With the season now just a fortnight away, we turn our attentions to a number of kindly priced midfielders in our latest article for members. Picking the right combinations in the mid-price bracket looks crucial to a strong start and with Fantasy managers debating the merits of a number of targets, we scour the statistics to assess their previous form.

For the purpose of this article, we’ve selected seven midfielders, no more than 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, who have proven popular picks so far and/or are set for some favourable opening fixtures – potentially affording them the chance to hand us an early-season bandwagon. Comparing their respective statistics, we also dig deeper into seasons gone by in our attempt to ascertain the best options for our initial lineups.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Does anyone think Lamela is worth a punt? He's been impressive in preseaon and has bags of potential + pochettino has promised him a key role for spurs this season.

I think this is a good plan. Start with Costa, but have a plan in place to find the extra million and upgrade to Sturridge if he's fit and on form after the international break. But the cynic in me pretty much expects him to be out of the internationals through injury, and we'll all spend the two weeks wondering whether to gamble on him for the following week or not.

To me the value this year seems to be in mid priced mids (6-8 mil), so what would it be a good idea to line up with a rotating midfield five of Siggy, arnie, henderson and mata/erikson/lamela/ramsey and going big in defence and upfront? All of these players should do well and rise in price and aren't to risky from the start whereas the likes of sanchez could tumble after a couple of blanks.

Lamela is an interesting person to have on your team. Didn't do well at all last season and looks like with a new coach, he has some life in him again. So if you have a gut feeling on him, don't change it. If you're not too confident on him, then you should upgrade to Fabs

Fantastic analysis in the members article, and backs up some of the Siggy thinking if he gets the game time and role expected at Swansea.

I'm still not convinced on Hendo, but Snoddy could well be an option to Jelly / Long for the early fixtures based on the stats.

How's the team shaping up ?

Not put much thought into mine over last week or so since I've been on hols but think of holding this in midfield...

Have similar in Midfield, not convinced Sanchez is worth it yet and Ramsey looked dangerous as ever today - he's tempting me.

Yep, it is Evans. LVG already stated about Shaw's Fitness levels to be a WB, as for the 3 CB, at this time, it really looks like Evans is the one he prefers the most, then Jones, and I'll say Smalling is last, so if Man United gets a new CB, I believe Smalling's place will be taken

Had him until recently but got rid as he's not going to get any bonus points and will get less save points than other keepers.(currently have begovic, krul)

    Speroni - Green
    Terry - N. Taylor - Cameron - Bruce - van Aanholt
Silva - Siggy - Lamela - Ramsey- Fabregas
    Rooney - Lukaku - Bojan

Ballsy 3-5-2 team. Any thoughts welcome! Especially on the defence

    (A) DDG + Luis
    or
    (B) Courtois + Jones

Currently on A, though Luis was pretty nailed but heard a few people on here say otherwise. Jones looks nailed on for B but again Cech is someone I could see filling in for Courtois from time to time and with only 1 playing keeper I could be left keeper-less the odd GW

The midfield is fine but Liverpool have a tough start...

Could downgrade Siggy for Hazard over Fab, but maybe you;'re thinking Fab will play further up the first couple of GWs

Why all this talk about Luis not nailed on? They have spend a lot on him and he is a specialized LB. What I have seen from him pre season have been absolute class. Something I have missed?

Don't mind the Vertonghen pick. I believe he'll have a good year. As for starting with 2 Everton players, I'm a bit less optimistic about that. Overall fairly good for a team with a bit more variation.

I think man utd will def be in the top four.

Liverpool will be like spurs. Too many new signings. No end product.

... Liverpool haven't signed a new team though, they have the same core of players and arguably the only first team regulars will be Lallana and Lovren.

Anybody watch much La Liga? Spurs are apparently on the verge of signing Villareal's Argentinian CB Mateo Musacchio. Looks good on youtube, but then...

Yea, I'm a huge La Liga fan. To tell you with Musacchio, He's a pretty solid tackler and his read of the game is ok, I won't say it's the best. A huge negative with him, he's pretty weak in the air

So I'm basically saying, if it's true tottenham is paying something like 17mil for him, it's very overpriced

      Too call!

Everton's start is quite bad but Tottenham's are good

Chelsea start well and Terry's well rested and Arsenal's aren;t too bad and Ramsey's hitting form...

      I would err B
