Chelsea’s Champions League dream is ended by La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid. Tottenham’s Andros Townsend is ruled out for over two months with ankle ligament damage, Gareth McAuley looks on course to return in time for West Brom’s double Gameweek, whilst Joseph Yobo is available for Norwich again as the Canaries attempt to drag themselves out of the drop zone:

CHELSEA CRASH OUT OF EUROPE

Despite welcoming captain John Terry and Eden Hazard back into the starting line-up for last night’s Champions League semi-final second leg, Jose Mourinho could do nothing to stop his side slipping to defeat against Atletico Madrid. The Chelsea boss made five changes from his side’s vital victory over Liverpool on Sunday, with Fernando Torres chosen to spearhead the team against his old side and Cesar Azpilicueta unexpectedly fielded on the right of the attacking three alongside Willian and the returning Eden Hazard. Torres grabbed the opening goal of the game courtesy of a cut back from Azpilicueta, but it was the Blues’ defence that let them down on night as they conceded three goals at home for the first time this season.

The Scout Says: With the momentum from their tactical masterclass over Liverpool still fresh in everyone’s minds, many believed that Mourinho’s men had it in them to reach the Champions League final last night. With their European dreams now over, the north London outfit only have two remaining games this campaign; they welcome Norwich this weekend before visiting Cardiff on the final day of the season as they look to defy the odds and climb above Manchester City and Liverpool to the summit of the table. Azpilicueta’s owners will be intrigued by his performance last night, as Mourinho opted to the play the 5.7-priced defender in his attacking three ahead of the likes of Andre Schurrle and Oscar, though the Spaniard returned to his normal left back position when the former was introduced for Ashley Cole in the second half. Whilst Azpilicueta’s owners will be intrigued by last night’s switch of position, it seems more likely that Mourinho will turn to his more attack-minded players for the last two league games, given just how porous both opponents’ defences have been this season – Hazard’s return to the XI may well persuade some to re-invest in the Belgian, with his price dropping from 11.2 to 10.3 in recent weeks. A further point of note from last night’s match is that for the first time in three seasons, we won’t have a double Gameweek 1 to get us underway when the 2014/15 campaign kicks off in August –the Blues’ participation in the European Super Cup in the past two years has previously forced a Premier League reschedule.

TOWNSEND OUT OF WORLD CUP

Tottenham midfielder Andros Townsend has been ruled out for up to ten weeks after it was announced that he will undergo surgery on an ankle problem later today. The England international picked up the injury against Stoke on Saturday and further scans on the complaint have confirmed that the ligament damage sustained will require surgery.

The Scout Says: A devastating blow for the young winger, who exploded onto the World Cup and Fantasy football stage earlier this season following an incredible debut in an England shirt swiftly followed by a first Premier League goal of the season back in Gameweek 8. Injury has since curtailed Townsend’s potential, with the Spurs man mainly reduced to substitute appearances since Gameweek 11 and devoid of attacking returns since that early-season strike, but there is no doubt he would still have been harbouring hopes of a seat on the plane to Brazil. The midfielder’s absence for the remainder of the campaign should see Cristian Eriksen and Aaron Lennon’s starting berths on the wings guaranteed for Spurs’ final two fixtures, with Tim Sherwood’s side travelling to West Ham this weekend before hosting Villa on the final day of the season.

YOBO BACK FOR RELEGATION SCRAP

Joseph Yobo has declared himself fit for Norwich’s two vital remaining Premier League games of the season. The on-loan centre-half has been sidelined since the Canaries loss to West Brom at the start of April with a calf injury, but has been given the all-clear for the visit of Chelsea on Sunday.

The Scout Says: Three clean sheets in eight appearances since his loan move from Fenerbahce in January had seen Yobo offer a viable route into the Canaries’ backline until his recently injury problems. A weekend return for the 3.9-priced defender will put the starting berths of Russell Martin and Michael Turner under considerable pressure, as Neil Adams will be desperate to keep his defence tight for Sunday’s match with Chelsea and next weekend’s trip to Arsenal in his hunt for Premier League survival.

