Versus – Low to Mid-Price Midfielders

With the season now just a fortnight away, we turn our attentions to a number of kindly priced midfielders in our latest article for members. Picking the right combinations in the mid-price bracket looks crucial to a strong start and with Fantasy managers debating the merits of a number of targets, we scour the statistics to assess their previous form.

For the purpose of this article, we’ve selected seven midfielders, no more than 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, who have proven popular picks so far and/or are set for some favourable opening fixtures – potentially affording them the chance to hand us an early-season bandwagon. Comparing their respective statistics, we also dig deeper into seasons gone by in our attempt to ascertain the best options for our initial lineups.

      Same goalkeepers as me. Allows you to get more 4.5 defs. Have you thought of Ferinand and N Taylor instead of Cameron and Mariappa? More guaranteed.

    Can someone explain albrighton to me?

    I had him as many did but upgraded to hoilett.

    I know he is a cheap option and bench fodder but he plays on the wing and has had zero input into pre season so far.

    What are you hoping for, a decent cross?

      Unless you're playing a 352 then you're 5th should cost as little as possible because he'll rarely if ever play, right?

      So, *if* Albrighton starts then he offers much more than most in that price bracket.

      I set up a quick team there last night without him in it. But I am doubting myself now great fixtures from gw4-10. I have no liverpool players because I don't think they will do as well as last year.

      Not sure if it's a silly way to look at it, but I'm dodging him because of the injury record. It's probably an overreaction, but when needing a fixed squad for the opening 20 fixtures, I'd rather not risk injury-prone players and I'll settle for Sterling instead - and take the loan if he does start to do too much damage.

        Yeah I know what you mean. Apparently he has already injured himself in pre season! Might be best to go for a less injury prone player. Only problem is, if he stays fit, he is guaranteed to score a lot of goals.

          Yeah, I have to say - I did have him in until the injury news. At that point I downgraded him to Costa, switched Fabregas to Sterling and spent the saved cash improving elsewhere in midfield. I like the overall look of the team more for it.

          Last year I picked Countinho instead of sturridge in the free fpl game because he was an injury doubt at the start of the season. You can guess how well that went! 🙂

      Don't see the point in rotating someone like Sigurdsson who is highly explosive could end up missing some big points.

    anyone settled on a total fpl squad? i just joined up today and it looks like right head ache. What way are you distributing your cash? at the moment i have 1 big def, 4 big mids and 4 big forwards (where big def= 5.5+, big mid/forward= 8.0+) my theory is that the cheaper defenders will be the ones that actually have to defend so will do better with clearances etc. (though thats based on speculation only)

      Eriksen for me, when prices came out everyone was raving about eriksens price (expecting 9.0m).....not going to make the same mistake as i did with coleman last year (similarly good value but didnt pick him).

      Most players did play further up and then converted to the back. My mate is quite good, looks so good in midfield when playing with mates, but he plays LB for his actual team.

      Hazard is not even the best bet from Chelsea mate. I have gone Costa. Hazard will be rotated a bit, Costa will play most games.

      Whereas Sanchez is set to be Arsenal's main striker....

    Does it mean the wing backs are more attractive over CB's e.g. Shaw and Simpson for instance?

      Depends of the manager has choices from game to game....Shaw being a good example. His game time could well depend on whether LVG's emphasis is on "wing" or "back" for any paticular game...

      Let's look at the hard evidence...many say "oh he is very attacking full back." Tosh. He got 2 assists at Soton last season !

      Jones, Evans, Rafael...will get just as many points as Shaw, and cheaper. I have gone Jones
