It has been revealed by Roy Hodgson that Peter Odemwingie’s season has finished early after the striker suffered an ankle injury. He will now certainly miss the Baggies’ last encounter of the season – a trip to the North East to face Newcastle.

The Nigerian forward has been one of the Premier League’s signings of the season, cropping up with 15 goals and 9 assists. This good form has established him as a firm Fantasy Premier League favourite and he currently holds an ownership of 19.7%.

If this final gameweek wasn’t stressful enough, almost one-in-five FPL Managers are now left with another last-gasp decision. At 5.8 Odemwingie stands out remarkably against other cheap forwards and it is generally slim pickings when pondering the rest of this price bracket.

The obvious choice would be Steven Fletcher of Wolves – one of the most in-form players in the league with 5 goals in his last 5 outings as well as 6 FPL bonus points. Priced at just 4.8, he could also free up an extra million for other areas of the squad in need of a last hurrah.

Going off past form, Marc-Antoine Fortune seems the most likely candidate to lead the Baggies line in Odemwingie’s absence. Even with a cheap 5.0 valuation, his record of just 2 goals and 1 assist in 24 Premier League games (albeit mostly as a sub) doesn’t make him particularly attractive. Fortune has rarely completed the full 90 minutes this season, so expect him to be replaced by Ishmael Miller.

With a dwindled potency, West Brom are lacking much attacking potential, a clean-sheet could be on the cards for the Newcastle backline. Those Managers shopping for a goalkeeper look no further than Tim Krul, at 3.9 he is as cheap as they come and holds the capacity to grab some end of season points.

Elsewhere in the Newcastle defence, Jose Enrique is a snip at 4.7 and offers assist and Bonus point potential, respectively notching up 2 and 11 this season. Whilst Steven Taylor has scored in his last 2 Premier League fixtures and is yours for just 3.9.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

What do people think of getting Van der Varrt out for Anderson and Sturridge out for Berbatov?

Couldn't decide to get rid of Van Persie or Bent for Berbatov so this is an alternative.

I really don't see the Anderson love at all, he generally can't hit a cows backside with a banjo and tapped in those Champions League goals, Berbatov IN obviously makes sesne, Barton instead of Ando?

Done my transfers, done Odemwingie > Berbatov and Luiz > R Taylor.

Didn't like any options in midfield so just kept VdV, Nani and Silva and if they don't play then Rodallega can auto sub in for whichever one misses out.

Why the Anderson hate?! Has Berbatov ever scored a winner to seal promotion with his side down to 6 outfield players? No. Has Tevez? No. Has Anderson? YES!

So what do you make of my casual player friend’s WC team for GW38:

    Hart (Bego)
    Evra ShawX Taylor (Foley, Alcaraz)
    Nani Adam Modric Nzogbia (Dempsey)
    RVP Tevez Berbatov

Any improvements spring to mind? PS is it the R. Taylor or S. Taylor bandwagon I'm hitching him up to?

Both Taylors, double up on the Taylors. Bring in Matt as well if you are wild-carding for a casual friend. Duran Duran had three of them and it didn't do them any harm.

If I was wild-carding I'd go the full monty

      Hennessey,
      S. Taylor, R. Taylor, Ward
      Sessegnon, Adam, Anderson, M. Taylor

Hmm, actually two Taylors is probably enough 🙂

But seriously if I did have a wild-card I would include the two Newcastle defenders. One is OOP and on set-pieces, the other has scored 2 in 2. That is outside of any clean-sheet potential for which Newcastle probably look the best bet out of any team this weekend against a Odemwingie-less WBA.

has anyone else thought that this season when its been thought that a team would 'slaughter' another it generally hasnt happened?

eg. blackpool at spurs a few weeks ago, newcastle at chelsea last week, blackpool in most of their away games. man city at home to the majority of teams.

thats why im not placing too much reliance on Man U destroying Blackpool on sunday. especially with their core players missing. blackpool have everything to play for and this is essentially a cup final for them. i dont think they'll get hammered by any means.

basically just trying to justify not having any Man U players for the final week. think i am edging towards Tevez (c) rather than Berba. City will be doing everything they can to finish 3rd and looks like bolton have given up the ghost for this season.

    thoughts?

also... what are folk with VDV doing? risking it an keeping him in or transfer out?

Last time he was 'leaving' Mancini said something along the lines of "He's fit and he is our Captain, why would I not play him'?
Maybe a bit different this time though, if he did tell Mancini he was staying, he's made him look a bit of an idiot.

no doubt about tevez starting I think. Mancini regularly picked him when fit even during that last transfer shennanigans.

Not sure about Nani in tho'....I'd prefer more certain starters, especially for that price.
Modric, Nzog, Adam appeal more if you don't already have them.

Mancini didn't care before. He wants to win and secure third and wants his best team available. No need to rotate with the last game of the season.

If fit he will play his best players and his best players are Tevez, Silva and Toure.

Unfortunately he also considers Kolorov as a best player, so Kolorov fans can sleep soundly...yes, your 1, or maybe 2 Kolorov pts will arrive as scheduled sunday afternoon.

is r taylot a nailed on starter...he doesn't seem it? I'm genuinely asking this as am also considering a cheap defender around the 3.9 - 4.5 mark and have seen his named mentioned a couple of times. Would have thought S Taylor would be better...got 8 in the last two weeks.

Newcastle do seem like the team to go for this week if in search of a cheap defender that has a chance of getting more than 2pt.

Calling Atilla.....can anyone get a kind of horned helmet version of the bat signal up around the newcastle area?

                ah, the very man.

Would you consider RTaylor the best Newcastle defender under 4.6 for this week. Is S Taylor as nailed on as Jesus?

                I can't afford Enrique.

I'd go for Ryan Taylor. 3.9 for someone who will be either RM or CM and takes all set pieces (apart from corners) is good value.
Steven Taylor has a little purple patch going though, 2 in 2. Can't argue with that so he could be good too. Overall though I'd pick RT not ST.

cheers. My lack of defence needs addressing this week and I need a cheapie.

It's either a wolves defender of a newcastle one and you are certainly wooing me with your sweet nothings about Ryan the set piece taking defender.

Like many others my team is looking depleted...

Protecting a 36 point lead with the following

    Cheh,Kingson
    Carr, (Smalling),(Huth), (Luiz), (Kolarov)
    Kuyt, (VDV), Thomas, Yaya, Lamps
    (Chica), (Odem), RVP

    7 players possibly out!!!

    What is the best strategy?

    I'm thinking Odem,VDV,Huth --> Walker,NZog,Tevez 8 point hit?
