Redknapp Confirms Rafa Doubts

Rafael Van der Vaart is “struggling” to make Tottenham’s season finale against Birmingham on Sunday according to Harry Redknapp.

Speaking to press in this morning’s conference before today’s training session, the Spurs boss stated…

“He has a calf problem and he’s struggling”

The Dutch midfielder would have been backed strongly for returns against Alex McLeish’s basement dwellers but the growing doubt over his appearance on Sunday’s teamsheet will now cause plenty of Fantasy Managers a headache.

As we reported earlier in the week, Van der Vaart is owned by over 27% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers who will now face a conundrum. Amongst that pack there will also be owners of Wayne Rooney who must now be considering whether to spend points on additional transfers, or risk having a high-price player relegated to their bench.

Significantly, 8 of the top 10 FPL managers own Van der Vaart – Chris McGurn, the current overall leader is, however, not one of them.

Elsewhere in the Tottenham camp, Redknapp confirmed that Heurelho Gomes, Tom Huddlestone, William Gallas and Wilson Palacios were all “possibles” for a return. Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Alan Hutton and Jermaine Jenas are all fit and in his plans, but Steven Pienaar is a doubt along with Ledley King – Gareth Bale will remain sidelined.

    VDV / Yaya / Malouda / Barton
    RVP / Suarez / Bent

    1.8 in bank. Thinking Malouda > NZog (not sure on VDV fitness) and Bent > Tevez.

    Sound ok? Bent in good form but Suarez has been excellent away from home. Rivals have Adam but surely Nzog more likely to score higher? What are people with VDV doing? Stick or twist?

      oh you have lolarov and luiz? erm i think kolarov will play, zaba is struggling. well i'm hoping he will. i understand the cleansheet thing but if you do get a cleansheet won't that negate the 4 point hit?

        yeah sorry, quite confusing.
        I basically have Kolorov and Luiz at the moment. could lose one of them for Evans so i can afford to do Sturridge -> Berba (rather than Suarez -> Berba)

      In fairness there is a lot threads to look back through.

      Apparently the prices that players can be, transfers, transfer speculation and then RMT when the FPL lists are out

      That's what I've heard at least. I only joined late July last year

        Oracle-- confirming your great answer last night that the team finances update on the unnamed transfer in pre deadline. I tested it and found a Zamora out, Fletcher in transfer. Easy.

    I'm doing Rooney to Berba for my free.

    Do I need to take a 4 point hit to replace Odem (I'd have 9.4m to spend)? I'd probably be keeping the replacement on the bench, but I think I need bench cover with VDV and Nani doubts, as well as Luiz and Djourou.

      Well, there is no point taking a hit for a defender is there? Just let Walker and Carr come off the bench. Walker could get another assist/bonus, you never know. Dont take a hit for a defender, whatever you do.

        Yep, was never going to take a hit for a def, just meant that I need bench cover for Nani and VDV - the defenders on the bench might have to come in for Djourou and Luiz, so they can't come in for Nani or VDV.
