Versus – Low to Mid-Price Midfielders

With the season now just a fortnight away, we turn our attentions to a number of kindly priced midfielders in our latest article for members. Picking the right combinations in the mid-price bracket looks crucial to a strong start and with Fantasy managers debating the merits of a number of targets, we scour the statistics to assess their previous form.

For the purpose of this article, we’ve selected seven midfielders, no more than 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, who have proven popular picks so far and/or are set for some favourable opening fixtures – potentially affording them the chance to hand us an early-season bandwagon. Comparing their respective statistics, we also dig deeper into seasons gone by in our attempt to ascertain the best options for our initial lineups.

    Has the hazard vs Fabregas debate kinda been answered by Costa arrival?

    Surely Costa going to take pens, with both haz and fab playing in a super 3 behind costa. 1 mil saved.

    I'm relatively new to this site. I joined because I heard the community is great here and it's helpful towards the fantasy league. My first question on here is about formations. In y'all opinions, what do you all believe is the best formation to run in the fantasy league if you're seriously about winning a mini league with pals or just doing well in general on the bigger scale?

      Forget about formations would be my advice. One isn't better/more lucrative than the other. Depends on the players you have and the fixtures in a specific week.

          Well with B, Hendo can have another solid season and Giroud, I know people probably give him a tough time but he has some nice stats in the league, I will even say getting him for 8.5 is a steal

      Well over the years these guys has been in the league, both guys has been fair consistent. Nice points they get from midfield and both of them had at some point a break out season, Silva about three seasons ago and toure last year, so I don't think you can go wrong really with those guys, but I'll go for Silva

      Kolorov isn't nailed, neither is Wisdom, Luis not a guaranteed starter as of yet either, Vlaar had a great world cup but at the end of the day he plays for Villa.

      Luis is not the attacking full back some think he is - yes he will keep clean sheets but Im avoiding any of chelsea's backline until the first 6 gameweeks. Jones for me over Evans, Villa's fixtures are awful after gameweek 3

    So I finally signed up as a member last night and I have to say I'm amazed by the wealth of stats/tools that the site offers, just amazing. Well done to guys who run this place! I thought I'd have a quick go on the Build My Team tool, to see how the predicted stats compare with my own gut instinct (and forum following). Here's what the computer says:

    Foster / Myhill
    Evans / Clyne / O'Shea / Coloccini / Wisdom
    Yaya / Hazard / Eriksen / Tadic / Albrighton
    Rooney / Lukaku / Pelle

    That scores 325.68 on the default 6 week setting, which was the highest I could get (though I might be wrong). Quite interesting, but a bit Southampton-heavy for my liking.

    Has anyone ever gone through a whole season making decisions based only on what the RMT tool says? I'd be interested to see how the models compare with my own past seasons....

        Oh yeah, I totally understand that. I Just wouldn't take punts on both Pelle and Tadic myself though, given they're both new and in a team that has seen so many changes. I guess it's quite difficult to factor stuff like that into the data though!

          Im keen on Tadic - yes wholesale changes in Southampton this year but Koeman is a quality manager who plays attacking football and given their opening 12 fixtures and good preseason and the likellihood his price will rise Im backing Tadic. Doos was saying that a new player to the PL is likely overpriced but there's something about this guy that fills me with confidence he is the real deal.

        If they don't have the strongest defence I'll be amazed. I see lots of 1 nil wins too. Drogba wasn't prolific straight away when he went there. Some games might be an assist by costa because of a dodgy penalty scored by hazard, a yellow card from him later on, clean sheet, no bonus points, 4/5 points.

      Well to be fair, you have goal keepers that will probably be busy with saves and keep a fairly ok amount of clean sheets so that's fine, the defense, Cameron may not be so nailed on because of Bardsley and Shaw atm is deemed 'unfit' by LVG to really run the WB position, so he is a risk possibly at this time, other than that, you're team, I'll say it's pretty decent

      The only things to say with your starting line up is that not too sure if Wisdom and Ben Davies are nailed on at the moment. As for Lovren, I think that's a nice pick. Liverpool to me anyway though they have rough fixtures to start off with, I believe they'll improve on that 10 CS they got last year so it's a good pick, the rest of your starting team is fine

          Ward is only defender nailed on.

          Get some definite starters and take a risk on cheaper potential rotators like Wisdom imo.

      I think unless u are prepared to fork out the dosh for yaya then it seems the right option to go for dzeko/jovetic

      I'm on the same boat with you, I have none at this time but it really feels wrong as your said :D. Honestly if I want someone, it's either Jovetic for the while until or rather if he loses his place on the team or someone like Silva who has always giving solid midfield stats and nice bonus points throughout the years

    United has been pretty decent at the back in pre season. With their favourable fixtures is it an idea to double up at the back? I like this draft. What do you say?

      Its the quandry for me too. Two at the back means only one attacker and Im more keen on two attacking Man U players and one defender.

      I wouldn't double up on United defence to begin with. Other options for the same price could be Lovren or Debuchy
