hammers win at Wigan tomorrow and they’ll be playing Championship football next season.

Regardless of tomorrow’s results, there’s going to be plenty uncertainty surrounding the relegation places and a chance for big performances all over again in Gameweek 38. Great for Fantasy potential, terrible on the nerves of the real-life fan. Bring on next Sunday.

Every player plays for the foul these days, whether it's right or wrong the games changed that in that way. Contact after the ball has gone is a foul, no matter where on the pitch it is, or where the ball is going.

I really wish we were safe, unfortunately it's not that simple for us. Need West Ham to take something from Wigan tomorrow then we'll likely be fine. If Wigan manage to win we are right back in the sh*t.

So as it stands my striking hit list for next season (depending on transfers / prices etc) stands as:

    RVP
    Rooney
    Hernandez
    Torres
    Suarez
    Carroll

Then a look at the budget players from this season and possible ones for next. Theirs gonna be some hard decisions to be made for next season!

Depending on Drogbas where abouts and the support players Chelsea buy I think Torres could be a big scoring player for next season, he seems just recently to have sorted his injury problems a bit, unless I'm imagining it! Suarez is a definite for me next season, he will replace the Tevez FPL void with goals assists and baps galore and if RVP is fit he's impossible to ignore. Maybe Rooney will be classed as a midfielder? 🙂

We should definitely sort out a fantasy league next season where there is only 1 of every player and we auction/draft them before the opening weekend. Would only need about 10 managers to make it half decent and you can easily use the fpl site to run it. Shame Yahoo don't run them for them like they do for all the US sports. The set up is slick

Well normally anyone not drafted/bought would be a free agent and can be added to any team. The priority is usually the reverse order to which the draft took place (so if AtB did have first pick he'd have last choice of the free agents for week 1).

As for other players, they can be transfered between teams, just have to agree a deal and make sure it's not a stupidly one sided transfer. Would take a fair bit of organising i'd imagine, that's why it's such a shame Yahoo don't bother

lol definitely a few problems but it can be set up in a very simple form. Such as just 1 transfer per week. People would know their priority (whether they have first pick of the free agents or say tenth pick) and could submit 3 names every Friday. If it comes to your turn and no one has your first choice free agent then you get him, if they do then down to second and possibly third choice etc etc.

All the scoring could be done on fpl.com, easy peasy.

No not really. I've done this as well and the main problem is people can't control their budgets. The inevitably blow too much early or are too prudent. A draft is the easiest way imo, just take turns picking the player you want and then the next person does the same until you have a squad of say 15-20 players on each team

Yeah it might get complicated. If we have 19 of us then each one of the participants has to manage the league for two GW over the season. So there's always someone on top of the transfers etc. Would that work?

I think 19 might be pushing it a bit. 10 is probably a decent number as it'll be tough for say 19 people all to have a decent enough team. Plus there is a huge difference beween having first pick and nineteenth pick!

10 is a good number i think. As although 1st pick is still an advantage, player 10 gets the tenth and eleventh pick wheres player 1 gets first pick and then has to wait for the twentieth pick. Does that make any sense? lol

Yeah well it's the biggest day of the season isn't it draft day!! You have to do all your prep and work out your strategy. Also need to get all 10 managers in one place which might be the biggest problem of all.

Maybe i'll just spread a rumour saying RBJ and DB are gonna have a debate about GAA on the boards at a certain time, everyone will show up then

if adebayor goes to spurs he should be no more than 9mil. he would be their main man, get the pampering he needs and is proven in his time at city last season and at arsenal to be a pretty consistent source of goals and bps when he's happy and in the team.

RVP, Hernandez, Carroll = yes, 100%.

Rooney = No. Hernandez will probably be much cheaper and just about (if not more) as effective.

Torres = No. The guy's lost it. He was a precocious talent. His best days are behind him.

Suarez = No. Much as I love that cheeky little Urugyuan, next season will be all about Carroll.

-1 on the Rooney Torres Suarez points, sorry!

As much as id love Torres to have lost it I just don't believe it. Suarez might not score as many as Carroll (think he will tho) Suarez will pick up more points thru assists and baps. Bare in mind an assist is only 1 point less for a striker than a goal. Look at Rooneys points considering he's generally only considered to have had half a good season.

That's what makes FF so good Goose - differences of opinion!

I cannot be too dogmatic against your Suarez & Rooney reasonings but Torres is a different matter altogether.

By general concensus, Torres has lost his initial burst of speed; that's what he used to get himself into favourable goal scoring positions.

Without that he is worth a tiny fraction of his 55M fee.

I hate seeing any side doing it. United just seem to do it a lot. So do Barca, that was my point, if the ref doesn't keep on top of it, it will get stupid in the final.

The reason I hate Barca so much when they do it is it's so systematic and constant.

There's a difference when Barca do it, they're not just appealling for decisions, they're trying to get other players sent off or booked, every single time.

Yeah it is a new thing this season, pretty ugly tactic.
That sort of unsportsmanship is bloody rife in the game now, I'd honestly be really happy not watching the Premiership lately if it wasnt for FPL. I hate the way its going.

Congratulations to Man City for the FA cup win, pleased for Mancini. Impressed with Balotelli today, some great play and didn't lose his temper when Huth gave him that nasty elbow in the first half. Huth should clearly have been sent off by the way as that was a 100% yellow or worse.