MCAULEY BACK IN TIME FOR DOUBLE

Gareth McAuley is expected to recover from a calf complaint in time for West Brom’s trip to Arsenal this weekend. Teammate Steven Reid is rated ‘50/50’ for the Emirates trip after being withdrawn before half time against West Ham last Saturday with a groin problem, whilst Zoltan Gera and Liam Ridgewell are unlikely to recover from knee and hamstring injuries respectively for Sunday’s game, but could do in time for the Baggies’ trip to Sunderland next Wednesday.

The Scout Says: It is hardly surprising that West Brom’s defensive assets aren’t earning all that much attention ahead of their impending double Gameweek, certainly compared to the likes of the two Manchester clubs. Nonetheless, managers should note that the Baggies have managed two clean sheets in their last four games, and though another against the Gunners looks unlikely, a shut-out against Sunderland is a viable prospect, especially if the 5.1-priced McAuley is indeed fit to partner Jonas Olsson at the back. With a home game against Stoke to come on the final day of the season, once the double is out of the way, the Baggies’ rearguard might just tempt a few more investors before this Saturday’s deadline arrives.

    My team is this.

    Mannone
    Demichelis / Baines / Evra
    Eriksen / Mata / Nasri / Puncheon
    Dzeko (vc) / Suárez / Rooney (c)

One of my rivals teams I predict will be this.

    Mannone
    Chester / Zabaleta / Azpilicueta / Coleman
Ramsey / Yaya Touré (vc) / Mata
    Giroud / Agüero / Rooney (c)

Do I put a bet on with him that I will outscore him this week?

Need to make up around 60 points to take 1st in my cash league, near on impossible I know. I've got a more realistic chance of second at around 15 points.. Knowing the leader will captain Rooney, is there any point punting now and moving my armband to Mata/Dzeko/Nasri?

Yaya is a better risk as he won't have a high captain percentage as most people will go for Kun and Rooney.

Mata could score big but his game time is uncertain due to RVP being back and also Giggs did not start him last week.

Obviously we don't know what will happen so we are just making informed guesses at best.

Personally I wouldn't captain Dzeko as he has only scored more than 1 goal on one occasion this season and only obtained double figures on three occasions.

Out of those 3 I would go Mata as Nasri is not explosive enough.

out of the current squad you have GB i would take nasri as best punt for potential returns.

Few people have went on about him before. Could be good.

Then again, Taarabt was the next superstar the year he came up to the PL with QPR and we all know how that ended.

Still, if he's cheap and they can get some defensive performances in I'll consider him.

Taarabt started to rip up the Italian league when he went to AC Milan this year though, he has talent, he was just wasteful in the PL, think it was too fast for him.

15 assists is hard to ignore from a RB, that'd be impressive for an attacking mid!

Taarabt had 19 goals and 16 assists the season he left the Championship.

Too fast for him maybe but put it this way instead:

Trippier will now be dealing with faster wingers, hampering how often he goes forward. As well as that, he'll rely heavily on their attacking men to finish off whatever passes he makes, while he definitely could be making these passes the standard of defending that the front men have to deal with will have jumped pretty convincingly. He'll most likely be in my team if he's cheap but I'm always wary of players that have these stunning Championship seasons, it can be misleading!

Very true, that could lead him to being overpriced as well as he is clearly the outstanding individual in that defence at the moment, he could be 0.5 or 1m more than other Burnley defenders.

That is the other issue, always tough to gauge if it's worth paying the extra based on championship stats. If, however, he comes in at 4.5 I think he'll be a very handy cheap defender to have. It just depends on how they shape up, even if they only kept their defensive solidity he'd be handy to have for the occasional assist.

True, sadly. I don't think he is inherently terrible, it's just that he's been sorely let down by coaches who haven't told him to stop squandering possession with daft pot-shots. If he gets a decent coach next season, he might be able to channel all that well-meant positive attitude into profitable playmaking.

you would've thought coaches would've told him not to be taking pot shots. Maybe he just does that off his own back.

that fact that he has already been loaned out to 9 different clubs in the lower divisions without much success might just point to him not being good enough.

