I think they both direct very well and the mise en scene is often beautiful, but I find the narrative of their movies a little weak. They also develop reasonable characters but none of them (bar Javier in NCFOM) have the cult factor of, say, a Tyler Durden.
In reality though, it's just personal taste they are good film makers in their own right. However, don't get me started on Michael Bay...
