James Rodriguez scores both goals as Colombia eliminate a Luis Suarez-less Uruguay. Earlier in the evening, Brazil defeat Chile on spot-kicks after finishing all-square after 120 minutes, with David Luiz and Alexis Sanchez grabbing the goals in normal time:

Hosts Scrape Through on Penalties
Phil Scolari’s side squeezed past Chile with an unconvincing display that may have many Fantasy managers thinking twice over loading up on their main assets. Defensively, Brazil have failed to impress so far and now have a single clean sheet in four appearances, though David Luiz continues to deliver the returns – he added to his recent assist against Cameroon with the opener in yesterday’s win.

Up top, Neymar, having scored twice in two of his first three appearances, was an armband favourite for many but the Barcelona man was limited to just a single shot on target, with three of his efforts wayward. Indeed, the hosts had 23 attempts over the 120 minutes but mustered a mere six on target in a below-par display.

Scolari made one change for yesterday’s game, with Man City’s Fernandinho coming in for Paulinho in the centre of the park. The Brazil boss has a midfield dilemma for the upcoming clash with Colombia, though – Luis Gustavo’s yellow card means he is set to serve a one-match suspension.

Sanchez Strikes Again
Jorge Sampaoli also made a single alteration, bringing in Arturo Vidal for Felipe Gutierrez, with Charles Aranguiz dropping deeper in the centre of the park to accommodate the Juventus man. Once again, Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas were in the points for Chile – the former’s equaliser means he ended the tournament with two goals and an assist, while Vargas, having teed up Sanchez’ strike, delivered a goal and two assists over his four appearances.

In the FIFA McDonalds game, the Brazil back-four impressed for recovered balls. Marcelo’s 13 was top, with Luis Gustavo (10) Thiago Silva (nine), David Luiz (eight) and Dani Alves (seven) next in line. For Chile, Francisco Silva led the way with 10, followed by Marcelo Diaz and Gary Medel, with nine apiece, and Charles Aranguiz, Mauricio Isla and Euguenio Mena, with seven.

Rodriguez at the Double
The Colombia midfielder is staking a real claim for player of the tournament after yet another superb showing last night. Rodriguez’s outstanding opener, followed by a tap-in, took his tally to five goals for the campaign – top scorer in the World Cup thus far – and with a couple of assists also to his name, the Monaco man has proven to be a must-have across the Fantasy games.

Elsewhere in the midfield, Juan Cuadrado also served up the points for the fourth consecutive appearance. The winger’s assist means he now has a goal and four assists for the tournament and underlines his budget-friendly appeal – doubling up on the Colombia midfield pair has proven to be a canny tactic so far and owners will surely hold ahead of the Brazil game, given that Jose Pekerman’s side having scored at least twice in all four of their fixtures so far.

Personnel-wise, having rang the changes in the final group game against Japan, Pekerman recalled his first-choice options for last night’s 2-0 win. Keeper David Ospina and left-back Pablo Armero in defence, Fantasy favourite Cuadrado on the right and Jackson Martinez, who was rewarded for his two-goal salvo against the Japanese with his second start of the tournament.

In the FIFA McDonalds game, Cristian Zapata and Abel Aguilar managed nine recovered balls for Colombia, with Juan Zuniga next best on five. For Uruguay, Martin Caceres was top with seven, while Diego Godin and Egidio Arevalo-Rios registered five apiece.

Need to decide to play cillessen or karnezis ahead of time for tonight since I'm working and won't be able to swap inbetween matches.

I think cillessen is more likely to get a clean sheet but unlikely to make many saves whereas I can see Karnezis being busier and making more saves.

Any thoughts on which one I should go for?

He's world class and would get 20+. Majority of suarez's goals were in maulings of the weak teams not the important games. Suarez's 4 vs norwich for example, all of little consequence as they couldve won the game without him

Not sure why you're "not convinced" then. Very good player from what I've seen, always wants the ball but can also do the defensive work. Really looking forward to him and his progress under LVG.