He had a decent few games and good outing for England. Something for him to remember fondly when he is back in league 1/2 in a year or two

You would have thought that but they keep playing him. If they didn't like what he was doing, or if was continually disobeying instructions to stop doing that then they would surely have dropped him. That they haven't suggests that they've been happy for him to do it, which is mad.

Will the tears have subsided enough for Terry to still be nailed on at the weekend (what day do they play?)..and will he manage games so close together after his injury?

Suspect Mou will play his strongest team from now on and pray for Palace and Everton favours. Terry will play.

He'll play. Chelsea will be looking to win their last two and Terry looks more than recovered. In his pre match conference he spoke about being able to have one player but no more who wasn't 100% fit in a side. He specifically said that player was Hazard.

He also mentioned Oscar as not being fully fit. Not sure what that is, may explain why he hasn't played much in recent weeks.

        Mannone

        Ward - Jones - Chester

        Nasri - Yaya - Ramsey - Mata

        Suarez - Rooney (c) - Aguero
        -----------------------------------------------
        Ruddy - Barkley - Olsson - Dann

£0.5m ITB. Obviously Ward looks like a weak link, but I just have a feeling that Palace could end Liverpool's title hopes on Monday night.

Feels like i already made my bed without Yaya, since i went early for Jones.
Any attempt to get Yaya would now be -8 (with cash from Mirallas).

Considered Azpil -> Demi, but i let that one slip by 0.1. So, just stick?

Hazard has over 20% ownership, although I suspect that most of the top 100K won't have him in their team.

I also think not many of the top 100K will get him as they will need to take 2 more hits to get him unless they drop Yaya.

I'm guessing a lot of people don't have extra transfer funds unless they have sold Suarez. I know personally I couldn't afford Hazard at the moment as I only have 0.5M in the bank, so would need to make two transfers to get him and I have a team value of 115.9M

Spurs have approached De Boer according to the man himself. Could be very good for them.

4 Eredevisie titles in a row, I think he could be very strong. A lot of talented players that need proper management at that club.

Can you see him moving? last i heard he was keen to remain in Holland and gain more experience.

Not sure why he would wanna go and work for a control freak like Levy.

I'm not sure. Levy is a pain but I think he may have accomplished all he can with Ajax. Looking at his quotes

"I'm going to think about this after the last league fixture on May 3. I'm going to talk and listen. I'd like to add something, that people can say they see the hand of Frank de Boer. There is a beautiful example at Liverpool. That is what Brendan Rodgers is doing."

Could be quite an astute appointment if he's given the freedom. Just Levy doesn't strike me as the most flexible of chairmans.

Does the bench choice look right?

        Mannone
        Chester, Zab, Kos
        Mata, Nasri, Ram, Amalf
        Suarez, Aguero, Roo

        Eriksen, Coleman, Mariappa

Worried about Eriksen on bench but who to change him for?

Current team just 1 point behind top 1000
        ------------------MANNONE---------------
        ---------DEMI-------EVANS-------Coleman ( MOlsson---Dann )
        MATA-------NASRI------Ramsey-------Eriksen ( Noone )
        -----------------SAR-------------------
        already done Lallana-->Mata

        Which option do you prefer?
        1. Eriksen--->Yaya / Demi--->Chester (-8)
        2. Rambo--->Yaya / Demi --->Brown (-8)
        3. Nasri--->Yaya / Coleman--->5.5def (-8)
        4. forget about Yaya and do just olsson to 5.6def (-4)

Chasing a 10 point lead and my ML leader has yaya..

        Thinking of

THis Week: Suarez > Wickham, Noone > Yaya -8
        Next Week: Rooney > Suarez

Or do i need to keep my 8 points and pray Yaya doesnt deliver.

        A) Go for it
        B) SAVE!

        Boruc (Davis)
        Flanagan Jones Azpil (Ward Mariappa)
        Eriksen Mata Ramsey Nasri (Noone)
        Rooney(VC) Suarez Aguero(C)
