Our weekly Watchlist refresh took place earlier today and the eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted the latest ranking changes for our mid-term player recommendations. Those new to all this shebang can find the Watchlist rankings at the bottom of the sidebar on your frontpage.

Movement within the rankings is pretty tame in comparison to previous weeks with Chelsea’s fixtures kind enough to see their top rated players – Petr Cech, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba hold firm in top spots. Improved runs for both United and Arsenal have seen their assets enjoy climbs however, with Cesc Fabregas coming close to toppling Nani at the top of our Midfield rankings.

In the Keepers table there are climbs for Tim Howard of Everton and Jussi Jaaskelainen of Bolton as both embark on kind opponent runs. Our earlier “Frisking of the Fixtures” revealed that both teams are set to embark on schedules that bring them four home fixtures in the next six Gameweeks.

Arsenal were also singled out in that article and subsequently we see Lucasz Fabianski holding firm in the Keeper rankings, despite the impending threat from Manuel Almunia. The Pole’s performance at Eastlands last weekend should be enough to see him maintain his start and, with a clean sheet in that game, the Gunners will go into their next three Gameweeks with renewed confidence at the back.

That’s also reflected in our Defenders rankings where Sébastien Squillaci enjoys a climb in the middle of the table. Above him we have the goal threat and improved clean sheet potential of Gary Cahill and the latest bargain acquisition in the form of Newcastle’s Danny Simpson. He returned to the starting lineup at Upton Park last time out and at 3.9 offers a superb “route to recruit” option for Fabregas hunters. Simpson’s rise has Jose Enrique dropping, despite his stronger assist potential. Newcastle’s clean sheet returns have been disappointing but three strong home fixtures in the next four certainly shows promise.

Out top five Defenders remain untouched with Chelsea’s Cole attracting Bonus Points in addition to clean sheets, the Everton pairing of Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines offering strong attacking potential along with Sunderland’s “out of position” Egyptian Elmohamady. United’s Patrice Evra has also enjoyed a recent boost having claimed a left midfield starting role at Stoke last weekend. That could well continue to be the case against Spurs in Gameweek ten. John O’Shea enters high again as the cheaper option in a United defence which should pick up points in the next month with four Old Trafford encounters in the next six.

The top positions in the midfield area also survived. Fabregas pushed Nani for the top spot, while Rafael Van der Vaart held on to the fifth with his goal against Everton, despite facing trips to United and Bolton next. Climbs for West Brom’s Chris Brunt and Arsenal’s Samir Nasri weren’t quite enough to see them break the top five then. Below them Kevin Nolan’s goal and link-up with housemate Andy Carroll appears to bode well ahead of Newcastle’s run of home fixtures. Ashley Young also enjoys a climb as his fixtures improve slightly with four home games in six, even if the opponents include both United and Arsenal.

Injury concerns for Carlos Tevez and the new threat of rotation with Mario Balotelli has him drop from second in the Forward rankings. Below him he’s now threatened by the resurging Andy Carroll and the consistent form of Johan Elmander which, given his fixtures to come, could continue to bear fruit for those Fantasy Managers taking a punt on Bolton’s Swede. Fulham’s returning trickster Mousa Dembele is an interesting climb at the halfway point, while West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie needs to shake off his injury woes to re-establish himself in the top five. He drops today but could climb again if we can get solid news on his fitness. Finally, Mexican of the moment, Javier Hernandez has to settle for a surprisingly lowly footing. The threat of Rooney’s return in a fortnight surely dents his potential beyond Gameweek’s ten and eleven.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My defense is crap. Feel the need to get bosingwa in long term. I have 2 transfers and 0.2m in the bank

    Foster Carson
    Jara Dann Shawx Elmo Jones
    Fabs VdV Malouda Ferguson Nani
    Drogs Carroll Berbs

the only way I can do it is Shawx and Dann out for Bosingwa and a 4M defender (either Foley, Tamas, Crainey or A.N Other)
    OR
Malouda to Nasri (double up on Arse mids??)
    Shawx to Bosingwa
Have to do it tonight b4 Bosingwa goes up. Hepl please.

probably, but fabregas will outscore malouda over the course of the season. it's the only long term transfer that is on the horizon if you already have Elmo/A.Cole/VDV/Nani/Drogba/Tevez in your team. Hopefully Coleman can be added to that list shortly, he's only not there because of the rotation threat hanging round his neck like an albatross of rotation DOOM 🙂

admittedly it's not great but having 4 away from home and Jones v Chelsea isn't helping in term of perspective (basically in any other week it's not that bad).

If you do it and Bos doesn't play your screwed.

Carrol has the better fixtures to be honest, 3 home in the next 4 compared to Elmanders 2 home in the next 4 (albeit that he does better away), I would stick with Carroll if I were you. Bale OUT Fabregas IN is a no brainer, although I do see Bale terrorising us at OT, what's rest of your team, that's a waste of a freebie for me.