Shaw I agree overpriced but at the same time proven in the PL and if he gives us 10-15 years of service the same way Rio and Rooney have then he'll be a bargain.

But most players on that wage are proven season veterans with a couple seasons experience minimum so there's less chance of it. What you going to have to pay him in a couple years for a contract extension 250k for a left back? 😀

Still don't believe these 160k p/w being branded about, could just as easily be the 100k reported elsewhere. Regardless, I agree that he's expensive but if he sticks around for 10+ years which he could easily do then it's a top deal.

Anybody else think the EPL is technically poor? Armero the Colombian left back couldnt even get in the west ham team.

Lots of arguments that foreign players stop the development of english players. Why dont english players ever go abroad?

Lallana to monaco? Lambert to lazio? Baines to atletico. You get the idea. It just would never happen. Not good enough.

Bale, beckham and others have been succesful but thats not the norm is it.

Just annoys me that certain people i know had never heard of james rodriguez til two weeks ago yet could write a 70 page essay on jonathan walters.

The world doesnt revolve arond the EPL

There are good reasons on all this.

First, if you are an average Brittish player, you will earn more in England than anywhere else.
Why? UK clubs have to have UK players due to home grown rule. So you are needed, whereas a foreign club doesnt need an average UK player.

EPL pays high because they need you and because it isa popular league to watch due to the fact it has a high level of competition and is played at a high pace.

In truth, La Liga is very poor at the lower end compared to the top. The gap is too high. Top EPL clubs arent as good as Barca and Real, but bottom La Liga clubs are better than bottom La Liga clubs. That makes.more games competitive and competition is entertaining.

France and Italy are too slow paced. Germany has one club too big compared to the others.

EPL has 6 or 7 clubs all at a very closely matched level. The 7th club this year wrre 1st last and the 7th club last year were 2nd this year. A bad year for Barca is never outwith top 4. The teams below them arent good enough for that.

This makes for more money. Why would say, Walters go to France for less money?
Only moves to top clubs like Bale make sense. Real pay more than EPL sides and can offer something most EPL sides cant. A champions league winners medal.

While I do agree, I think for me part of the reason I'd prefer to watch Hull WBA is because of familiarity. Like it or not I know far more about their players.
That plus I may have one of them in my FPL team. 😉

Not sure if you follow @RafaelH117 on Twitter but he's both quick and reliable with Barcelona news. Some tweets re: Sanchez:

      Rafael Hernández @RafaelH117 · 22h
Xavi Torres claims Alexis Sánchez has 3 offers from the Premier League and will decide on his future. He's quite reliable.

      Rafael Hernández @RafaelH117 · 21h
Barça has to sell Alexis Sanchez to fund part of the move for Suarez, and the upcoming transfer ban for 2015 increases the budget for 2014.

      Rafael Hernández @RafaelH117 · 21h
Cash + Sánchez for Suárez is a tough deal, isn't easy to complete such operation. Hence Barça trying to do things separately.

      Also Sergi Domniguez:

      Sergi Domínguez @FutbolSergi · 11h
Re Alexis giving his 'OK' to Arsenal: No truth into it. The player is yet to make a decision on his future.

      Sergi Domínguez @FutbolSergi · 11h

Yea that's a good point as well. I'm only leaning towards the reporters in this case because it's been heavily reported from a while back that specific players of Barcelona would almost certainly be leaving this summer and that included Sanchez. Guess we'll have to wait and see how this pans out. My prediction is that he'll go to Arsenal.

This makes more sense to me, they'd have to meet his buyout clause, Barcelona won't be looking to sell him. Buyout clause is pretty step too so not sure who will stump up the money for that.

Not really as reporters do gain from these links, more followers etc. Not going to make extra $ since they'd have to meet his buyout clause at 40 million... The way I rank news is official club statements followed by reputable journalists, those you have linked are reputable certainly but I've yet to be remotely convinced.

I can imagine liverpool are very much in a catch 22 scenario with Sanchez. Liverpool only buy sanchez if have money from suarez and would only sell suarez if know get sanchez.

I'd probably captain RVP even if he was on the bench for some reason then.
