With the season now just a fortnight away, we turn our attentions to a number of kindly priced midfielders in our latest article for members. Picking the right combinations in the mid-price bracket looks crucial to a strong start and with Fantasy managers debating the merits of a number of targets, we scour the statistics to assess their previous form.

For the purpose of this article, we’ve selected seven midfielders, no more than 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, who have proven popular picks so far and/or are set for some favourable opening fixtures – potentially affording them the chance to hand us an early-season bandwagon. Comparing their respective statistics, we also dig deeper into seasons gone by in our attempt to ascertain the best options for our initial lineups.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

So you go for Ramsey (21%) which is fair enough but Sanchez (29%) starts up front and nails it. How are you going to get him without major surgery or WC? If Ramsey does the biz however it's a simple fix. I can't see any reason for risking starting without Sanchez

Not as the main striker but he'll play mostly as part of a front three, or possibly at times playing off Sturridge. Similar, but not entirely the same.

Sturridge's hot streak of fixtures coincides with when Costa's ends doesn't it? Easy swap there, especially if Costa has had a significant price hike/Sturridge's price has plummeted.

one of the problems of spreading the cash around. eg ddg and say eriksen, siggy etc. makes it more difficult to say do ramsey to alexis or a striker to costa.

you might end up needing to sell 3 players to get on a big hitter

You invest in a Sturridge Bank (trademarked) at the start of the season. Once other things become clearer or if Sturridge isn't performing as well as he should be, you trade him down and trade up your worst performing premium midfielder.

Not if you did the 2 trades in separate weeks or saved a trade and had 2FT's.

The only option that would only use 1 transfer is if you leave 1.5 in the bank at the start of the year and then trade up. Unlike some, that's not how I want to invest my funds at the start of the season.

Same with Hazard vs Cesc for me, a downgrade is much simpler than having to find funds from elsewhere and probably spending 4 points in the process. Although you could start with some money in the bank, but £2.0m is too much to not be invested initially in my opinion.

The other thing you can do is start with Yaya (or a cheaper mid and money ITB). It's a tough choice between Sanchez & Ramsey, but I won't let ownership sway me one way or the other.

If Sanchez become s essential he is easily obtainable for a -4 hit if you start with attacking players something like this:

      Ramsey / 9.0 / 9.0 / 6.0 / 4.5

      10.5 / 10.5 / 8.5

      Ramsey > Sanchez & 8.5 striker > Bojan / Fletcher

      Ramsey > Sanchez & 9.0 mid > Snodgrass / De Jong / Young / Valencia / Tadic etc etc

So Sanchez looked awesome (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-suRIZ1ZhOQ), and has now come on twice for the gunners. Hazard played for the first time against Bremen and looked quite rusty. Given that Haz only started training a couple of days ago, and will take time to get back to it, I think Sanchez will start in my team. He also played more through the middle than I expected, think he will be awesome.

also there isn't that much chemistry atm so that will take a bit of time...he is also better from the right cutting in rather than playing as a lone striker - his pace/dribbling/movement/industry is wasted up front

Play some eenie meenie miney moe over which City attacker you want.

Your last attacker is dependant on how much you want to spend. Expensive options are Sturridge and Costa, mid price options are Giroud, Bony, Adebayor and the City striker you didn't choose above, and budget options are Austin, Long, Jelavic, Bojan and Nugent.

Short term their strikers are terrific (better than Silva), and need I remind you that there is no such thing as 'coverage'? After 2-3 gameweeks (or whenever Aguero takes away their minutes) you can swap them to the striker with the best form who is within your budget.

I'm honestly considering getting both Dzeko and Jovetic for the start of the season.

True actually. I often set up with a rotating pair and end up selling one of them a few weeks in. In defence the temptation is to stick with rotations, up front you don't give selling misfiring attackers a second thought.

I reckon a cheap defence consisting of 1 of Man U, Stoke, WBA, CPL and Sunderland with a transfer of the WBA player to West Ham in GW 14 works out very well all the way to January. If anyone is at all interested I could give you which matches they would be playing each week.

Sunderland were actually pretty stout defensively after Poyet had time to influence the squad. They kept a fair amount of cleans late - would definitely prefer them to probably all of the projected bottom half teams' defenses.

The 9m bracket is so full of proven fpl midfielders this year. Sure upfront you can even get Rooney at a snip of 10.5m for the coming season.

Yet i'm eternally drawn to the 8m potential stars of Eriksen, Lamela, Coutinho, Tadic etc and up front, the likes of Lukaku, Jovetic and so forth.

I blame football manager. Always encouraging you to go for the next big thing rather then the established 28 year old current star...

But it's so much more interesting with the risks and punts...:P

I do hope Cameron plays as a DM if Bardsley beats him out for the RB role as Bardsley isn't the greatest RB in the world (let alone the squad).

Bardsley's attacking potential would be excellent at 5.0, but you're right, it could make Stoke more vulnerable which would dent Begovic's appeal a bit.