Nani, VdV, Fabregas, Adam, Boa Morte

    I could have
    Gilks, Al-Habsi
    Elmo, DISTIN, A.HUGHES, Simpson, Tamas
    Nani, VdV, Fabregas, Adam, ARTETA
    Drogba, Tevez, ELMANDER

I would have imagined you looked at the next three weeks. Keep the team as it is, no transfers.

I will I will, just fiddling about with what ifs, lamenting and wringing my hands. I think last week was a rare one. Tevez, Fabregas, Drogba, Berbatov, Adam, Nani all did nothing. There wont be many others that bad (hopefully)

Atilla, Atilla, Atilla, Berbatov at home against old club? Keep him this weekend. NOthing wrong with that team at all, I would hold off doing anything this week, play:

        Gilks
        Elmo/Bosingwa/Simpson
        Nani/VDV/Fabgreas/Adam
        Drogba/Berbatov/Tevez

Yeah will do Johnny, as I said before just a little bit of self indulgent morose moaning - I know its a 90% killer team and that I was just unlucky last week. Thats the exact lineup I have chosen too - so great minds and all that. Defence is a bit of a ropey affair but hopefully the big boys will cover it.

      1. I'd sack Gilks off for Mignolet/Krul
      2. I'd pick option 2 but change Adam>Cleverley and A.Hughes>Bosingwa
      3. When Odemwingie gets back i'd then take Elmander out and upgrade Tamas to Coleman if he's still starting by then

well, either do them first thing to get a price increase (risky) or do it last thing and get a guarantee of sorts.

But midweek is a no-no unless you're desperate to catch someone before a price rise.

Your midfield is the only area that doesn't require any tinkering to be honest. I would stick with Nasri this week and look to bring in Fabregas next week, Brunt is in great form, Nani/VDV are keepers. I am doing Malouda OUT Fabregas IN this week though, so for you, Tevez OUT Carroll IN and Malouda OUT Fabregas IN this week for 4 isn't a bad move.

I still think this week you should leave your midfield and focus on your squad players, so Tevez OUT Carroll IN and upgrade Harewood to Elmander

I notice that alot of people are looking at hits to get Fabregas back in this week, making my decision to just go Malouda OUT Fabregas IN instead of a hit this week an easier decision to make, 6 out of 10 people in one of my leagues don't have the cash to do it in one move, 4 point lead at the start of the week if they want him, I'll take that!

Same as I was just thinking after reading through the posts. Lot of point hits being talked about. Gerrard to Fabregas for me. But I could be tempted to bring in Arteta, Nasri, or Bosingwa by the weekend if every one else is taking a 4 pointer.

    How's this looking?

    Davies -> Fabregas
    Jones -> Bosingwa
    Tevez -> Carroll

    Hart (Foster)
    Konchesky | Bosingwa | Elmo
    Malouda | VDV | Nani | Fabregas
    Drogba | Carroll | Dembele
    Sub: Barton | Alcaraz | O'Shea

Would clean out some of the crap while getting Fabs in.

Davies and Jones are both good moves, and I suppose if you have to finance it Tevez out with doubts as to fitness isn't the worst idea, that being said I wouldn't burn 8 points on it. How about Tevez OUT Carroll IN this week and Davies OUT Fabregas IN this week for 4? Bosingwa is not nailed on (although I am sure he will play) and Chelsea are away

that's contradictory in a way, Jones out is a good move, but not necissarily this week for 4

I am happy with my team this GW, but not my captain yet....

    My best options are :

Nani - home, but to a good Spurs
Nasri - home to West Ham, but will be 100% start and play ?
    Drogba - away to Blackburn
Berbatov - home, but not sure I can see him doing much against Spurs
Adam - wildcard choice...home to Baggies

Who would you captain out of those, given their fixtures ? 🙂

Same here....I have gone off United players for this one, as Spurs will be tough....1-1 draw ?

Nasri, if he plays, could do damage....Drogba MAY do well away at BLK...but at least he will play. Nasri may be rested.....

Solution is this for me...I will captian Nasri, and if he does not play, set Value - so I get Drogba instead...:)

Yep, as a Gooner myself, I am edging towards him.

But this is JUST the sort of match (certain win at home to West Ham)that Wenger would rest someone like Nasri....

I really, really tried to like Fallout 3 (bought it launch day), but couldn't really get into it, unlike my beloved Oblivion. I still want New Vegas though. What's a nerd to do? Hmm...

I've been a big fan of the whole Fallout series, not really a gamer normally though. Just really enjoy the humor in it and hope New Vegas continue where Fallout 3 ended.

Because obviously if Tevez doesn't play, then they will both be going in for a 5 man Mid..?
