With the season now just a fortnight away, we turn our attentions to a number of kindly priced midfielders in our latest article for members. Picking the right combinations in the mid-price bracket looks crucial to a strong start and with Fantasy managers debating the merits of a number of targets, we scour the statistics to assess their previous form.

For the purpose of this article, we’ve selected seven midfielders, no more than 6.5 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, who have proven popular picks so far and/or are set for some favourable opening fixtures – potentially affording them the chance to hand us an early-season bandwagon. Comparing their respective statistics, we also dig deeper into seasons gone by in our attempt to ascertain the best options for our initial lineups.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Lack of 5,5 mids forces us into 3-5-2?

What are the stand out options of sub 5,5 mids?

For forwards we have bojan , fletcher, campell that could be great value for money

is it after all better to opt for 3-5-2 as there are not great sub 5,5 mil mids?

    thoughts please?

i like Arfield and Davis.. @5.5 Gomez could be gold . i do however agree that Bojan and Fletcher have more points potential.

You could risk it and go: ince and Brady and hope they play because they are both very talented young prospects.

      JWP

Davis looks good at 5.0, I'm also quietly backing Colback to tick over well at that price.

I reckon he'll be playing pretty much every week - he's taking all the corners too, although Newcastle are truly appalling at generating goals from set pieces.

As a toon fan - I certainly echo your sentiment about out set piece ability 😛 Colback is looking very nice in pre-season, though when he signed I thought he'd struggle to nail down a starting place. Remains to be seen I suppose, though certainly one to monitor.

It's a balancing act. Obviously I really like the balance of that team. If I end up going with that front 3 as is in many of my drafts then I will have a very similar team. My issue is that I feel that 1 x 10mil+ player is required. It's so much easier to downgrade from Sanchez to Ramsey than it is to do the reverse.

In general though, as I said, it's a very nice team, and one that I am seriously considering. My only feedback would be to drop albrighton for a lesser owned 4.5 to avoid the inevitable price drops.

i agree my main concern is no sanchez, however if forced one hit isn't going to hurt a lot. dzeko/costa/terry all could be easily downgraded to an early bandwagon to rise in value and sanchez can come in. fwiw i think ramsey will outscore sanchez the first 3 weeks anyway.

Morning chaps, please rate my team:

    DDG, Gilks
    Debuchy, Luis, Rio, Rosenior, Mariappa
    Mata, Ramsey, Lamela, Siggy, Traore
    Rooney, Costa, Jovetic

Jovetic can become Dzeko with a 4.5 defender downgrade.

I am thinking this one looks perfect:-

    Foster/Krul

Huth - Chester - Ferdinand (Clyne - Taylor)

Mata - Ramsey - Fab - Erikson (Sigurdsson)

    Rooney - Costa - Bojan

Goal: Think one of these 2 keeps will end up a bargain, nice rotation.

Defense: This 5 way rotation gives a good set of fixtures and these teams have CS chances.

Mid: All great, will probably rotate Siggy/Bojan so play 3-4-3 then 3-5-2.

For: Think Rooney and Costa have the main chances of points, Bojan is a punt but the fixtures are good, if he flops then I will play Siggy all the time.

Many seem to predicting a 3 at the back, making Wisdom nailed imo. Those that assume Gamboa joins tend to be playing him in midfield rather than defence. Probably not a reliable source of info, but these guys know their club and players, more than many on here I'm guessing.

Lukaku will be favoured to start with as Roberto obviously rates him. But he finished last season looking a bit found out. While Naismith just puts away anything that comes his way. Naismith will be Everton's top scorer.
